Ubique's Weekly Special Edition A Mutual Endeavors Publication Issue #15 ~ 24 November 2003 The Blurb Greetings and salutations, devoted readers! Today is the big day. The day that marks the fifteenth weekly edition of Ubique's Weekly. All that and so much more. We'll be teetering and tottering back and forth quite a lot between IC and OOC information this week. November has been a very active month and we'll be sad to see it go. But let us not allow that to dismay our role-play. December is just around the corner and we're certain there will be even more news to spread across the Multiverse. With all of the information I've been receiving backwards and forwards about characters far and wide, I've had to do quite a bit of consideration on the part of UW's true purpose. Certainly the intention in the creation of this newsletter was to give players a way of staying in touch and communicating with their fellow role-playing partners. It's main premise was to encourage the enjoyment and entertainment we all get out of using our vast imaginations, and to keep the dream alive by keeping every storyline on the same track. These ideals haven't changed, but it has come to my attention that some redecoration may be necessary to further our goals. Intriguing ideas have been placed before me and I'm starting to think that so much more can be done. Therefore, I'm going to make this issue long and present to you all a proposal. The Proposal: When I came up with the idea for a weekly newsletter, I found myself quite stuck on the concept of a name for the masterpiece. A dear friend of mine helped me out by tossing out synonyms left and right. Thus it was eventually that we agreed upon the title of Ubique's Weekly. The word "ubique" actually comes from the Latin phrasing "hic et ubique," which simply means in pure definition: here and everywhere. The choice of words appealed to me primarily based on the concept of my character Ehzoterik VonArcanum Tempestas. For those of you who have seen her in action, there have been times where I have exerted the efforts to explain just how it is that Ehz knows about everything and everyone in Rhydin and beyond. Basically, she has "eyes" that see everything that happens to everyone everywhere. There is more detail to this, but I won't get into too much detail about it here. If you really want to know, then maybe you can inspire me to go into the crazy details in a future issue. As it is, my main intention was to provide a newsletter that kept the players informed of what was going on with certain characters week by week. So that those who might find themselves clueless from lack of play can still feel a bit involved by at least reading about it somewhere. Saves on file-sharing. With each issue I write up, I begin to see an overabundance of crossovers. Information that could be shared from character to character as opposed to from player to player. So I thought this morning, "Why not have two newsletters?" One for the strictly OOC information and another for the strictly IC information. So many ideas, so little time. Certainly I cannot be expected to write up both of these newsletters and have the time to live, work, and play that I would like to. So my proposal is this: Let us have two newsletters. The OOC one would remain Ubique's Weekly as it mostly is now. The IC one may even have the same name but be written through the perspective of our characters. What happens in Rhydin according to them. Consider this and tell me your thoughts, gentle readers. Consider a potential history in the making. Now that I've extended the Blurb longer than I usually do, I think it's high time that I move things along. There are quite a few fascinating stories to share with you this week. But this time I'm tossing something a little different at you. Amongst the usual Headlines and Character Updates you will find a new addition to the newsletter. Recent events being timed as they have been, there is quite a bit of organization and collaboration to be brought together. So keep in mind that most of the information you will see herein is strictly OOC. As always I'll be leaving it up to you which information you think your characters might be party to as well as you the player. Play smart. Play fair. But most of all, have fun out there. That said, I give to you today's...
Top Story Several months back quite a number of characters became involved in an intricate storyline whether they were aware of it or not. For those of you who may or may not be aware, back around April a pair of role-players conspired on an idea that was bound to make history. It was conceived by the player of Carmine Gonzalez (Taciturn Merc) that the character in his encroaching old age was beginning to feel the urge to procreate. Yet considering the circumstances of his lifestyle (for those who know the details), such a dream did not seem so very attainable. Then it was one day that he met up with an extremely aloof woman by the name of Faye Random (Faye Random). It was a strange convergence of two equally stoic characters who amazing discovered that they enjoyed each others' company. After several conversations on life and its many varied possibilities, they stumbled upon the mutual yearning for a child. Carmine soon discovered a fascinating fact about Faye and her species. It became known to him that fae kind do not care for their young as humans do. In fact, it was revealed that they are more akin to sea turtles or serpents: as in they leave the eggs to hatch and fend for themselves so to speak. Considering Carmine's lifestyle and desire for a child of his own not to have an involved mother, this struck him as a prime opportunity. Thus it was that he asked Faye if she would be willing to be the mother of his child. After some time of debate and consideration, she agreed. However, she warned Carmine that certain sacrifices would need to be made in order for a half-breed child such as theirs to even be permitted to be brought into existence. Carmine was willing to do whatever it took to make this dream come true, and so he blindly agreed. Once the pact was made, Faye put Carmine through a seven-month-long series of arduous tasks and rituals that tested his resolved and determination. On each new moon he was required to perform a specific ritual. Yet during all this, Faye never told him of what was truly meant to be. Friends and family over time learned of this mating and supported it to their fullest extent. Even with all this, over those long seven months, strange occurrences began to plague Rhydin. Above all these was a mysterious fugue that seemed to assault the minds of those most involved with the entire ordeal. Forgetfullness and memory lapses reigned supreme. Until it was on the final new moon and the performance of the final ritual known as the Dance that absolute memory loss ruled over one and all. As of the stroke of midnight on Sunday evening (November 23, 2003), Carmine has since forgotten any and all dealings he had with Faye and the concept of siring a child. So was it all an elaborate hoax, or did Faye and Carmine actually have a child together? The truth as it is brought to you by the players is this: The spirit of memory and happy dreams, better known as Revari (KaleidoscopeWhim) had a very important role to play in all of this. It was her task as appointed by the fairy courts to make certain that everyone who knew of such an endeavor taking place be eradicated from their memories completely. For those few creatures whose minds cannot be tampered with in such a way, the Queen of the fae requested an oath-bond of them for eternal silence on the matter. Many have been noted to have signed this contract and agree to the circumstances. Carmine nor his closest companion Dris (BardGaIIant) have any memory of what truly happened. Revari made certain that memory was rewritten for those vulnerable. The truth as they know it is that Carmine had found out he had come down with a lethal illness that would kill him if nothing was done about it. Seeking Faye's help, the rituals he performed were actually to him those necessary to help him rid his body of the illness. As far as he is aware, the procedures were successful and he is now as fit as a fiddle. This is the same story that he is expected to tell anyone who bothers to ask. Now what really happened? Well,... That's a story for another time. History and memory has been rewritten. For the purpose of role-play, the players involved in the storyline hope that other players keep their wishes in mind and keep everything a tightly locked secret. Just as a certain group of characters whose minds were unable to be altered are doing, it is expected that cooperation and collaboration will continue to exist amongst us and that the story will proceed as planned. All we really have to know is, there is no child. There never was going to be a child. And Faye is retreating for her long Winter's rest early this year. As for Carmine, well ... life will be just as obliviously enjoyable as before. This Just InPhew! Now that I've gotten all that out of the way, I think it's about time we get on with what everybody's been expecting all week long. There are quite a number of Headlines to share that have been submitted by our loyal readers. Sometimes I think I take this all for granted. So if I haven't done so before, just let me take the time right now to thank you all for your immense cooperation in helping keep the UW dream alive and kicking. Now let's take a look and see what's in store for us with this week's... Headlines A Midautumn Night's Dream: Reports have been pouring in from around the globe (Rhydin that is) about a mysterious phenomenon in dreamland. Several people throughout the world awoke early this Monday morning claiming that they had the most wonderful dreams than they have ever experienced. Night watchmen claimed that time literally stopped at midnight for a fully precise thirty-three seconds, and then all seemed to proceed as normal. Most of the night-owls claim that for a brief instant they thought they had suddenly awakened from a daydream or perhaps brief lapse of plagued narcolepsy. Mysterious occurrences also include stopped watches and clocks that after several seconds suddenly sprang to life again in unison to toll the hour. Weather reports claim that freak storm winds emerged seemingly out of nowhere and atmospheric pressures dropped drastically. At just about that precise instant it began to rain, a slow drizzle that has lasted all morning long. Researchers cannot quite explain these strange occurrences, but officials proclaim that everyone just needs to stop partying so much and get more rest. No one is really looking into these stories any further. Evidence of Battle at Rhydin Central Park: Early this morning we were informed of several eyewitness reports concerning unexplainable remnants of webbing littered about a nearby park in central Rhydin. Forensics investigators proclaim that some sort of battle occurred in the park overnight, yet they are still somewhat baffled on precisely what the warriors involved might have been. A thick molasses like substance was found dried near the crime scene. There have also been reports of insectoid like tracks discovered retreating into the surrounding foliage. It has also been said by one reporter that, "There was an outline of something in the webbing that I'd say distinctly looked like a monstrous sized ant or something." While officials at this point are not being too cooperative with the media, it can be said that perhaps a historical Clash of the Chitinous went down overnight. More on this story when it becomes available. Who Needs Orkin?: Sunday night, Hmte made yet another assault upon the Silver Moon Inn. Witnessed by Colleen and Toho, Leviticus, Cat, Gem and a number of others, the ants (workers mostly but three Soldiers as well) made a run on the front of the Inn. They were primarily repulsed by Donatello Harada and Syd (SmileFang). The patrons quickly discovered that one of the few things that could work reliably on the Soldiers is very intense fire. Shortly thereafter, the two maniacs made an abortive assault on one of the tunnels to Hmte's lair with a satchelful of explosives. The destruction was total. Don and Syd were seriously injured, both of them stung by a soldier, and then caught in the force of the explosion that collapsed a number of Hmte's tunnels near the SMI. Hmte was agitated by the disruption - although injured, the explosion might have increased Hmte's power in the long run, as it spurred it to further thought -- and personal developement... Shortly after, on that same night, Duncan (Duncan H Harper) had another encounter with a Soldier, in a park near the SMI. He survived, of course, but he wasn't happy... In Other News... This week's Character Updates are few and far between. But in the long run it's not so disappointing. The closer we get to the end of the month, it seems to become a trend that less play actually goes on. Setting aside fanfare, here's what's been going on in character land. Ahriman (TheAngraMaiynu): No news this week. Aldous the Axe (SMI Axe): UW reporters are still anxiously awaiting a time in which Aldous will be available for an exclusive interview. We here at Ubique's would also like to remind our readers that any questions you may have for the SMI Management's right-hand man are welcome to be submitted to the research department care of:

. Anna (AriannaRavenwood): No news this week. Ariana (ArianaMacGyldren): The green sister has been tending to family business and the bakery most of the week. She did look after the Silver Moon Inn twice last week, though nothing newsworthy happened during her times there. Ariana continues to worry about her daughter Elaine's nightmares. Banshee Aqua (Banshee Aqua): No news this week. Carmine (TaciturnMerc): It's been a long seven months, but medical doctors proclaim the mercenary to be fit as a fiddle. His lifetime expectancy has been considerably improved, and many of the doctors have been asking him how he did it. As usual, Carmine has been very quiet on these matters and really just wants to spend some time relaxing now that it's all over and done with. Cassiel (InvertedDarkness): He is worried about Mesteno and wishes he could do something to bring the man some peace. Chaus (Wake up caIl): No news this week. D (Duncan H Harper): He's back! News reports claim he has recently encountered one of the Hmte soldier ants. It was a hell of a battle, but he came out the victor. He took the creature's head as a trophy, which will be found suspended over the bar of the SMI, and the abdomen, which is loaded with a stinger and a gland full of formic acid. Seems he's made a triumphant return to the realms! Our reporters are anxiously on the move trying to gather as much information about him as possible. Deputy Marshall Wynter (Rachael Wynter): The scarred law woman in black continues to investigate various crime sprees and has completely abandoned the investigation about the "lighthouse finger murders." Rachael hasn't been seen in public since her violent encounter with Don (DonatelIo Harada) the other week. Dris (BardGaIIant): Work, work, and more work. But at the end of the week he was very relieved to watch Carmine successfully pull through the final medical trials that have proclaimed him perfectly healthy. Now it's time for a little R&R. Doctor Maranya Tatiana Valkonan (Maranya Valkonan): The good Doctor has been tending to her patients and has resumed her work with Mrs. VanHasselt. Maranya has actually been seen in public twice this past week, the most notable of which is her visit to the Silver Moon Inn the other night when she announced a "blessed" event to both Sydney (SmileFang) and Donatello (DonatelIo Harada). The good Doctor is still noticeably closed mouthed about what happened on her recent trip out of town. Donatello Harada (DonatelIo Harada): See our Headlines. Ehzoterik VonArcanum Tempestas (Ehzoterik): No news this week. Elaine (Elaine Aqua): No change here, the most adorable little girl in the entire Multiverse still suffers from very bad dreams. Emmy (Empress Grayfur): Purr. Erasimus Greene (PersistanceTime): No news this week. Faye: She Who Tends the Dead (Faye Random): No news this week. Foxpride Xavier Langston Pepper (Rings Twice): No news this week. Fury (ReversedHaIo): It would seem that she's back to her weekly outings. After being spotted a couple times around town at various bookstores one must wonder what exactly she is up to. All that is certain is that Gadreel has asked her to sew 13 fluffy white rabbits. For what purpose? That remains to be seen. Gem (Gemethyst): No news this week. Jack Bishop (Jackrabbit Blue): Yes, that's right. Jack is back. But not that Sherryman chap. After a very long spring and summer, he has finally decided to take a break from his gardening duties at the Doc's (Maranya Valkonan) ranch to see what's been going on in Rhydin since he's been practically comatose from social activity. Making a stop at the Medieval Tavern, he met a girl named Paiva who quickly recruited him to volunteer with washing the fire engines and other things at her station. He got more than he bargained for in the way of pranks pulled on him by the other firefighters, but don't think he didn't play his fair share of tricks right back on them. Will Jack be around more? Or will he hibernate for the winter like a good bunny should? Jade (Irreverent Jade): No news this week. Kevin (Kevin N Summers): Kevin has been busy making the transition to life in Rhydin. He's living with Blythe Afton, and still doing his best to make a living as a freelance photographer, and is still bucking for a position as UW's official photographer. Kymeera: The Nightmare Keeper (The Dream Warden): No news! Huzzah! Lady Calypso Proudfoot (Lady Proudfoot): Meow. Mallora (Ma11ora): No news this week. Matriel (Rarefied Rain): No news this week. Mesteno (Bronze Mesteno): Unwisely, the recently single sadist has opted to drown his sorrows in his old poison, Grande Marnier, and spent much of the week either very inebriated or trying to drink enough to get to such a state, which left one "friend" in the hospital and another temporarily mutilated. Mood swings have varied from utterly flippant to plain unpleasant, friends have been insulted thoughtlessly and there has been an increase in plain reckless behavior that could quite easily have ended up serious were it not for those aforementioned friends acting as guardian angels of sorts. Depression was further deepened when he was unable to prevent Shiloh being snatched by a Garou. Feeling useless is not something he's fond of. Having moved out of his home, he's currently staying with his oldest friend Vadriel, but considering their differing lifestyles is considering it only a temporary placement. Offers of homes with others have been turned down due to fears of romantic entanglements getting involved (offers have been far from sparse since his marriage broke up). On a more cheerful note he was able to attend the birth of Renny's (one of his closest friends) first child. Mithril/Gadreel/Lusus (ASaintOfSinners): Mithril is considering getting a job, perhaps as a taxi driver. He still needs to go see Jade. Mozart (Amadaeus Felidae): Mrow! Ophelia (EspressoBlues): No news this week. Pleione (StellarBalinese): Hiss. Rei (AmethystStarfall): No news this week. Rekah (Rekah Dravina): Well, the crazy girl hasn't been seen in weeks, nay months! The last real sighting was of her being carted away by the folks in white jackets and throwing quite a fit while she was at it. Revari: The Daydream Weaver (KaleidoscopeWhim): There isn't very much to say about the spirit of memories this week that hasn't already been detailed in our Headlines. She has been very active ensuring that everyone forgets about there ever being any deal made between Carmine and Faye about a child. On top of that she has been trying very hard to get in touch with Mesteno in hopes to touch base with him about current events. Other than meeting a new friend at the Medieval Tavern by the name of Piper, there isn't much to be said about what she's been doing. Robin (Robin Kalahola): No news this week. Rose (Electrum Rose): No news this week. Seamus Wylie (Seamus Wylie): Seamus has made very few public appearances lately, and this week was no exception. He was spotted in the SMI by a few people, but talked to even fewer, preferring to stay unusually quiet and subdued. He did help Miles and Shun bring a barrel of ale down the stairs, but was promptly chided by Maranya, his doctor. As his hands are still bandaged, this was probably a justifiable chiding. The sailor and cook was still jumpy and distant this week, shying away especially from anyone attempting to touch him, but has still offered no explanations. Suphlatus (AInfernalElement): No news this week. Suriel (Thirteenthchange): No news this week. Sydney Harada (SmileFang): See our Headlines. The Rev (Rev DiabIo): No news this week. Troy (Troy Embry): No news this week. Vadriel (Vadriel de Guise): The ex-priest is currently working overtime to appease the more violent souls which have begun to frequent his home, and whist doing an admirable job, is finding the whole process undeniably draining. He also has a house guest in the form of Mesteno, whom he took under his wing after the break up of his marriage, and spends any free available time with Cassiel, when the angel is able to escape his heavenly duties. Valleana (Va11eana): No news this week. Yoshi (KitsuneNineTails): No news this week.
