Ubique's Weekly

A Mutual Endeavors Publication

Issue #12 ~ 3 November 2003

The Blurb

Greetings and salutations, readers! Welcome to Ubique's first of November, when it comes to issues that is. It is suspected to be a rather slow month due to the lack of personal events amongst our readers and ME members. With Halloween having passed and Thanksgiving just around the corner, we'll have a lot of time to fill in gaps with upcoming adventures and plot lines for characters and players far and wide. There aren't very many updates to fill you all in on this week, but what our reporters did come up with is still worth the reading. So I'll spare you the prolonged rambling this week and get right to what you've all anticipated.

This Just In

Even amongst all the rushing brought on all by the holiday, there seems to have been quite a lot of playing going on this past week. Ubique's is overjoyed to announce that the role-playing activity has increased tremendously. Common rooms such as the Silver Moon Inn and the Medieval Tavern (our recommended bests) became flooded with play this weekend. At record-breaking numbers ranging far above 20, I'm sure everyone was quite amazed as well as pleased to see that there was actually something to do this week online. I'm sure you can all speak for yourselves in agreement, but as for us here at UW we'd rather you know what we know. Therefore, here are this week's...

Headlines

Breaking Up the Girl: On Tuesday night, 'dark' Parhi caught up with 'light' Parhi just outside the SMI. All hell broke loose, but nobody saw it. 'Dark' Parhi used some sort of device to enclose both of them in a dome of extra-dimensional energy, within which two hours passed within a few minutes outside. In that time, both Parhi's were slashed, burned, bruised and pierced. When the dome fell, only one of the Parhis was alive. She was taken into the SMI by Mrorir (VisionFogs) while Dean (TitaniumSentinel) torched the body of the vanquished -- it seemed a little too energetic for Dean's taste. Afterwards, the Parhi in the Inn managed to awaken, but had to be carried up to her room after some serious first aid. It appears 'light' Parhi was triumphant, but her aura has been 'shadowed' ever since. It is possible that, since both Parhi's were concordants of each other, the winner subsumed energy or spirit from the loser. She has appeared, very gingerly, to join a kind of song circle on Friday night, but otherwise she has been confined to her room to recuperate.

Dancing With the Devil: On October 31, 2003, the Third Annual Halloween Masquerade Ball was held at Renier Manor, located in the realm of Glenchester. The turn out was not as immense as the previous year, but those present still enjoyed themselves to the best of their abilities. It was there that quite a number of noteworthy events took place. Those who arrived in costume challenged the masses at guessing who they were behind their facades. In the end it was Ehz (Ehzoterik) who won the contest by correctly guessing the most. Dey (Dechirant) was especially kind in recognizing Ehz to be the only one to have accurately figured out whom her brother Bayland was disguised as. At the Ball Ehz presented her biggest surprise to date by helping unveil the exciting resurrection of the Good Reverend Tomas (Rev DiabIo). His return to the realm of the living was met with enthusiastic pleasantries. However, shortly after his unveiling, another more mysterious and definitely more dark entity revealed himself. It turned out that a Perfect Stranger who seemed not to be in costume at all, was in fact masking himself very well. At the end of the night, the psycho-killer known as the Sherryman, or Jack the Ripper, (V Call me Jack V) admitted to being amongst them the entire time directly under their noses. Much to the dismay of all, he was allowed to escape. Set free to roam the streets of Rhydin once again. Who knows where he might strike next? The most baffling part of the entire experience is that Ehz herself had been the only one to get close to the Ripper by dancing with him. Our sources claim that her mask (which covered most of her head) was interfering with her erratic mental powers that evening. Either that, or the excitement involved in Tommy's return was too prominent in her mind to have noticed much of anything else.

Halloween Resurrection: On October 31, 2003, the Good Reverend Tomas surpassed the realm of the dead to return to the realm of the living. While our sources are not completely clear on the how's and why's of this particular story, what we do know still presents itself as a good story. Ehz (Ehzoterik) took the interdimensional postman named Fox (Rings Twice) on a journey into the Outer Reaches of Limbo in search of her friend Tommy. Several weeks ago, Ehz was sighted at the Red Dragon Inn Keep where she announced to all those present that she had supposedly found Tomas. No one believed her. Yet she proved them all wrong when she and Fox successfully returned to the realms of Rhydin with Tomas and a woman known as Cassia (Cassia Drake) in tow. No one really knows how she does it, but apparently Ehz drew a new body for Tom's soul to inhabit. With all these facts, however strange they may seem, we can truthfully say that Tom is alive and doing well. Let's hope nothing like this ever happens again. It's too confusing.

In Other News...

With little to no fanfare, here are this week's Character Updates!

Ahriman (TheAngraMaiynu): No news this week.

Anna (AriannaRavenwood): The blue sister still tends to house and home along with her husband Galen (Galen Ravenwood) and their two year old son Brion.

Ariana (ArianaMacGyldren): The green sister has been tending to family business and the bakery most of the week. Among the events she witnessed this past week are the marriage of Bobby (R Lee Hatchar) and Bri (Sabrielle Marrick), the death of Dark Parhi, a gift of a hand crafted music box from her son Dris (BardGaIIant) and the return of the Good Rev (Rev DiabIo) to the living. Ariana is still worried about word of a "Thief of Time," especially with the return of her daughter Elaine's nightmares.

Carmine (TaciturnMerc): Nothing too very exciting happened in Carmine's life this week other than taking on another job on Halloween night. Apart from being precise in taking his medication to prepare him for the Dance, he has been trying his best to help Dris (BardGaIIant) deal with the problems he has been having concerning his tortured sanity.

Cassiel (InvertedDarkness): No news this week.

Deputy Marshall Wynter (Rachael Wynter): The scarred law woman in black continues to investigate various crime sprees, including a long-running series of atrocities performed on children. Rachael has also received some reports of a warehouse containing six bodies, all missing their fingers, a body outside a lighthouse missing its fingers, a couple dozen bodies in the lighthouse and about seventy severed fingers. Some of the men were obviously killed by what appeared to be a large animal. The investigations into these matters have kept Rachael busy and therefore she hasn't ventured out in public much lately.

Dris (BardGaIIant): On a whole this past week, Dris has been keeping himself quite busy while enjoying life. Despite being unable to physically touch his lover due to an unhealthy toxic side-effect from some sort of medicine, life has been rather good. Very early in the week he stopped by the Silver Moon Inn to deliver a delayed birthday present to his mother Ariana (ArianaMacGyldren), a music box that he had spent a great deal of time crafting. His first success. Later in the week he ran into his friend Thorm (GuthormOthinsson) at the Medieval Tavern and caught up on some conversation. After explaining to Thorm what a music box was and how it worked, they parted ways. The weekend provided itself as an enjoyable time as well. Back at the Silver Moon Inn he joined in the musical festivities and met a friend of his mother's by the name of Desti (DestinieMacLeod). Everything went very well for him until much later in the day Sunday morning. After agreeing to watch over the Inn for Ari, Dris discovered that the 'Moon seemed to have suddenly gathered a series of hauntings. This brought him to wondering if his sanity was slipping again and he quickly returned home for some well-needed rest and relaxation.

Doctor Maranya Tatiana Valkonan (Maranya Valkonan): The good Doctor has yet to be seen in public after returning from her mysterious trip out of town. There's still no word on where she went or why she went there.

.....here there's a section torn out of the paper...............

Ehzoterik VonArcanum Tempestas (Ehzoterik): Determined in her quest to find and rescue Tommy (Rev DiabIo), Ehz dragged the interdimensional postman known as Fox into the Outer Reaches of Limbo. A land where not very many sane people ever dare to travel. In the very early hours of Halloween, Ehz and her companion successfully rescued Tommy's soul from forever being lost. In the process they picked up another friend who had apparently been magically whisked away to rot forever in Limbo. Ehz claims that finding Tommy and his friend Cassia (Cassia Drake) and bringing them home safe were the easy parts. It was drawing a new body for Tommy's soul to inhabit which proved difficult. In the end, Ehz celebrated her many joyous successes by joining in on the holiday spirit. She went to the Annual Halloween Masquerade Ball hosted by Dey's (Dechirant) brother Bayland dressed as a baby bumblebee. There she rejoiced in winning the guessing contest as well as helping Tommy announce his return. But the evening ended on a frightening note, when someone Ehz has been trying to forget about decided to make his debut. See our Headlines for more details concerning Ehzoterik's Dance With the Devil.

Elaine (Elaine Aqua): The most adorable little girl in the entire Multiverse is still suffering very bad dreams.

Erasimus Greene (PersistanceTime): There have been sightings of this mysterious old gnome since he was last seen at the Silver Moon Inn. It is rumored that during his accidental visit he was accosted by a number of patrons concerning the accusations surrounding him of being the "Thief of Time." Due to a little luck on his part, a denizen of the Dreaming happened to be present at the time. Shortly after muttering a wish that was quickly granted by the Daydream Weaver, he vanished into thin air. Since that time, he has been nowhere to be found.

Faye: She Who Tends the Dead (Faye Random): No news this week. It's as if She has disappeared for good.

Foxpride Xavier Langston Pepper (Rings Twice): With a little help from the chaotic energies of Limbo and its primary inhabitant, Fox successfully managed to aid Ehz (Ehzoterik) in her quest to rescue someone from the Outer Reaches. Having found whom they were looking for, along with an extra guest, the two returned back to the more organized lands of Rhydin with rescued passengers. Fox left Ehz and her friends at a door leading to Ariana's (ArianaMacGyldren) kitchen. He then took off to take care of other matters elsewhere. Not much has been seen of him since.

Fury (ReversedHaIo): No news this week.

Gem (Gemethyst): In a surprising yet joyful turn of events, Gem's life this past week has gone by without very many problems whatsoever. It is rumored that she spent the evening before Halloween at a party dressed as a dominatrix (amusing to imagine since she's very clearly pregnant). The next evening she was one of a few who participated in Fayalki (Fayalki) and Dey's (Dechirant) Annual Halloween Masquerade Ball. This time she dressed herself up as a pregnant pirate. Harr harr! She was proven wrong by Ehz (Ehzoterik) when the Good Reverend Tomas (Rev DiabIo) unmasked himself at the Ball. She was also one of the few present to witness the surprise return of the Sherryman (V Call me Jack V).

Jade (Irreverent Jade): No news this week.

Kymeera: The Nightmare Keeper (The Dream Warden): With the names on his "do not touch" list having been significantly diminished, the Nightmare Keeper has become very active in the realms of dreams recently. Despite the Queen's royal ban on communicating with the demon Gadreel (ASaintOfSinners), Kymeera alone is the only one who still bothers to have anything to do with him. This mostly being in the nature of annoying the living hell out of him and pestering him with nonstop chitchat. Though recently he spent the morning after Halloween in the Medieval Tavern spooking the locals.

Mallora (Ma11ora): No news this week.

Matriel (Rarefied Rain): No news this week.

Mesteno (Bronze Mesteno): No news this week.

Mithril/Gadreel/Lusus (ASaintOfSinners): Most recently it has become known that Gadreel did the unexpected by releasing all those souls he helped drag down from the torments of Hell. Much to his dismay, however, nearly every last one of these damned spirits have decided that they would much rather follow him around and haunt him than pass on. Most of these spirits are restless and mindless, having been destroyed by the torments of Hell for so long. Though in a recent revelation, Mithril has discovered that there are seven very specific spirits who are stronger than the rest. Only seven who are even partially willing to communicate with him. While he may be the only one who can hear them, there is no mistaking that he is inescapably haunted due to the increased levels of paranormal activity that occur anywhere that he may roam.

Ophelia (EspressoBlues): One of our reporters received a call from a patron of the Kaotic Koffee Howce concerning some sort of "strange activity" going on. When visiting the Howce, the only person to be found was of course the employee named Ophelia. When questioned, she explained that Pierce (one of the other employees) told her "the place was haunted." In questioning her further she said, "Hell if I know what ... is going on. All I know is when I got here there were ... dishes ... everywhere and the place was a ... disaster!" Our reporter did not question her further, claiming that she became rather offensive towards him and that he had to flee for his safety before being able to find out more.

Rei (AmethystStarfall): No news this week.

Rekah (Rekah Dravina): No news this week.

Revari: The Daydream Weaver (KaleidoscopeWhim): Not too very much has been seen of the mysterious miniature Alice in Wonderland lookalike. However, our sources have explained to us that she was seen at the Medieval Tavern this past weekend. There it is said that she held short and incomprehensible conversation with the entity known as Suriel (Thirteenth Change). It is claimed that he asked her to give a specific Rhydin resident a teddy bear after he watched her give one to a little girl by the name of Mary (Mary SteeI). It is still not completely clear why it is that Revari gives people these teddy bears, but we are convinced that it is related to the fact that she is the spirit of happy memories and pleasant dreams.

Robin (Robin Kalahola): No news this week.

Suriel (Thirteenthchange): The angel of death's quest for figuring out precisely why humans do the things they do continues. He was seen quite a few times this past weekend at the Medieval Tavern. He was observed having cryptic conversations with such people as Dris (BardGaIIant), Revari (KaleidoscopeWhim), and Jame (Occultreality). Though none of our reporters can quite figure out what meaning of life he is specifically looking for, we can say that it is interesting to note how active he has been in roaming the mortal realms lately.

The Rev (Rev DiabIo): BIG NEWS UPDATE! The Good Reverend Tomas is alive and well! On the morning of Halloween, his soul was rescued from the Outer Reaches of Limbo by none other than the persistent Ehzoterik VonArcanum Tempestas (Ehzoterik) and her reluctant partner in crime Fox (RingsTwice). Having spent most of his days enjoying the company of a lonely Limbo wanderer named Cassia (Cassia Drake), it was a surprise for him to have been found by his longtime friend Ehz. She and Fox brought his soul back to the real world, and at some time later in the day Ehz drew him a new body to inhabit. The long and the short of it all is that the Rev is no longer dead. So much for our absolutism.

Troy (Troy Embry): No news this week.

Vadriel (Vadriel de Guise): No news this week.

Valleana (Va11eana): No news this week.

Yoshi (KitsuneNineTails): No news this week.

Final Thoughts

Disclaimer: It is a well-known fact that our rules and regulations here at UW concerning distribution of our newsletter are quite lenient. Time and time again we have encouraged each and every one of you to forward copies of our publication to anyone whom you might think would enjoy the reading. Presenting ourselves strictly as a source of collaborative and shared entertainment, we stick by certain policies such as those more commonly found in the Declaration of Independence. Most specifically we adhere to the ideologies surrounding Freedom of Speech and Freedom of the Press. Meaning your news is our news and news to be shared with the world at large. However, we don't exactly share our knowledge with everybody. Merely a choice few. And sometimes those choice few decide to share that knowledge with others. Like any good publication, we here at Ubique's have stumbled upon an implication. Shortly after the distribution of our 11th Edition, the Editor received a short and succinct letter from a player whom we thought would benefit from the enjoyment that we share with the rest of you. Much to our dismay, this player was not pleased in the slightest and made it very clear that being acknowledged in our newsletter was not something to appreciate. Some of our dedicated readers have taken it upon themselves to talk with this particular player in hopes of understanding the disagreement. However, the Editor has taken no such action. To quote: "Private people should not go out in public." We reserve the right discuss what goes on with our characters, including such things as who those characters interact with. If people don't like it, then maybe they should give role-playing online a second thought. As it is a common mindset that role-playing is in a sense is a wide-scale collaborative effort all its own, how exactly is it possible to keep everything to yourself without sharing even a little. Eventually, whether someone likes it or not, characters are going to get noticed and acknowledged. Facts are going to be learn and become known. From there it is like a disease without a cure that spreads until everyone everywhere knows. Accepting that, we should all keep in mind that there are no longer such things as secrets.
