Ubique's Weekly A Mutual Endeavors Publication Issue #22 ~ 19 January 2004 The Blurb Greetings and salutations to all our loyal Ubique's readers! I don't even know where to begin to emphasize my elation. Over the past week I've received an intense abundance of e-mails from a handful of you striving to fill us all in on the news that has been going on in character land. It definitely is a great start for the New Year. My intense thanks to all of you who have striven to remain collaborative. We couldn't enjoy ourselves without the efforts towards cooperation that you all are making. So thank you, again and again and again. Keep up the great work! I'll not bore you with an extensive introduction. Let's just get on with the news, shall we?
This Just In Most of our news this week can be found in the individual Character Updates, but that doesn't mean we don't have other combined stories to tell. Of course, you're better off just taking a look for yourself. Headlines An Ant Incursion: Friday night, Hmte attacked the SMI yet again, and was repulsed by, among others wielding guns and swords, Mestrangelo and Black Xaje, who annihilated one soldier and about a dozen workers. As the remaining scout ants disappeared, the pheromonal message that resonated through the air was, "Threats there, some of them observed, next generation must have greater visual acuity, faster reflexes, resistance to corrosives, and more independent intelligence. And reshaped for opportunistic advantages -- the threats seem to take a single form." Best of the Best: Last week Our Top Story detailed to you all a survey being held by our colleagues over at

. The survey in question happens to be a contest striving to discover the Best of the Best from 2003. Details can be found in Issue number 21, but do not forget to send in your votes. Don't delay! All ballots should be sent in no later than January 20, 2003. Why, that's tomorrow! One of our other dedicated readers informed the editing staff that you cannot vote for yourself or any of your various characters. As disappointing as they may be, it is justifiable in its own rights. We wouldn't want to be biased now would we? So if you haven't yet, now would be the perfect time to send in your votes! Mysteries of Missing Persons: There have been quite a number of missing persons (and felines) reports being placed with local authorities over the past several months. Among them, we have here a firsthand account of a recent occurrence. At some point last week a figure in a stereotypical dark cloak with hood came into the Inn and just paused in the middle of the room. Didn't move further, didn't respond to people talking to it, just stood there. People tried to bug it and look up the hood and talk to it and get in its face, but nothing. Zelphina (XZelphina) finally moved to poke it, and it grabbed her by the throat and disappeared in a blink. She's been missing ever since. A little background... Zelphina is this cute little blond number that is one of Ariana's heart daughters, by virtue of her heartson Johan adopting her. In recent weeks, however, Johan gave up the adoption in favor of a more romantic relationship, and they became an item. Now she's disappeared and has been missing for about a week and a half. In Other News... Tons and tons and tons of individual Character Updates this week. I'm so overwhelmed that I can't stop bouncing up and down with glee! Keep 'em coming, everybody! Oh, and on a side note, for those of you who have character LiveJournals, I do take the time to read through them. So if you don't remember to get news to me through good old-fashioned e-mail, chances are I can find it on those journals. That is, if you're willing to allow me to use said information. Let me know. Ahriman (TheAngraMaiynu): He has a new hobby. Be afraid. Aldous the Axe (SMI Axe): No news this week. Anna (AriannaRavenwood): The blue sister, along with her husband Galen (Galen Ravenwood) and son Brion, is still spending time at her husband's clan lands with her twin sister and her immediate family. Ariana (ArianaMacGyldren): The green sister, along with her husband Galen (Galen MacGyldren) and daughter Elaine (Elaine Aqua), also is still at her husband and brother in law's clan lands. Ariana made a brief appearance at the Silver Moon Inn this past week to touch base with her friends. Auggy (TSgtBenson): No news this week. Banshee Aqua (Banshee Aqua): No news this week. Calypso (Lady Proudfoot): Bored with tuna, she has switched her preferences to the desire of some really high class turkey souffle. Carmine (TaciturnMerc): He has made various "missing cat" posters so that strangers can help locate the missing Mozart. He has politely asked Dris not to take any of them down. Carolyn Ariana Valkonan (DreamsInBurgundy): No news this week. Cassiel (InvertedDarkness): He and his brother Anael are said to have found a serene location and sang before a peaceful audience. Chaus (Wake up caIl): No news this week. Colleen MacLeod (PrlUnicorn): She hasn't been seen in public much of late. She is staying home to tend to her husband, Ithildirnen (Ithildirnen), and seven children, ranging in age from three months to twelve years, that still live at home. D (Duncan H Harper): News is ... Seems the mysterious Spider-Man of Rhydin has had some sort of surgery done. That might explain why he's been missing for the past month, but our researchers haven't exactly been able to pinpoint him and ask direct questions. Not that any of them are really brave enough to ask him questions directly. He'd probably slaughter them for finding the information they have found anyway! Diana Lasher (Fragile Fury): She tends to stay to the spaceport side of Rhydin, but was seen before the holiday season in the Silver Moon making some sort of arrangements with Ariana. Perhaps, she plans to be around more to keep an eye on the ant horde from the skies. Deputy Marshall Wynter (Rachael Wynter): The scarred law woman in black continues to investigate various crime sprees. That's kept her too busy to appear in public this past week. Doctor Maranya Tatiana Valkonan (Maranya Valkonan): She's tending to her patients as usual. Maranya was called to treat Rose (A Stray Rose) for grievous injuries suffered during Rose's recent capture. That plus her usual duties have kept the good Doctor busy and as a result she didn't appear in public at all this past week. Dris (BardGaIIant): Having thusfar successfully resisted every urge to tear down all of Carmine's "missing cat" posters, Dris decided one early morning that he needed to get out of the house. Listening to Carmine worry over the stupid cat was just too much. So he dropped by the Silver Moon Inn one early morning, after thieving the Spaniard's coat, to see what was going on. There he met a mysterious gentleman by the name of Yosarian (Yosarian Sikk). The elderly man seemed quite impressed with the bard's talent for music and instruments. Since then, however, Dris hasn't ventured out. Though lately he has been considering it due to the fact that all he hears about at home is "Where could Mozart be?" Dr. Newborn (Nigel Newborn): No news this week. Ehzoterik VonArcanum Tempestas (Ehzoterik): Ehz finally made an appearance this past week by bursting through the closet door of the Medieval Tavern. She handed out extra special love to her friends Mesteno (Bronze Mesteno) and Gem (Gemethyst), as well as took the time to make some new friends. One in particular was gifted with a red swirly straw from Ehz's personal collection. Sammy (Angel of Edom) wanted to adopt her as a sister after that. Ehz reported to Gem that she had been playing a game of Hide and Go Seek in which no one bothered to look for her. Chances are she's dashed off to hide again since Mesteno is the next in line to be It. Elaine (Elaine Aqua): The most adorable little girl in the entire Multiverse's bad dreams have started up again. Erasimus Greene (PersistanceTime): He is contemplating working on a new project. Be really afraid. Faye: She Who Tends the Dead (Faye Random): Hibernating. Fox Pepper (Rings Twice): No news this week. Fury (ReversedHaIo): No news this week. Gem (Gemethyst): No news this week. Jack Bishop (Jackrabbit Blue): Bunny boy took the chance to venture out into public earlier this week, though once again he highly regretted it. He ran into Mestrangelo at the Red Dragon Inn Keep and was disappointed in the lack of conversation. He also "met" a couple of vicious girls who seemed intent on turning him into breakfast. His luck isn't what it used to be lately, that's for sure. Jade (Irreverent Jade): Enjoying her time in the asylum. Johan (Johan the Hunter): No news this week. Kakabel (FrameworkMemento): He is still meditating on the mysteries of the universe. Kevin (Kevin N Summers): No news this week. Kymeera: The Nightmare Keeper (The Dream Warden): No sightings of the Nightmare Keeper in a long time. Let's hope it stays that way. Mallora (Ma11ora): No news this week. Matriel (Rarefied Rain): No news this week. Melly (Melanie Wyndham): The shy relief baker and counter help at Ariana's Divine Delights Bakery found out she's been hired to tend at the Silver Moon Inn. She hasn't done so yet. Merriam "Heavy Metal" Harris, Captain, USAF (Retired) (Heavy Metal Mer): The Virtual Adept has been keeping herself busy, even with most of that being neck-deep in technology, thanks to things going down on her version of Earth. Most recently she visited Gemethyst in the Red Dragon Inn's Keep. She's agreed, again, to be the godmother to Gem's child--assuming she could be kept from the position. Also, there's been a strange temporal anomaly showing up on the Wing's scanners. Mer is keeping an eye on these strange readings...and wondering what they could mean... Mesteno (Bronze Mesteno): No news this week. Mestrangelo (MestrangeIo): Several times over the past week, the purveyor has been heard educating people on the finer points of xenomorph distinction -- namely the difference between her "companion" Xaje and any other creature they might just happen to run across. The silver chain around its neck is the key. Though the one she was courting earlier, a smaller white creature, didn't seem to have one of those... There's been no further sign of Kouji to disturb Mestrangelo's evenings, but that doesn't mean things are anywhere close to peaceful. Peaceful.. in Rhydin? Mithril/Gadreel/Lusus (ASaintOfSinners): Mithril has been quite busy burying himself with work. He was a recent witness to the aftermath of a riot that took place in one of the less savory areas of town. Other than that, he has not been seen much as he has been taking care of personal matters. Mozart (AmadaeusFelidae): Still missing. Nicole Brock Anorlasvessë (Nicole E Brock): She's been stone hunting again. Nikki was recently spotted handing over some sample gemstones to Loranthias (Loranthias) for his perusal. Loran and Nicole's lifemate, Anorlas (AnorIas), are working on the prow for the ship belonging to Thorm (GuthormOthinsson). Ophelia (EspressoBlues): She is rather curious as to what Ra's mysterious activities are, but has decided not to bother him about it just yet. Guessing is half of the fun. Parhi Grimjaws (The Multifarious): No News this week. Pleione (Stellar Balinese): Still watching over her Kakabel. Rachael MacLeod (RachaeI MacLeod): Recently, she has been seen keeping company with Sulrin (SMI Sulrin). Hard to say if it's a romance in bloom or a debating match. Ramiel (Ember Shade): No news this week. Rei (AmethystStarfall): Still growing. Bet his mother cannot wait for him to be born! Hm? Is that wasabi? Rekah (Rekah Dravina): No news this week. Revari: The Daydream Weaver (KaleidoscopeWhim): No sightings of the Daydream Weaver either. Everything's been quiet in fae land. Rhiannon Brock (Rhiannon D Brock): Rhiannon hasn't been seen since Joker's (SMI Joker) last tending shift. Robin (Robin Kalahola): No news this week. Rose (Electrum Rose): No news this week. Seamus Wylie (Seamus Wylie): Seamus has had an eventful week, just like his last few have been. It got severely eventful when mercenaries and members of the Rhydin police force invaded Northedge Academy to take back Rose (A Stray Rose), the runaway slave he had been harboring. Seamus himself was subdued in the attack and taken to prison, for harboring Rose, assaulting a guard, and being under suspicion of being a runaway himself. With the under-the-table help of Sam (Sgt Sam Riley), Don got him back out. Rose took a few days to get back, but word is she's safe now, if badly injured, and best of all...free. Stephen Valkonan (Stephen Valkonan): As usual, he has been busy, currently with his new job as teaching assistant in Physics and Chemistry at Northedge Academy. He has other workings to occupy his time as well. Most recently he took an emergency jaunt back to Pittsburgh after his best friend (Morgan Rampage) was attacked by werewolves. Now it would seem plans are being made to retrieve the sword they stole, an heirloom from Morgan's mother... Suriel (Thirteenthchange): No news this week. Sydney and Donatello Harada (SmileFang, DonatalIo Harada): The "pair of maniacs," as they were once dubbed in this very publication, have not been too manaical this week. At least, not in the public eye. Just getting shot at (Sydney), rescuing Seamus from jail (Don), buying a slave into freedom (both of them, with Cat's help), and falling out of the rafters at the SMI in various states of undress on Sunday night (definitely both of them. Definitely not with anyone else's help). All right. That last one was in the public eye. Very much in the public eye, to their chagrin. Terrance Tomar-Duncan (Terrance Tomar): Terrance has been rather sequestered of late, after a frenzy of shopping activity that had him making purchases at electronics stores, lapidary shops, lumberyards, and even the mall. He is rarely at his parents' house anymore, having moved his alchemical/magical workshop to an old industrial neighborhood somewhere outside the city proper. He may have been out and about with Mithril earlier this week, the day after a deadly riot erupted in one of Rhydin's ghettos (city law enforcement attributed the riot to a particularly virulent street drug). The Rev (Rev DiabIo): No news this week. Troy (Troy Embry): No news this week. Vadriel (Vadriel de Guise): No news this week. Valleana (Va11eana): No news this week. Wilhelm "Dozer" Braun (SMI Dozer): No news this week. Yoshi (KitsuneNineTails): Yoshi has been seen every now and then tormenting hapless passersby and bumming car rides off them to the middle of a field. Why that particular field is something that has yet to be revealed. Classifieds Mutual Endeavors and Ubique's Weekly would like to invite all our readers to become a part of a Rhydin-wide phenomenon that has long since slipped under the noses of the populace. For those of you who remember the good old days of AOL's message boards, we would like to remind one and all that nothing is ever completely lost in this day and age. Perhaps one way that we can all achieve our goals of keeping our storylines on the same track is to make use of this forgotten treasure. Therefore, it is our great pleasure to direct everyone's attention to the existence of Ariana's Divine Delights Bakery. With the creator's permission, we are welcoming one and all to read, write, and enjoy the glory that is storytelling through the use of message boards. May the entertainment continuously flow in unison with those overwhelming waves of creative juices! * * * Ubique's Weekly is a publication provided by the not-for-profit organization known as Mutual Endeavors.
