Ubique's Weekly
A Mutual Endeavors Publication
Issue #60 ~ 23 November 2004
The Blurb The Ass and His Masters An Ass, belonging to an herb-seller who gave him too little food and too much work made a petition to Jupiter to be released from his present service and provided with another master. Jupiter, after warning him that he would repent his request, caused him to be sold to a tile maker. Shortly afterwards, finding that he had heavier loads to carry and harder work in the brick-field, he petitioned for another change of master. Jupiter, telling him that it would be the last time that he could grant his request, ordained that he be sold to a tanner. The Ass found that he had fallen into worse hands, and noting his master's occupation, said, groaning: "It would have been better for me to have been either starved by the one, or to have been overworked by the other of my former masters, than to have been bought by my present owner, who will even after I am dead tan my hide, and make me useful to him."
Hello again my loyal subscribers. Another happy Tuesday afternoon/evening to one and all! I hope that this week's edition of Ubique's Weekly finds you all in good spirits. Mine have been on a steady rise since my expected return. Last week's issue was incredibly long, and I for one found it exhilarating. The only draw-back was that it took me SIX hours to compile everything into a format we all could enjoy and appreciate. Though after completeing what I had, I realized only afterwards that I had missed several important tidbits of news. With some help, this week I intend on fixing that problem and filling in the rest of the empty slots with even more news!
Other things have been brought to my attention since then. Such as the fact that perhaps this is far too much work for one lowly editor to handle on her own. Following the advice of a fellow role-player, a comrade in arms if you will, I have come to a conclusion. I DO need help! So I thought for some time on an answer to help solve these problems. I poured over past issues and pondered at great length -- with the help of some time well spent discussing matters with my fellow players. One thing jumped out at me and shook me around a few times until I realized that the answer has been in front of me all along. In past issues there has always been mention of a corporation named Ink Wire Associates. And I realized, that long ago, I had intended on creating just such an organization. What is Ink Wire Associates? Well ... it's simple really. The IWA is a group that has yet to be formed. In retrospect, I have decided that now IWA has a purpose. A structure to be built. And what will the IWA be? Well ... simply stated, they will be the editorial staff of Ubique's Weekly. In the future. I do not intend on doing this alone any longer.
More on this at another time, though. I'm sure all of you are just itching to read the news! So let's get on with it! But keep in mind not to skip over anything. I will be implementing more and more hints about the creation and existence of the Ink Wire Associates in other parts of this particular publication. So keep your eyes peeled. Read on!
Storyline Spotlight The Eagle and the Arrow An Eagle was soaring through the air when suddenly it heard the whizz of an Arrow, and felt itself wounded to death. Slowly it fluttered down to the earth, with its life-blood pouring out of it. Looking down upon the Arrow with which it had been pierced, it found that the shaft of the Arrow had been feathered with one of its own plumes. "Alas!" it cried, as it died.
Amongst my many editorial mistakes, I stumbled upon past updates that I had inadvertantly stored in an alternate folder so that I would not forget them. Of course, I did forget them. Because even I can be stupid after six hours of editing. Even I can be stupid period. But that is besides the point. Once I found my old filing cabinet and restored it to my current version of AOL, I had forgotten that I had set up that safeguard. I was far too excited about the publication of the next issue that certain details slipped my mind. So now I am presenting you with the news that was missed out on, and so much more.
The Giant Hunt
This comes from October 18, 2004. And I only regret that I was incapable of informing all of you much, much earlier. The boss of the Giant Gang, Lashra Ulkiss, paid a visit to the Silver Moon Inn one evening. There was no violence, but as it happened Johan was behind the bar at that time. Words were exchanged. Suggestive words. Intimidating words. But not threatening. The threats were all in the nuances. Bottom line -- Lashra still wants Sulrin for the death of his son Flense, and Johan wants the Giants to pay for the trouble they've caused for his clientelle.
Last Tuesday night (back before October 18), a telepathic countdown began, courtesy of Master Ynik in his place in the Giant's prison. It is set for this Friday -- apparently the Giants are planning on taking a large supply of meat for the winter from Rhydin, and it doesn't look like they're thinking of the slaughterhouse district. As for Ynik, he insists that the Wednesday night is the true point of no return, when the Giant Gang will be vulnerable to being struck in their own lair. Various parties are preparing for the coming storm...
((Multi-mun is issuing an open invitation to anyone who wants to crash the Giants party. It's going to be a PR, so IM SN The Multifarious for a link. I'll try to set my IMCatcher to let through as many such requests as possible. Wednesday Night, starting around Midnight EST.))
Again ... this is old news. I regret being incapable of informing all of our readers. Even more so than my inability to participate due to real life issues and concerns. I can only but apologize and hope that things went off without a hitch regardless. And according to the next update, it appears as if everything did go well.
The Army Falls
This news comes to us from October 21, 2004. Wednesday night, a team of individuals associated with the Silver Moon Inn went into the Giant territory up north and essentially wiped them out. These included Twelve (The Multifarious), Ari (ArianaMacGyldren), Johan (Johan the Hunter), Toho (XPriestTohoX), Gem (Gemethyst), Sulrin (Sulrin), and Tetsu (Tetsuken Seikku). The battle was fierce but decisive.
The opening ambush was upon the Fire Giant Wizard and some flunkies, but while the SMI Commando achieved some surprise, the alarm was still raised. In the ensuing general melee, the boss Lashra was killed by Sulrin himself, ending the vendetta against him once and for all.
The Feastmaker, Cookie, was killed when Toho apparently summoned Odin (!) to assist. By the time Odin was done with him, Cookie looked like a freight train had driven *through* him.
It looked like the Giant Gang had been completely exterminated, when the Fog Giant of Wrath emerged. Taking on the aspect of a full sized dragon, Johan took him on and almost got hunks of himself ripped out when Tetsu summoned a meteor. Assisted by Johan's dragonfire, the meteor essentially turned the Giant of Wrath into a fine mist.
The SMI bunch headed home with a rescued Master Ynik in tow, badly injured. In fact, almost everyone was injured in this conflict, but there were no losses on the SMI side. Twelve was hurt too -- well, he was essentially squashed flat -- but his recovery was measured in minutes. Ynik, suffering from some long term injuries, might be a while recovering. At the time of this writing, there is no report on the lasting injuries of the rest of the team.
In other news, the Giant bodies -- and pieces thereof -- were not found in the vicinity of the crater by subsequent explorations. All that was found were thousands of footprints, like those of giant ants...
Could it be that the Invasion is spreading? What next lies in store for Rhy'Din? Only time will tell.
This concludes all the news we have received thusfar on the previous threat of the Giant Invasion. All it takes is a little determination and perseverance. Those noble souls who threw themselves into the maws of danger are deserving of a medal or two. Don't you think?
This Just In The Four Oxen and the Lion A Lion used to prowl about a field in which Four Oxen used to dwell. Many a time he tried to attack them; but whenever he came near they turned their tails to one another, so that whichever way he approached them he was met by the horns of one of them. At last, however, they fell a quarrelling among themselves, and each went off to pasture alone in a separate corner of the field. Then the Lion attacked them one by one and soon made an end of all four.
Old news and new news. Once again I bring it to all of you. Hopefully this time around I have everything in complete order and no more loose ends to tie up. I should have figured that three issues wasn't enough last week. Despite the fact that it was enormous! Here are this week's storyline collaborations, as well as a good handful from the previous weeks that I missed out on. Again I am going to include the date in which I received the news so that you, the reader, can keep everything in order. With that in mind, let's move on to our...
Headlines
Fall Into Adventure: The Kodiak Falls Office of Blackjack Adventures is open for business. Contact Administrative Director of Operations Irina Braeden to schedule an adventure package with Chasz Havery, BJA's resident Mudbogger (See Classifieds for more details).
The Blackjack Family would like to extend our gratitude to those who made our inaugural season such a success. As a token of our gratitude, summer clients will receive discounts on select fall packages. It's just our way of thanking you for your loyalty.
Full Moon Madness: (Recent -- repeated from last week). Just when things were starting to settle down and criminal activities were receeding ... Local Rhy'Din PD authorities have recently revealed to the media a series of unexplanable death occurrences that have taken place over the course of the past month. Animal attacks are on a rise since the middle of October. Several citizens have been found dead, torn to shreds, and abandoned in parks and alleyways across the city. Citizens are advised to lock their doors at night. Most particularly on the night when the moons are most full. Some "witnesses" have claimed that canine activity is at its highest during these times. Authorities can only advise citizens to be prepared when wandering the streets at night. The local pound is also advising that any pet dogs be kept in at doors to avoid persecution by enraged citizens. Have your animals checked for any diseases, most especially the possibility of rabies.
Ink Wire Associates: Word has it that a new organization is finally coming into focus concerning the management structure of Ubique's Weekly. The Editor in Chief, myself (Ehzoterik), has come to the conclusion that the newsletter is becoming far too much to handle on her own. Therefore, I have decided to finally form the offbranch management system known only before as a shadow of the dream: Ink Wire Associates. In the future, I plan to share the responsibilities of newsletter creation with a small number of co-editors. These co-editors will be responsible for handling certain sections of the newsletter on my behalf, and then sending it all to me to be compiled more quickly into the finished product as you see here. Several positions are available:
Storyline Spotlight Editor (SSE) -- This person will be in charge of presenting a weekly write-up on the most intense storyline information that we receive from our subscribers. He or she will responsible for presenting the information in the format I already have established for Ubique's Weekly, as well as adding his or her own personal flair to the section. Such as editorial voice and commentary. This person will then be responsible for e-mailing the finished copy to me (Editor in Chief) for implementation into the newest issue of the publication.
Headline Editor (HE) -- This person will be in charge of presenting a weekly write-up of the smaller and more vague group storyline projects that are provided by our subscribers. He or she will be responsible for presenting the information in the format I have already established for Ubique's Weekly (listed alphabetically for an easier read), as well as adding in his or her own personal flair to the section. Review past entries for some ideas. Personal editorial voice and commentary are also encouraged. This person will then be responsible for e-mailing me the finished to copy for implementation into the newest issue of the publication.
Character News Editor (CNE) -- This person will be in charge of presenting a weekly write-up of the immense section of Individual Character updates that are provided by our subscribers. He or she will be responsible for presenting the information in the format I have already established for Ubique's Weekly (listed alphabetically for an easier read), as well as adding his or her own personal flair to the section. I will provide a complete template of character names and screen names for the individual who accepts this position. Personal editorial voice and commentary are also encouraged. This person will then be responsible for e-mailing the finished copy to me for implementation into the newest issue of the publication.
Advertising Editor (AE) -- This person will be in charge of presenting a weekly write-up of the Classifieds section of the newsletter. He or she will be responsible for keeping the Classifieds up-to-date and presenting me with the latest draft of the information in the format I have already established for Ubique's Weekly (listed alphabetically for an easier read) as well as adding his or her own personal flair to the section. I do not always remember to double check the links to make certain they are still in working order, so someone taking on this task would be helpfully beneficial. Personal editorial voice and commentary are also encouraged. This person will then be responsible for e-mailing me the most recent copy of this section for implementation into the newest issue of the publication.
Webpage Archive Editor (WAE) -- This person will be in charge of reformatting each issue of Ubique's Weekly into an HTML format that can be uploaded to the Ubique's Weekly Headquarters homepage. The only requirements are a basic knowledge of HTML formatting, as even I am not an expert. Please see the website for a basic idea of what I am looking for: http://www.geocities.com/ehzoterik/UW.html Even the least educated of individuals can find it fairly simple to figure out how to code in HTML. One of my ex-boyfriends taught me how to figure it out on my own by right-clicking over the page that you are viewing and selecting the option "view source." This will pop up a notepad file that shows you all the coding used to create the website.
Currently I have close to forty issues of Ubique's Weekly that need backdated and archived to the homepage. The person who takes on this responsibility is also encouraged to share with me ideas on how to make the webpage look more appealing. Perhaps even a better way to present the archive list. As I am sure that it will become quite enormous in the months to come.
At this point in time I have only received one application. There is no preset application to speak of, so actually I am looking for a resume from all interested individuals. Simply review the available positions and e-mail me at
This e-mail address is being protected from spam bots, you need JavaScript enabled to view it
to express your interest. All applications are currently under review and will be for at least the next month. As it will take a great deal of time to get everything in order. All applications will be looked over and considered, and each applicant will receive a response. I will keep all of you updated on this as it progresses along.
Lost and Found: A few months ago, it came to my attention that a valuable role-player had gone missing in action. After trying to send out four issues of Ubique's Weekly, and receiving the constant message of "this is not a known member," I could only reach one conclusion. He had simply disappeared off the face of the role-playing world! In my worry, I posted this blotter on my personal livejournal in hopes that he would find it and send me some form of word. I do not believe that my blotter was noticed, but that is besides the point. On November 11th of this year, I received a surprise instant message. One in which I was greatly relieved and overjoyed to have received. The entire conversation has been archived here should anyone be interested in reading up on current events. However, I would like to add in this personal tidbit taken from an e-mail I received shortly thereafter:
"Thanks for talking with me today. You don't know how much good that did me. I've always felt that I wouldn't be missed, not really. But you went and put a freaking bulletin in ME for me... You've touched me deeper than you could know. I hope to talk to you soon. Be good, and continue to keep the dream alive. For all of us Players." -- Words from the player of XZekeil DrakeX.
In response I would like to say that you are welcome, Zekester. Heh heh heh. It has always been my dream that no matter what happens, no matter the consequences of our actions, that somehow we would always remember to strive to make role-playing work. This takes communication, and even I am a bit behind on communicating from time to time. But we all try our very best, and that in the end is what matters. I hope you come back to us soon, Zekester. Keep fighting. We'll still be here. Waiting for you.
Message Board Challenge: Direct from our fellow collaborators at the Multiverse Minutes, I give you this recent news from November 21, 2004. "The Games Team has been challenged by the powers that be to reach 22,500 total message board posts for the month of November. This is not posting just for the sake of posting, but to further discussion among members. This concerns all message boards in the Game Area." As of November 12th, there were over 8,500 posts in the Games Area boards. The total for November thusfar is 11,582! More than halfway to their goal! I am going to encourage each and every one of you loyal readers to pay a visit to the RDI Message Boards in an effort to help further the cause. It's a lot of reading to filter through, but I'm sure if you take the time you'll find a discussion worthy of joining. Or even ... create your own! Have fun!
Also concerning the message boards is this important note: "Mike Hruseck our ACI, has advised us that the Games Message Boards are going to become HTML boards in the near future. If you want an example of what AOL looks like in HTML, check here on the Music Boards.
If you have any questions about the new message boards, please visit Keyword: Games Community Leaders and leave a message in the Message Board Q&A board, (aol://5863:126/mB:548222) or feel free to e-mail MikeH3000."
On The Crime Beat: Anyone with information on various cases, including the murders of Aileen Hodgeson, Dorothy Peterson, Becky Johnson, Howard Conway, Patricia Miller, Stella Donaldson, and Paul and Mary Hanson is strongly urged to contact Deputy Marshall Wynter.
Rhydin Baywatch?: Rhydin Shore Patrol is still investigating a massacre at what appears to have been a luau. Details on the shooting spree are being withheld by authorities. A total of twenty-six people were shot to death with a variety of weapons. Until further notice, a square mile of Rhydin's coast is closed to the public.
Rhy'Din Yellow Pages: (As of November 15, 2004 -- repeated from last week). Through discussion amongst players about the terrible confusion that transpires concerning precisely what it is that each individual character in Rhy'Din does to pay the bills, a great idea has been born. I felt it would be beneficial to not only display this idea as a UW Advertisement, but also as a Headline. The details as to why this idea came into focus can be reviewd on The Circle (the specific post has been provided via hyperlink). In brief, the question arises, "Who can my character turn to when a certain job needs done?" Many of us have taken great care and have spent many hours devising backgrounds and occupations for our characters. With this in mind, it would only seem logical (and also cordial) to conclude that if your character needed a specific something done that he or she would turn to another player's character who can do just that. To not would be foolish and at times possibly even bigoted.
Therefore, Mutual Endeavors member and fellow storyline collaborator DarkAngelGenesis has taken it upon herself to collect as much information as humanly possible from all of you players in an effort to create Rhy'Din's very own Yellow Pages. Take a moment of your time one of these days and think about what it is your characters do for a living. What are their occupations? How do they make their money? Would other characters come to them in order to make use of their services? An example listing would be:
Rei: Openly - student at Northedge Academy, studies drama, plays football, occasionally works at the Rambling Rose Tavern. Covertly - pickpocket, con artist, and sneak thief.
Use your imaginations and help us to help you by providing all the details that you feel are necessary. In a future issue of Ubique's Weekly, I will be highlighting as much as I can. Perhaps we can even add this into a section of the Mutual Endeavors website. Please send all information to
This e-mail address is being protected from spam bots, you need JavaScript enabled to view it
for these purposes. More information on this as it comes in.
Rogues of Rhy'Din: Months ago it was brought to my attention that a new type of storyline is being built. In some respects it could be considered a guild, but no. While it is centered around a select choice few of character candidates, it is not necessarily guild revival in roleplaying. A great number of characters fall under the category of rogue, and it is plausible to conclude that there would indeed be a Thieves' Guild in the area. Though do not confuse it with the old version of guilds that use to overpopulate the RP scene. This is in fact a group storyline, a collaboration in the works. For more information, please visit the website at: http://www.thievesden.ashadowofme.com/ Their numbers are slowly growing, at least so far as identified rogues are concerned. Perhaps your character can find a place to fit in amongst the underground movement as well!
Silver Moon News: On October 26, 2004, I received an e-mail from a member of the Silver Moon Inn staff explaining that it is about time that things continue to run as smoothly as possible. The short and sweet of it is that the Staff page has been updated (SMI Staff). The Staff page includes days and times that an RO is expected to be running the room to keep everything in order. "You will also note, on the staff page, that there is a section marked OOC Room Owners. Room Owner Bot is not an IC presence, but is a legit SMI presence." In addition, "Live Journal Community information has been added so that all RO's have an opportunity to voice their views in the discussion going on there. The community is for all SMI patrons, not just the RO's." If there are any player questions and concerns about the SMI at all, please feel free to e-mail Johan the Hunter to express these. Anything concerning the SMI Official Webpage should be brought to the attention of PrlUnicorn. Please do not take up any other issues with her. That is the job of Management -- Johan the Hunter.
Winter Wonderland: In the tradition of the Spook Spectacular Haunted Hayride events at Dr. Maranya Valkonan's ranch, the good Doctor and her gardener Jack Bishop are planning a Winter Wonderland event for the month of December, the proceeds going to benefit programs at Riverview Clinic. For more information about the Winter Wonderland Spectacular, please contact Dr. Valkonan by phone, mail, or visiting the ranch in person. Also keep an eye out for various fliers that are starting to be posted city-wide.
In Other News... The Boy and the Filberts A Boy put his hand into a pitcher full of filberts. He grasped as many as he could possibly hold, but when he tried to pull out his hand, he was prevented from doing so by the neck of the pitcher. Unwilling to lose his filberts, and yet unable to withdraw his hand, he burst into tears and bitterly lamented his disappointment. A bystander said to him, "Be satisfied with half the quantity, and you will readily draw out your hand."
With the help of a fellow comrade in arms, (that is, roleplayer) I was able to compile this week's individual Character Updates more quickly. A little help goes a long way! So my thanks go out to this week's temporary Character Update Editor, ME member Ellyn Vt for a job well done. Sometimes it pays to admit when one thing is just too much for you to handle alone, and I'm glad I asked. Speaking of asking, if you haven't noticed, there is an article in the Headlines concerning just such a thing. So before you move on, go back and read again. And then ... take your time to see what's in store this week for our characters!
Ahriman (TheAngraMaiynu): (10/18/2004) There is a strong possibility that this force might be behind a group of rather reclusive blue haired vampires dressed in gray. One of these creatures tried to kidnap a being known as Casio (SR17eM9), but fortunately was thwarted by Ariana. She had with her an item of extreme value that she was using to blackmail Casio into doing what she wanted. Fortunately that item was recovered and returned to its rightful owner.
(Recently) There have been odd incidents of people being seen from the past, and even the future. Is this the one responsable? All signs point to yes.
Alexander Camael Woods (Terra Nephilim): Reports have come in of the elder twin spending time with a half-dragon, of all things, as well as studying tomes involving darker Earth Magick. One wonders if his mother knows about this?
Alexander Camael Woods (Emerald Mirror): No news from him lately... He's laying low--wonder why?
Anna (AriannaRavenwood): There is no word on where the blue sister is currently.
Ariana (ArianaMacGyldren, SMI Ariana): The green sister, along with her husband Galen (Galen MacGyldren) and daughter Elaine (Elaine Aqua), still resides at her husband and brother in law's clan lands. Ariana actually ventured out in the public eye recently to the Silver Moon Inn. She had a conversation there with a few people, including her dear friend Faye (Faye Random). After that appearance, Ariana has pretty much stayed out of the public eye, save to work at her Bakery as usual.
Azazel (Erubescite): (10/18/2004) Is there a tissue shortage threatening Rhydin? Pregnant dragons should not watch Love Story. Or Beaches. Or A.I. Or Old Yeller. Or... anything?
(Recently) Now comfortably reverted to male form, Az is on his nest in the lower plane of Dudael, guarding his two precious eggs that were laid a couple of weeks ago. Photos available on request from relatives such as Mithril. To his intense joy and stupefaction, his eldest son Salil'azza, lost centuries ago in a murderous holocaust, has returned to him alive and well. His return was meant as an assault by the despicable Mr. Angry (TheAngraMainyu), but the joke's on the enemy; the family is stronger again by one and a great boost in morale for the Peacock Angel.
Bridie Dillon (Bridget Dillon): While furthering her studies in forensic science, Ms. Dillon has reopened Wolf Investigations on the outskirts of Rhydin City near the woodlands. Word is she has a large timber wolf as a mascot.
Bridie's often found in the company of Nate DeLeon (In His Sights). The pair has been known to exchange risque quips at rapid fire speed.
Calypso (Lady Proudfoot): She is still going through her many suitors to find the "one".
Carmine (TaciturnMerc): (10/18/2004) Carmine is seriously considering taking some parenting classes for rasing his son has turned out to be more of a challenge than even the seasoned mercenary was prepared for. To complicate matters Dris keeps insisting that he is being too fierce with the boy, but the land they live in is highly dangerous. He does not want to keep his child a prisoner in a gilded cage, but at the same token he does not want his already rather wild son to run amok as he sees fit either. Balance is something Carmine is hunting for in this matter. Will he ever find it? The world may never know.
(Recently) Carmine has had quite the revelation. Feeling the pressures of trying to raise a wild, and out of control son that he had little time to prepare for has taken quite the toll on the mercenary. He finally left his son behind during one of his temper fits to get some much needed thinking time. While out wandering about he met up with a mysterious woman that reawakened his memories of his son's conception and reminded him of a great deal of important things. Now armed with answers about who and what his son is, he has returned home to face responsibilities. He also apologized to both Dris and his child for running out like that and for not understanding.
Carolyn Valkonan (DreamsInBurgundy): The ever-precocious mageling has been out and about this week, showing her face in the Red Dragon Inn Keep. She's spent some time with her aunt 'Anya (Maranya Valkonan), and made a few new friends, including a bard named Aya (Destiny of Music). Surprisingly, the rest of the time she's been staying out of trouble, between her babysitting job and getting a brand new tattoo...
Carvenhorn (Horned Hunter): (10/18/2004) The minotaur bounty hunter has left his maze for some reason not related to his work. He was well packed, though, so it looks like a long one.
Chase LeMonde (Chase LeMonde): (10/18/2004) If anyone heard church bells on Thursday the 14th, let it be known that they announced the marriage of Rhydin's very own cajun lawman to Adrienne LaCroix in a quiet, private ceremony witnessed by brother Alex (Alex LeMonde) and friend Kate (MissKate). Don't expect to see either face around for a while, as they'll be tucked away on a nice tropical island somewhere enjoying their honeymoon in the sun...at least, as much in the sun as a vampire and his wife can stand.
Cheriour (HeIIishHunter): (10/18/2004) This very very busy cherub murdered three cell phones this week. One with a hammer, one in a chipper/shredder, and one thrown out the car window. Bloody things are like gremlins, someone keeps making more.
Colleen MacLeod (PrlUnicorn, SMI Colleen): Collie was seen delivering a pan of sugarless treats and pictures to Joker (Richard D Harker, SMI Joker) while he was on duty. There was talk of a wedding present for her favorite daughter and a trip to England for Rhi (Rhiannon D Brock) to meet Joker's mother. One must wonder just how serious that relationship is.
Deputy Marshall Wynter (Rachael Wynter): The scarred law woman in black continues to work on wrapping up certain investigations (see Headlines). Rachael received information about a recent series of ritualistic murders from an anonymous informant and is currently investigating this lead. She is also working closely with Doctor Nigel Newborn from RCSI on this case. Dechirant and Fayalki (Dechirant, Fayalki): Dey and Fayalki are celebrating their son, Yahuchi's (Little Wolf), first birthday on the 25th. They've been glad to see the return of some friends from the past, and make new friends. Of late, the inn has been a fine place to be most nights. Diana Lasher (Fragile Fury): Still making preparations for holiday leave with her squadron, Diana is looking forward to spending time with her SO, Orion Kyle. She is also planning to spend time tweaking the engine of a pet project of hers, a Vincent Black Knight motorcycle.
Doctor Maranya Tatiana Valkonan (Maranya Valkonan): She's tending to her patients as usual, including one of the tenders at the Silver Moon Inn. The good Doctor continues to spend time volunteering her medical services at a local free clinic. Maranya is very pleased with the landscaping on her ranch and the upcoming plans for the Winter Wonderland events there. She also made a few visits to the Red Dragon's Keep recently to relax. One visit in particular was rumored to have her dancing with happiness. However, the combined strain of keeping up with her busy schedule overall, along with investigating a series of mysterious deaths among some of her young cancer patients and working on changing her employment for the better continues to take its toll on the good Doctor.
Drake Valkonan (Drake Valkonan): The Master Scientist actually managed to show his face in public this week, spending some long-overdue time with his sister (Maranya Valkonan). He also had yet another daughter of his in tow (Valanthe Airloki).
Dris (BardGaIIant): Busy as ever! Recently Dris had the surprise of an apology from Carmine concerning how crazy raising a wild-card thirteen-year-old can be. Though he was given no explanation on the details, he is pleased with the fact that the mercenary has had a change of heart. So to speak. He is trying everything in his power to relieve Carmine of some of the work load when it comes to responsibility with the boy, and has expressed his desire to help out despite the uncomfortableness. Hopefully these two can work together better on having a happy family enviroment.
Ehzoterik VonArcanum Tempestas (Ehzoterik): There are still notes hanging on the inside of closets Rhy'Din-wide. Found on the back wall of every closet is a simple note underneath the other ones that now reads, "Members Only." Now ... what could that mean?
Elaine (Elaine Aqua): No solo exploring jaunts for Elaine at all. She's been busy with her schoolwork and trying not to obviously get into fights with the kids at school who pick on her and her friend Sal (Peculiar Silence). The eleven year old misses Beauty but is consoled by taking care of Empress Emerald of Grayfur's kittens, though she's still grumpy that she's not allowed to name the kittens. Elaine really misses her brother Banshee (Banshee Aqua) and really truly doesn't believe he's truly gone.
Emmy (EmpressGrayfur): The Empress Emerald of Grayfur is still very, very busy taking care of her kittens. They are now six weeks old and rampant as ever. They are still expressing interest in exploring or bonding, but Mother keeps reminding them they aren't ready to choose a human just yet. Perhaps in another couple of months.
Faye: She Who Tends the Dead (Faye Random): Autumn continues to proceed as it always has, and Faye has not been seen in quite some time. However, there are whispers in the air that her kin are active once more. Something about tying up loose ends before Winter.
Irina Braeden (Irina Braeden): In this week's installment, there's been no news of note or actual sign of this native Rhydin resident around anywhere. Stay tuned.
Jack Bishop (Jackrabbit Blue): Work, work, work. Yes. More work. His plans for the week consist of going back home dateless to face the family. Thanksgiving is only two days away afterall! Once he returns, he'll still be busy. Putting up Christmas decorations! Not to mention deisigning the entire ranch into a Winter Wonderland! Poor gardener almost never gets a break in his chores. C'est la vie.
Jade (Irreverent Jade): The newly wed Earth Master is spending a lot of time at home. A recent missive has put her in a rather pensive mood, although she has not yet put pen to paper to respond to said letter. The thoughts simply refuse to come. Perhaps with her elder son's actions she might actually make a return? Time will tell...
Jesiah Daen (Jesiah Daen): Among the many strange disapearances in Rhy'Din within the past six months (and many are thankful that they Mayor of Rhy'Din city was found scant days after his vanishing passed out in a pile of laundry in his mansion basement, though some question the presence of the prostitute), one Jesiah Daen has turned up missing...Wait...Been found missing...No...Er...Has gone missing. Yes! Jesiah Daen has gone missing. Some attribute this to the whimisical nature of the Nexus, while others are much more suspicious.
Jim Smith (TheSpiritRemains, Zetarris): (10/18/2004) After being 'outed' he seems to have given up on disguises. He visited the RDI Keep to talk to a small group of young people, and is now involved in something hush-hush at Rei's request, and preparing to meet with Salvador for who knows what purpose. (Recently) In between helping Mithril and Terry send lost time weirdos back to where they belong, he is spreading rumors that he may open a giraffe farm in Rhydin. Maybe someone has been hanging around Yoshi too much.
Johan (Johan the Hunter): (10/18/2004) The notorious and mysterious owner of the Silver Moon Inn has taken some time away from his paperwork to emerge out into the world for a breather. The most noteworthy of his forays had him facing down a trio of giants intent on taking Sulrin in retribution for the giant he had slain weeks back. Johan would have none of it, and after some verbal fencing the giants left without incident. Everyone was much relieved, but Johan appealed to Rhiannon (Rhiannon D Brock) to bring him back a package awaiting him the next time she visited her family. He didn't name what the package was, but it seemed important that he posess it as soon as possible. He seems determined not to allow any harm to befall his employees and patrons from these giants, but he has seemed awfully exhausted as of late.
Joker (SMI Joker, Richard D Harker): The flirtatious bartender for the Silver Moon Inn worked his normal shift this week. Joker is still worried about his younger brother Nige (Peter N Harker). The elder Harker brother is currently undergoing anger management counseling along with his usual medical treatments from the Valkyrie (Maranya Valkonan). The flirtatious bartender will be turning a year older on the 22nd of November, but that doesn't seem to slow him down in the sparring ring. So far, Rhi (Rhiannon D Brock) has beaten him twice, but he and Rhi both beat one of their main annoyances in the sparring ring on Sunday night. Joker plans to go away with Rhi for a few days to continue to celebrate his birthday, this time out of the public eye. Jules (Jules Braeden): Between college, her new boyfriend, and a new business she has started up, she has not been seen much. She is also busily working helping her sister out with some legal difficulties. Evidence has been collected and sent on to the proper channels that will help her sister out.
Kakabel (Celestial Sorrow): Nothing particularly new to report on the star angel. His time is mostly still focussed on training and educating his son. Though he is still wondering when Gem will tell him what's been bothering her so much. Perhaps it's time for an intervention on his part.
Kulkem (Kulkem): (10/18/2004) Kulkem was in the Silver Moon last week with the intention of looking in on Ariana. He didn't find her, but he did hear some disquieting rumors about her condition. More recently, he was spotted in the Red Dragon Inn's Keep by an astute reporter, spending time with Dr. Valkonan and various family members of hers...
Lyssa (Lyssa Bjornson): Ariana's shy dollmaking daughter continues to make dolls based on dreams she's been having for a still undetermined reason.
Matakhat Cain (Matakhat Cain): Cat's got a cause she's just passionate enough about to get her into trouble. The Science Dept. at the University of Central Rhydin, where she attends classes, has been using small animals for experimentation and dissection purposes. Cat and a few of her loyal followers strongly object when alternate options are available such as the use of computers and simulators. After a series of protests produced no signs of the Science Dept. stopping the use of defenseless animals, she and her band of crusaders broke into the lab at night and rescued 50 or so mice and rabbits and relocated them to a farm. She'd gone Goth to hopefully throw off anyone at the college who might suspect her involvement, but after the successful rescue, she's back as her normal blonde self except for one long stripe of black on her left side.
Melly (Melanie Wyndham): Will the shy relief baker at Ariana's Divine Delights Bakery tend bar at the Silver Moon Inn again? The world may never know.
Mer Harriss (Heavy Metal Mer): Last week at her night job, the Virtual Adept spent some time throwing out a trio of unruly thugs who'd decided that the Rambling Rose Tavern was their turf to boss folks around in. Mer had no problems proving them wrong. Last night, visiting her Not-Daughter (Angelin Vivalis), she was overheard asking Matakhat Cain how she liked being an older sister. Is there the patter of little feet in said Adept's future? Only she knows for sure...and she ain't talking.
Micarryl (Still More Drow): (10/18/2004) Klezn x'khat sreenath wun l' Phish Maelthra El'inssrigg Ser natha stath tangin draeval p'los. Salvador zhahus della natha szeous lu' ol jivviim ukta fridj saph riluss zhahus della ol orn'la. (Recently) Orthae cahlinden! Rei tha Mica dal l' ulin. Gajak, uk belbaus Mica natha tsoss wun l' Rambling Rose Tavern. Rei talinthe uk zhah zav. Uk orn inbau ukt.
Mithril/Gadreel/Lusus (ASaintOfSinners): (10/18/2004) Mithril has been kept quite busy this week with his self appointed tasks and secret projects. There is likely plenty to report, but Mithril is ever one to keep his tracks covered when he does not wish one to fully know what he is up to. (Recently) He is busy still with assorted projects. One of these involves the care and feeding of a succubus, and the training of said creature to live in a different way. Will he succeed with this task? Stay tuned.
Mozart (Amadaeus Felidae): He is still being a very good kitty.
Orion Ksyhsravor (Orion Ksyhsravor): The Jedi...may be a Daddy? Be afraid...
Parhi Grimjaws (The Multifarious): (10/18/2004) She hasn't been around much, but the number of Ogres haunting dark alleys has dropped significantly...
Pleione (Stellar Balinese): Thankfully Rei has noticed the Queen's displeasure and has talked to her about getting an amulet made specifically for her. Hopefully he doesn't make her wait too long and actually follows through. Or else there will be hell to pay. While the tuna was nice, she still expects him to do his part and let her be more free!
Rachael MacLeod (RachaeI MacLeod): Rachael has been getting out a bit more of late. She was seen with Sulrin in the Red Dragon in the wee hours of Saturday last.
Ramiel (Ember Shade): Recently, he's met a few more fallen bretheren--and a sister who doesn't appear to be fallen at all. His memory losses have not seemed to be lessening any. He's very confused, really.
Rei (AmethystStarfall): (10/18/2004) Life has been quiet this week for the winged teen with one major exception. He finally shared with Sal the secrets he had collected about Sal's origins in spite of the consequences he had been warned about. Fortunately for everyone, his friend Mica was there to help calm Sal down when he was burdened with some sudden and rather remarkable truths. While still recovering from the aftermath of bestowing such revelations, he was paid a visit from Sal's mother and given a new mission. What mission could this be? Stay tuned.
(Recently) He is still as busy as ever, but is trying to take some time out to be social. He recently met a cousin of his from the distant past, and when he learned that this cousin was going to be murdered, he was most upset. It seems that someone heeded his words, for the cousin is once more safe and sound and hiding somewhere, and not on his mother's property. Oddly he deemed that location as "unsafe."
In other news he found out about Pleione's discontent and promised to do something about this. He apologized to her through tuna. He also ran into a version of Mica from the future who thought it would be funny to kiss him in front of people, in particular a sharky like woman that will never let him live this down. To get Mica back for something he will do in the future, he decided to kiss him also in public and also in front of people! Ah, the joys of paradox.
Rhiannon D. Brock (Rhiannon D Brock): Rhi has returned to the Duel of Swords with a vengeance. Her current record is 5-1-0, one more win will put her at Master at Arms.
Salvador (Peculiar Silence): Life just keeps getting stranger and stranger. Recently Sal ventured out with his father (of all people!) to pay a visit to the Red Dragon Inn Keep. There he introduced Carmine to the few friends and acquaintances that were assembled. Much to his dismay, however, his father was even more taciturn than ever. And when he left decided to ask Dr. Valkonan (Maranya Valkonan) to babysit him! Of all the things to set off his temper! Furious, he backed into a corner in an attempt to cool off after his father left. Unfortunately, the rest of the gathered company just wouldn't leave him be. He accidentally verbally unloaded on a girl named Aya (Destiny of Music), who more than likely still believes that he hates her guts. Thankfully Dr. Valkonan showed him a trick of how to keep his erratic powers from overloading his system. Keeping that in mind, he dared to follow the voices again for another visit to the Keep on another night.
That night he managed to find Aya and Dr. Valkonan in discussion with Carolyn about the facts of being different. While he would have liked to stay to apologize for his wrongly aimed anger at Aya, as well as join in friendly conversation and presence, his clairsentience picked up on something happening elsewhere. Without an explanation, he rushed hurriedly out of the Keep to follow the patterns he could. All roads pointed him to a nondescript tavern of not so much importance. However, what happened there was very important. And he has yet to explain to anyone the details of what precisely that was. Will he? Only time will tell.
Aside from all of that, he was granted an apology from his father concerning how he is being treated unfairly at home. Though he was forced to wonder what pod person swept Carmine away and replaced him with a more blindly understanding one. Is there something he is not being told? Another secret? How he hates all these secrets...
Stephen Valkonan (Stephen Valkonan): Between episodes of 'up to his earlobes' in work, he's spent some time amongst friends, celebrated his birthday (it was November 8th), and proposed to a very special lady. Most recently, he's earning grey hairs thanks to that very special lady, and her most current 'cause'. Help!
Terrance Tomar-Duncan (Terrance Tomar): (10/18/2004) Earlier in the week, Terrance was given initiative to do something about what he felt to be an injustice. An old elven friend, the young Wanwa'Hin (Wanwa Hin) was trapped in Hades as "punishment" for sacrificing herself in combat. In a team effort, Mithril and Terrance freed her from the Underworld. Coupled with the salvage of the ruined being Suphlatus (The Duke Of Dust) that was the deliverer of the trap that temporarily took his memory, it has been a good week for robbing evil. The only cost evident so far: stress.
(Recently) Terry's still burning the candle at both ends. He is as usual involved in assisting Mithril with private projects and teaching full-time, still working with career training for various refugees, taking fighting lessons from Parhi and taking care of various relatives. He is also still dealing with the occasional relatives or enemies that appear from other times and places, including his own future son. It has been an emotional week, to say the least.
Twelve (The Multifarious): (10/18/2004) Has been occupying himself in the region of the Giant Gang, scouting it seems. What he has been learning is anybody's guess.
Valanthe Air'loki (Valanthe Airloki): The young half-dragon sorceress has been learning a great deal about Rhydin between jaunts back to her home world. Despite being somewhat quiet, soft-spoken and generally reticient, she's managed to both spend time in the company of one Alexander Woods (Terra Nephilim) and even show her face in public with her father (Drake Valkonan) and aunt (Maranya Valkonan), meeting new people. Horrors!
Valleana (Va11eana): (10/182004) No news about the lovely daughter of the Mistress of Love and Ecstasy. In fact, Mallora seems a bit...odd, when asked about Valleana.
Ynik (The Multifarious): (10/18/2004) Last week, Ynik began to telepathically contact any receptive mind. He is broadcasting a countdown to the point of no return. That would be this Wednesday.
Yoshi (KitsuneNineTails): He is seriously thinking about helping Zetarris open a giraffe farm somewhere in Rhydin. It was an idea zany enough to appeal. Zeke (XZekeilDrakeX): Not much (if anything) has been heard from the quirky Guardian for some months now. It has gotten to the point, in certain points of Rhy'Din, that as much is spoken of him as is heard. The subject of Zekeil Drake Keelan has not reached taboo status, but seems to make some uncomfortable. No one can deny that his presence in the realm has touched many lives, for good or for ill. Upon his disappearance, rumors began circulating that he had gone away to take his own life. The ghostly appearences of a non-responsive Zeke in the dead of the night during Colleen's shift at the Silver Moon Inn have not helped the allegations. Even still, much is left unknown about the whereabouts and health of Zekeil Keelan. The odds seem bleak, but many remain hopeful. With the Rhy'Dinian Local News, this is M. T. Head wishing everyone a lovely holiday season.
Zohak (ABafflingEnigma): (10/18/2004) Zohak is still hunting liches, vampires, and demons oh my! Aside from that, he has not been doing much that is worthy of reporting
