Ubique's Weekly

A Mutual Endeavors Publication

Issue #10 ~ 20 October 2003

The Blurb

Good morning, readers! Wishing you a very happy Monday and an even happier week from all of us here at Mutual Endeavors. Admittedly, when this little organization was started, the management never expected that our numbers would grow in such numbers. Nor did we expect the Ubique's Weekly project to attract such an enthusiastic following. But are we complaining? Not at all!

This week's plan is to make our 10th issue as short and sweet as possible. Why... That's right! It's UW's 10th issue! Kind of hard to believe, isn't it? Thanks to dozens of weekly contributions from our readers and a handful of subscription requests, the ideals backing up this particular newsletter have not failed us yet. So thank you to all of you who have kept us in action with updates and information from all across the multiverse! Thank you for spreading the word to all those who might enjoy our publication. Thank you to those of you who have recently requested your very own subscriptions. We couldn't have moved into the double digits without you. Well... we might have, but the reading probably would've been very boring.

All right. Enough of the jabbering. Let's get this show on the road. There's a handful of headlines ready to be read this week, and a tasty assortment of individual character updates as well. Therefore, without further ado I give to you...

This Just In

This past week showed to us a flurry of storyline activity unlike any others we've seen before. Much to the surprise of the UW staff, most playtime hours took place during the week. Many of us were shocked to discover an unexpected lack of activity during the weekend hours when most of Rhydin is most active. Nevertheless, things did happen. And to prove it to you, here are our...

Headlines

A Hunter in Bull's Clothing: The Inn was visited Friday night by a minotaur, black furred and armed with a huge claymore. An old friend of many of the SMI regulars, Hunter has been working in his long absence. Firstly, he says he has something for Doctor Valkonan, something very costly. He declines to be more specific. He also says he has been hired to find the killer of a scholar, an expert in an esoteric field called Number Magic (not the same thing as numerology) who was slashed to death in a public library. Trivial really, except that this fellow was doing research in the field of concordants - people who come from different continua who appear to be 'doubles'. Essentially, a concordant is a kind of reflection, what someone might have been had their life been different. Often concordants are extremely similar, like identical twins separated at birth. Occasionally, however, a concordant is radically different or even opposite from it's 'siblings' in some significant way - evil where the rest are good, brave where others are cowardly. And it seems that when a someone kills one of their own concordants, they have an opportunity to steal some of their victims strength, skill, or spirit. All of this is throwing an ominous light on the double Parhi situation... (SN Horned Hunter's activities are being reported by SN The Multifarious.)

Creative Constructs: A stone golem (ConstructReality) has been spending more and more time hanging around the Silver Moon Inn. Most unusual is the fact that it seems to be less of a mindless construct, and more of sentient being. It identifies itself as "Galatea" and admits to being the property of a certain mage Cryptopakolips (TheMultifarious). The construct has been seen in the past few mornings with Ariana (ArianaMacGyldren), apparently learning . . sculpture?

Dreamworks Invasions: Lately there has been a flurry of activities erupting from the astral planes of the fae courts. Many of our researchers have been left baffled following the trails of certain entities, but still we have news to share. According to our sources, the most prominently witnessed entities of the fae realms are The Nightmare Keeper and The Daydream Weaver. Two titles that the opposite sides of the same coin refer to themselves as. Since the reunion of Gadreel and his thirds, most of the more popular names have vanished into thin air. Those who remember Welkyn (PolutedFirmament) will find that The Watcher of the Border is a little difficult to find these days. Rumors have it that he has been eradicated from existence and will never be seen again. However, Kymeera (TheDreamWarden) and Revari (KaleidoscopeWhim) have been popping up here, there, and everywhere lately. There have been many suggestions made between the two of them that something will be happening to Rhydin's favorite uncaring female, She Who Tends the Dead (Faye Random). Strangely enough, though, it is more Revari than Kymeera who has something to say about the matter. When questioned further on the meaning of her hints, however, Revari has been prone to slipping into riddles and rhymes. Just what could the fae courts be up to?

Ick on Echt: While a great number of Rhydin's populace might find this tidbit of news to be a blessing in disguise, we here at Ubique's have found recent occurrences to both be baffling and disturbing in some rights. Many followers of Echt have been found skewered on pikes along the myriad of roads around Rhy'din, their eyes and tongues removed with precision, as well as their ear drums ruptured and the insides of their nostrils singed. Apparantly all these atrocities occurred before the time of death, which is also indeterminite as they were put on the pikes while they were alive, utilizing the techniques of Vlad Dracul "the Impaler" of piercing the torso while avoiding all vital organs, causing death to come slowly and agonizingly. Some unfortunate souls have also been found still alive, just barely so, and still twitching. Much to the dismay of some of our more strong-stomached reporters, these victims were unable to communicate (for obvious reasons) to tell us more about this mysterious assailant.

Internal Struggles: Speaking of fae interractions, it seems that most of them have taken a great interest in the entity known as Mithril (ASaintOfSinners). Ever since the reunion of the thirds into one, there have been random times when one fae or another will drop in on him to make sure that all the threads have been staying in one piece. Earlier this week, Mithril was plagued with a battle of the personalities when his Lusus side attempted to take over. Dropping in to patch up the shredded strands was the realm's least favorite dream-giver Kymeera (TheDreamWarden). The entire evening turned out to be one huge fiasco of power versus power as two of Mithril's friends tried to step in to take care of the problem. The young half-elf mage known as Terry (Terrance Tomar) was determined to fight every power that was flung at him in order to free Mithril from the dasterdly clutches of the Lusus and Gadreel minds. "Backed up" by the mysterious female fighter known as Ta'as (Gloomwatch), the pair were faced with quite the challenge. To trust or not to trust a creature as dark and ominous as The Nightmare Keeper in helping to free Mithril's mind? In the end, whatever their decisions might have been, there was success to be had. Will Mithril fall victim to losing himself again in the future? And will they all have to face Kymeera again? Only time will tell.

The Good, The Bad, and the Parhi?: On the subject of Parhi's doubling, 'dark' Parhi walked into the Silver Moon Inn Tuesday night, apparently in an attempt to perform some reconnaissance inconspicuously, keeping to herself and trying to pass as 'light' Parhi. It didn't work - Shun (XShunkun) sensed her aura and asked, politely enough, if she was a member of Parhi's tribe. 'Dark' Parhi responded by attempting to assassinate Shun, stabbing him viciously in the heart. If it hadn't been for Shun's resilience and the presence of a number of healers, she might have succeeded. As it was, her attempt was not only unsuccessful, but witnessed by enough of the patrons to start a major brawl; Toho, Ariana, Tracy Duncan, Anorlas and Nicole E. Brock were among those trying to take a chunk out of her before she managed to escape. No small feat considering her pursuers. Now, the stakes have been raised; before, the 'dark' Parhi was merely a rather rude assassin, with one target. Now it is clear that she is a menace to anyone, at any or no provocation.

In Other News...

As with our Headlines, a good amount of the news in our pages is strictly Out of Character knowledge that we feel should be shared with the player communities. For those unable to be around when everyone else is, it helps to know who did what, when, where, how, and why. And that's precisely what our goal is: to keep you all informed! Adhering to those guidelines, we again would like to share with you some individual character updates. As always, it should be obvious which information which characters would know and which information characters would not know. The indiscretion is yours and should be acted upon accordingly. So... with that said, enjoy the mini-blurbs!

Ahriman (TheAngraMaiynu): No news this week. All reporters who tried to get news were found to be incoherent quivering piles of putty.

Anna (AriannaRavenwood): No news this week.

Ariana (ArianaMacGyldren): No news this week.

Carmine (TaciturnMerc): No news this week.

Cassiel (InvertedDarkness): The quiet angel of solitudes has not been seen in public recently. However, he has been taking the time to spend some quiet quality time with his beloved Vadriel (Vadriel de Guise).

Deputy Marshall Wynter (Rachael Wynter): No news this week.

Dris (BardGaIIant): No news this week.

Doctor Maranya Tatiana Valkonan (Maranya Valkonan): No news this week.

Duncan (Duncan J Harper): There have still been no sightings of this most elusive creature. The only facts we do have are that he seems to have completely removed himself from this dimension and every other dimension for that matter. In searching

               fl K b l k
wh mid d. A bl . un ca
                                If to nd.
And we here at Ubique's are still looking for brave reporters willing to cover the Duncan stories.

Ehzoterik VonArcanum Tempestas (Ehzoterik): Much to our surprise, there is no news about Ehz this week.

Elaine (Elaine Aqua): Still the cutest little girl in the entire multiverse.

Faye: She Who Tends the Dead (Faye Random): Since the reuninon of Gadreel and his thirds, She has made herself very removed from society. In the past few weeks, there has only been one sighting of her to take into account. Having been summoned by Mithril (ASaintOfSinners), she paid a visit to the Self Serve Tavern to find Terry (Terrance Tomar) and a female by the name of Ta'as (Gloomwatch) arguing. Deducing the argument to be about the presence of her kin (Kymeera and Revari) in recent times, She offered commentary but was refused audience. So instead of throwing in her potentially helping hand, she waited for Mithril to invite her inside the building for a little chat. Her visit was not very long and most of our reporters were too bored by the "conversation" to have given us any informative leads concerning Faye.

Foxpride Xavier Langston Pepper (Rings Twice): Nor is there any news about the Postman.

Fury (ReversedHaIo): No news this week.

Gem (Gemethyst): Reports have been rolling in around the clock for this particular character! Either she is turning into a regular Paparazzi attraction, or someone in our reporting offices has a crush on Gem. Either way, any news is good news!

Empathy: It has been growning stronger over the last months. Whether due to Cassiel's tear, various encounters with Talitha Lee and Ivory months before, or her pregnancy is not yet known. The result is that it is getting very hard for her to deal with being in a crowded area for long periods of time. She can "feel" all the people in a tumultuous mess that she cannot separate or shield against as she has literally no training. It is no longer just touch that brings the emotions to her. Though it seems to happen the worst if her own emotions are heightened.

She went back to Grant (ready to give up her friends, if she had to) on Saturday night. Even though he had nearly strangled her the prior Sunday after she left him. Call her stupid. It was then that the true horror was revealed to her. Grant really is insane (surprise surprise). He locked her in the church and was not going to let her out again. Ever. She was shown his daughter, whom he had reportedly killed long before. Apparantly she was a vampire and had attacked him. The daughter Gem saw was 6 or 7, and was a patchwork quilt of badly sewn seams. As if she had been sliced apart with a sword and then sewn back together, piece by piece. The child was breathing, laughing and speaking. She finally realized that Grant was indeed insane (as if that was the only reason). If she had not been able to weave, she would not have escaped. She had never told Grant of her ability. Or her true names. She had told him those names just before she discovered his instability. He now knows them. Once Gem escaped, he apparently went truly mad. For he soon approached Mestrangelo (Mesterangelo) and tossed her a note. That note had his little daughter's head attached to it (sick bastard). We do not know what the Tall One did with the poor child's head. The note she gave to Gem read :: "Do not let (Insert the last part of Gem's true name here) slip from your eye for too long. Otherwise, I might find myself tearing it apart as well." As you can see, Gem has much to be concerned about. For one thing, she no longer trusts her own judgement. She has now proven herself to be an utter fool. She has no foundation to stand on. And let's not even get into how she feels about Grant now. Devastated is a good word to describe her emotions and self-confidence. However, the only two who seem to know anything about these particular facts are Chaus (Wake up caIl) and Mestrangelo (Mesterangelo).

Lucien Onyx: This is Grant's father, or creator. He is a Vampire Lord. He was at the Keep on Saturday, utterly spooking Gem. What he wants is unknown. He has invited Gem to dinner to discuss the things she has recently discovered.

Lord Silthanas: Gem has recently been seen in the company of a Vampire Lord. She seems to know him from some many, many months past. He seems to be interested in her, and she in him. He is an elegant and very controlled male. One can only hope Gem is not being a fool again.

Gabreal: What goes on between he and Gem is no one's business but their's. And a few other interested parties. Gem does not seem to seek him out, and she does not seem to be missing any body parts. Or have teeth marks on her...nothing of that sort. Everyone knows he is a celibate priest. Everyone knows he eats males. Let the investigative reporters seek what they may.

Gee... Gem has some really weird friends. What can we say? Other than it might be stranger that our reporters have been stalking her day and night to deliver these stories to the presses. And yet... they're afraid to research more about Duncan? Oi.

Kymeera: The Nightmare Keeper (The Dream Warden): Kymeera has been very busy lately interfering in any bit of business that he can. Having recently received a fair number of personal requests on who to haunt, the Nightmare Keeper has been fashioning himself a list of potential dreamers. At the top of his list seems to be the mysterious she-male known as Shun (XShunkun). When questioned about his intentions regarding Shun, Kymeera has laughed hysterically and informed our reporters that he has "big plans for that one." We can only imagine that this is not a good sign. Then again, when is anything in relation to Kymeera a good thing? On a side note, apparantly he has something important to tell Mesteno (Bronze Mesteno), but has been too busy to deliver the message. Kind of keeps you on the edge of your seats, doesn't it?

Mallora (Ma11ora): No news this week.

Matriel (Rarefied Rain): No news this week.

Mesteno (Bronze Mesteno): Busy as ever, Mesteno's week has consisted of the usual trouble, beginning with a bit of field work (yes actual work!) with his Boss that led to a promotion - therefore with new training necessary he might not be seen quite so frequently in his usual haunts. In addition he and Chaus (Wake up caIl) talked Gem (Gemethyst) into allowing them to "take care" of Grant for her, and fully intend on putting an end to the man once and for all. On a slightly less serious note, he's made new friends in the form of Akuji (Purity in Sin), an odd, lupine man that's taken a shine to him (to put it lightly) and Shun (XShunkun), whom he wasted no time in getting to know in typical Mesteno fashion. Not a bad week, save for Kymeera's (TheDreamWarden) appearance. The Dream Warden's arrival left him typically aggravated, and worse, curious, since it seems the boy had some message to give him but vanished in a typically random fashion before doing so.

Mithril/Gadreel/Lusus (ASaintOfSinners): He has been as busy as ever. Rumor has it that he is having an internal war with himself as his three psyches are trying to assert their dominance. Both the Gadreel and Lusus personas tried to take over after an exercise in empathy went horribly awry. Fortunately Terry (Terrance Tomar) was around to help the Mithril persona take over once more. In more recent news he has encountered Fury (ReversedHaIo) and seemed most amused at a recent change in her character.

Ophelia (EspressoBlues): No news this week.

Rei (AmethystStarfall): Still hammering out details. Everything seems to be going according to plan.

Rekah (Rekah Dravina): No news this week.

Revari: The Daydream Weaver (KaleidoscopeWhim): The spirit of memories and happy dreams has made an overabundance of appearances this past week. The more and more she is seen, the more and more the assumption can be made that she has some huge purpose to fulfill during her time here. Most of the time she refrains from giving out her name, and instead has left a fair number of Rhydin residents wondering why a child so small seems to know so much about certain things. At any given opportunity, she seems to enjoy shifting the focus of conversation onto the subject of the entity known as She Who Tends the Dead (Faye Random). There have been several hints dropped that Faye is slowly intended to become forgotten. This of course has left many people puzzled about Revari's true intentions. Humorously enough, there are some Rhydin residents who have found her to be frightening. Some even pairing her up with Kymeera (TheDreamWarden) as a force to be feared!

Robin (Robin Kalahola): No news this week.

Sal (FrameworkMemento): Spirits far and wide have been discovered to be in a flurry of excited activity concerning the predetermined creation of the child known as Sal. Since Carmine decided upon a name for his son-to-be, more and more energies have swirled together in other planes. There are only two more rituals to be performed before the child is officially conceived. Some time in March, Salvador is expected to make his impact on the world by being "born."

Suriel (Thirteenthchange): Read last week's entry. Absolutely nothing has changed.

The Rev (Rev DiabIo): There have been some strange occurrences in relation to the Rev this past week. Reporters all over the multiverse have come back with a number of reports in having claimed to have seen him. None of our sources seem to agree on any one story. Someone apparantly spotted him working at a gas station in Truckee, CA. Another reporter claimed that he is working for the CIA and is not really dead. Instead the claim is that he's at a secret base in Alaska because his cover was blown or something and that he's hanging out with Kennedy. What's next? Returning from vacation in space with Elvis!?

Troy (Troy Embry): No news this week.

Vadriel (Vadriel de Guise): Keeping to himself as is habit, the heretic has spent the week making up for lost time with Cassiel while he has chance and attempting to get into contact with his once constant companion and often tormentor, David. The spirit's disappearance has caused an increased number of souls to swarm to his abode, particularly those of the malicious variety!

Valleana (Va11eana): No news this week.

Yoshi (KitsuneNineTails): He tried his hand at tending bar at the Silver Moon Inn, but quickly discovered that it was real work. He was more than happy to pass the bar onto someone else and dash off to have some fun. He has been seen tormenting a self proclaimed goddess who attracted his attention by explaining her diabolical plans for anyone to hear, stealing salmon from a fish vendor and placing it in an exclusive clothing boutique, and getting to know as many new people as he can each day.
