Ubique's Weekly

A Mutual Endeavors Publication

Issue #21 ~ 12 January 2004

The Blurb

A bright and happy New Year to one and all! As with all new things, change is involved. When concerning Ubique's Weekly, a great deal of change comes into the big picture. These are not likely to be my last apologies on the delay to the newsletter. So much has been happening lately that I cannot guarantee anymore that this will be sent out on time. The biggest change of the New Year, on a personal level for me, was the fact that I ended my employment with the big retail corporation in which I was working for. Some of you may be aware of this fact. Or you could all be clueless. All I know for certain is that I've been busy on the job hunt and the reorganization of my own life. So I ask for future forgiveness if UW doesn't always get out to you on time.

On the bright side, I have had a few ME members offer to help me with the workload involved with putting Ubique's together every week. The truth of the matter is that it isn't very hard at all to put the newsletter together. What makes it difficult for me to do so on time is the fact that I've been very busy and distracted. In the future I may just take these dedicated members up on their offers and allow them the freedom to personalize Ubique's Weekly. This constitutes for even more change on the part of privacy. Some of you probably prefer the fact that UW is issued in blind carbon copy format. If you have any problem with having your screen name shared with the rest of the UW staff, please be certain to notify me immediately. Other arrangements can always be made, but it would be much easier for me to share the mailing list with the rest of the staff.

With all that said, I think it's time we move on with the first issue of the New Year. It's been a long time coming and I'm sure the suspense is killing you. So, without further ado, here's the news from the past two weeks!

Our Top Story!

Two weeks ago I received a fascinating e-mail from one of our readers. The overall idea suggested in the letter was too good to pass up, and I thought it would be a blast to share it with all of you.

Some of our lovely SMI and Northedge players, dedicated UW readers that we are, have decided we'd like an "End of the Year..." Ballot. Below is the list we've created for said ballot, and all completed forms can be sent to This e-mail address is being protected from spam bots, you need JavaScript enabled to view it . Please take the time to nominate your friends and the most deserving, and send them no later than the 20th of January, when they shall all be tallied. Results of the vote will be in a future edition of Ubique's Weekly, so stay tuned!

This Just In

Due to the delay in publication, it shouldn't be too very surprising that we have a lot of information to share with you all. I am very pleased to note that many more subscribers have been sending in information than usual. As far as the Headlines are concerned, however, I'm afraid there really isn't much change there. Our collaborative efforts in stories are still few and far between. Yet what we do have is just as inspiring as every other combined story we have had since. So it is with great joy that I bring to you two week's worth of...

Headlines

An End of a Killing Spree: The case of mysterious organ disposals and the murder of Halavar Arenson at the Silver Moon Inn has been solved as of the first of the year! Authorities shared with us the exclusive details of the successful investigation, and we are bringing it to you!

The Organ Killer has been found. Late the previous week, she appeared in the SMI. A blond, though it might not have been natural, and found to be in the late stages of Syphilis. It most likely aided in driving her insane, but one has to be a bit kooky to begin with to do something like this. She made the final fatal flaw of trying for Seamus Wylie while on his shift at the SMI, going for the head. The bartender escaped with the aid of several people, most notably Deputy Rachel Wynter. The killer was hauled in for questioning, mumbling her confessions in the back of the car, and was found dead in the interrogation room later that night. Cause of death has been determined as blunt trauma to the head, most likely foul play. There are ten minutes of footage removed from all the security cameras. The Deputy has been said to be looking into it. Things have returned to their normal chaos at the inn since.

More on this breaking story as it comes to us!

In Other News...

Now wasn't that just awe-inspiring? Thankfully I can honestly say that our individual Character Updates are a lot more numerous than our Headlines. Since I'm not feeling very elaborate today, we'll just move it right along.

Ahriman (TheAngraMaiynu): No news.

Aldous the Axe (SMI Axe): No news.

Anna (AriannaRavenwood): The blue sister, along with her husband Galen (Galen Ravenwood) and son Brion, is still spending the holidays at her husband's clan lands with her twin sister and her immediate family. There has been no news yet of her return.

Ariana (ArianaMacGyldren): The green sister, along with her husband Galen (Galen MacGyldren) and daughter Elaine (Elaine Aqua), also is still at her husband and brother in law's clan lands to spend the holidays there with her twin sister and her family. Ariana made a brief appearance at the Silver Moon Inn on New Year's Eve and saw her brother Don (DonatelIo Harada) in a rather inebriated state. She returned in time to celebrate the New Year with her husband. There is no news yet of her return.

Auggy (TSgtBenson): No news.

Banshee Aqua (Banshee Aqua): No news.

Carmine (TaciturnMerc): No news.

Carolyn Ariana Valkonan (DreamsInBurgundy): As of two weeks ago... Seems to be getting ready for soccer practice, with as much as she's kicking...also, she's been giving her mother cravings for steak, pickles, and chocolate mocha chip ice cream.

As of this past week... She is still very squirmy, and there is less and less room! Her mother's trips to the bathroom are so frequent she's been having ideas to set up shop in there. Likely it will not be long now before this child is ready to greet the world herself!

Cassiel (InvertedDarkness): No news.

Chaus (Wake up caIl): No news.

D (Duncan H Harper): No news. Potentially still MIA.

Deputy Marshall Wynter (Rachael Wynter): The scarred law woman in black continues to investigate various crime sprees. Rachael was present at the Silver Moon Inn on New Year's Day to arrest the perpetrator of various body organs being left at the Silver Moon Inn and the murderer of Halavar (SMI Halavar). The deputy spent the New Year holiday divided between performing her duties and with a very special person in her life. Since then there has been no news of her whereabouts.

Dris (BardGaIIant): No news.

Dr. Newborn (Nigel Newborn): No news since last time.

Doctor Maranya Tatiana Valkonan (Maranya Valkonan): Even with tending to her patients as usual, such as monitoring Don's (DonatelIo Harada) ongoing medical conditions and patching Seamus (Seamus Wylie) up after his encounter with a knife around the New Year holiday, the good Doctor found time to celebrate the New Year itself in a very special and happy way. That plus her duties have kept Maranya busy and as a result she didn't appear in public at all this past week. Since that time two weeks ago, there has been no news on her whereabouts.

Ehzoterik VonArcanum Tempestas (Ehzoterik): No news.

Elaine (Elaine Aqua): The most adorable little girl in the entire Multiverse still has a temporary hiatus from very bad dreams. Is it actually temporary afterall?

Erasimus Greene (PersistanceTime): No news.

Faye: She Who Tends the Dead (Faye Random): Hibernating.

Fox Pepper (Rings Twice): No news.

Fury (ReversedHaIo): No news.

Gem (Gemethyst): As of two weeks ago, Gem has taking up knitting. Granted, the scarf she is making looks more like a drunken spider's web, but she is determined to finish it and to improve. She is TRYING to be a good little pregnant mother these days. Besides getting in the way of someone trying to drug a friend of hers, and helping a few folk that are down and out financially, she had a quiet week. Yay! Pleione has vacated her home to be with Kakabel, or so she is assuming, as the cat is gone. She has not run into him since that surprise appearance at the MT. All is well with her, other than some dizzy spells, but she has an appointment with her doctor to check those out.

As far as last week is concerned, Gem has been having some problems of late, with dizziness and fainting. Her doctor, Nathan, saw her and told her she has low blood pressure and anemia He is giving her meds and has ordered her to rest on her left side several times a day. She will be fine. She has had several warnings in the last week that she could be a target for harm, because of who she is friends with and who she has helped, not to mention the ones whose personal enmity she has incurred. A busy week.

Jack Bishop (Jackrabbit Blue): The Valkonan Ranch gardener was out and about last week after he finally met the Good Doctor's (Maranya Valkonan) nephew Stephen face to face. Jack had only seen him in a passing glance when the young doctor dropped 'Anya off at home, but since that time they actually had a chance to speak. That sort of luck came in the event of Jack running into Stephen (Stephen Valkonan) outside of the Red Dragon Inn and rushing him up into the Keep as swiftly as possible. For some reason Jack thought it his personal duty to Keep the Doctor's nephew safe, and he did as much as he was able to do so. After fatedly running across what he presumed to be a video game lookalike and a movie monster brought to life, he made a hasty retreat back to the Ranch. He hasn't been out since.

Jade (Irreverent Jade): As of two weeks ago... Overwhelmed and horrified by the revelations of her elementals, the Earth Master has quietly lost all hold on her sanity. Declared legally insane (and apparently uncaring to dissuade others of that fact), a number of her assets were put up for sale. Jade herself was released into the custody of one Randall Woods (Elaborate Guns), purportedly her adoptive father. The pair seem to have disappeared without a trace. The Bamboo, Jade's restaurant, has been put up for sale.

Johan (Johan the Hunter): No news.

Kakabel (FrameworkMemento): It is presumed that the amnesiatic fallen angel is still spending his days in the monastery. Perhaps he has been constantly meditating, for there is no other news than that. No changes.

Kevin (Kevin N Summers): No news.

Kymeera: The Nightmare Keeper (The Dream Warden): No news.

Mallora (Ma11ora): No news.

Matriel (Rarefied Rain): No news.

Melly (Melanie Wyndham): The shy relief baker and counter help at Ariana's Divine Delights Bakery continues to await the appearance of Management to submit her application to tend at the Silver Moon Inn in person to guarantee that the application is delivered properly this time. The shy blond had a very enjoyable New Year's celebration. Since that time there has been no news of her whereabouts.

Mesteno (Bronze Mesteno): No news.

Mestrangelo (MestrangeIo): As of two weeks ago... This week saw the purveyor once again facing down the dark imposing figure, who was overheard to be introduced as "Kouji" (The Improper God). While the conversation seemed more calm this time around (though just as untranslatable)... well, no chat could be calm and peaceful with a word like "mordus" being batted around. Kouji took his leave of Mestrangelo with the only words bystanders could understand. "You should watch your back. Something wicked this way comes..."

Mithril/Gadreel/Lusus (ASaintOfSinners): No news.

Mozart (AmadaeusFelidae): No news.

Ophelia (EspressoBlues): No news.

Parhi Grimjaws (The Multifarious): As for personal growth, Parhi is taking steps to learn more about her draconic ancestry, if she has one. Other words concerning other characters under the same name are as follows: "Look for the reappearance of Hmte, in force, and a new menace in the form of a pack of man-eating giants in the north. I'm kind of looking around for a romance angle for Horned Hunter, of all people. Kulkem might begin to reappear, and Twelve has been awfully silent lately too... look for your favorite nine foot tall trollkin to put in some time at the Inn."

Ramiel (Ember Shade): As of two weeks ago... Outside of the coffee shop, he's been spending time in and out of Limbo. He works rather hard at keeping himself unseen, as if he's up to something, and well he may be. He seems to have made a rather large purchase recently, but the goods have yet to be revealed...

This past week, he has been seen buying lumber and paint, as well as frequenting antiques and oddities shoppes.. Why the former archangel would want these things is unknown.

Rei (AmethystStarfall): No news.

Rekah (Rekah Dravina): No news.

Revari: The Daydream Weaver (KaleidoscopeWhim): No news.

Robin (Robin Kalahola): Robin is still missing and there are no leads in the case. He has been declared legally dead. Same story as it was two weeks ago. Nothing new.

Rose (Electrum Rose): As of two weeks ago... Hasn't been seen for a while. Presumably things are developing normally...

This past week, she has been busy making a baby afghan. Go figure.

Seamus Wylie (Seamus Wylie): It's been an eventful couple of weeks for Seamus. He nearly became the last victim of the SMI's organ-donor killer, but instead managed to walk out of the situation with just a nasty cut to the back of his neck. As if that wasn't enough activity to contend with, he and Cat (Matakhat Cain) found a runaway slave (A Stray Rose) in the SMI's kitchen a few nights later. Seamus talked her out of running any further and took her home with him, but all is not well just yet. On Friday night, young Rufus Osbourne visited the SMI, while Seamus was tending bar and Rose, the runaway, was hiding out in the kitchen until he was done. Rufus, as it turns out, is Rose's owner, and caught sight of the girl during his visit. A ruckus ensued, which ended when Morgan Knight (Morgan Rampage) chased Rufus out of the area and Stephen Valkonan drove Rose, Seamus, and his aunt Maranya (Maranya Valkonan) back to Northedge, where more facts came to light. Like the one about Seamus not legally being a free man, but a runaway himself, who could be taken back to a life of slavery if he's caught...and the fact that Cat's family had all but promised her to marry Rufus Osbourne.

Stephen Valkonan (Stephen Valkonan): As of two weeks ago... Newly arrived in Rhy'din, the future of the Valkonan family set about making himself known in style--that is, driving his 2022 Mustang Cobra. He spent the evening at the Silver Moon Inn, getting to know the locals, albeit briefly, working on his car, and drinking copious amounts of caffeinated beverages.

As of this past week... It would seem he's been getting in quite a bit of trouble! Perhaps this is due to the seeming pursuit of his best friend, Morgan "Rampage" Knight (Morgan Rampage)? Or maybe it's because he's fallen in with the Northedge Academy fellows, most notably Matakhat Cain? In any case he has had a very busy week, helping keep escaped slaves free, repairing cars, and fighting his own fellows in an attempt to keep Morgan's sword out of the wrong hands. He considers himself lucky he doesn't attend school, because he has no idea how he would keep everything straight.

Suriel (Thirteenthchange): No news.

Sydney and Donatello Harada (SmileFang, DonatalIo Harada): Sit back. Get comfortable. This could take a while. It seems the harder the couple tries to stay out of trouble, the more they attract. This last week alone, on their vacation no less, Don and Sydney have successfully managed to attract the attention of a "ghost", harbor a runaway slave, and get beaten. Now to explain all that. A "ghost" ran Don and Sydney out after it's second appearance in their apartment. While they've yet to see a figure, they have managed to have their water turned off and on in the faucet, their shower go haywire, and everything electrical blip off and on in turns...including an unplugged TV. That's currently residing below the Harada's window. Four floors down, and in pieces. It seems that Don's brother, after his so recent escape from the Organ Killer, has also taken in a runaway slave. Of course...Seamus is kind of a "runaway" himself. Meaning if Don had hair, those he associates himself with would have made him lose it by now anyway. The turtle has the stress levels of the Golden Gate Bridge. Not only that, he's been beaten, it appears. Not a whole lot being said about that, but it seems someone certainly got the drop on the turtle. He's sporting an injured shoulder, a split lip, and identical bar bruises across the palm of each hand. Like he tried to catch something at high speeds. Other than that, the two seem to have figured out their place on the Rhydin social scale, and have settled into a kind of calm, considering their normally high strung natures.

The Dark Wanderer (SN TBA): Perhaps you recall this from a previous issue. As of the past two weeks? No news.

The Rev (Rev DiabIo): No news.

Troy (Troy Embry): No news.

Vadriel (Vadriel de Guise): No news.

Valleana (Va11eana): No news.

Wilhelm "Dozer" Braun (SMI Dozer): No news.

Yoshi (KitsuneNineTails): No news.
