Ubique's Weekly A Mutual Endeavors Publication Issue #24 ~ 2 February 2004 The Blurb Happy Groundhog's Day, one and all! Word on the street is that once again the groundhog saw his shadow. We all know what that means. The natural order of things will continue on as it always has. Six more weeks of winter. What a surprise! You are all no likely wondering why this week's issue of UW is being put together and sent out late. There is no better explanation other than the fact that I've been anti-computer the past couple of days. Hypersomnia and insomnia all in two days time. It hasn't been fun. But all the role-playing I've gotten done in the past week has been. I'll just bore you all with silly little details. So let's get this issue on the road.
Storyline Spotlight The concept and response was an overall success with last week's issue. It took a lot of begging and persuading on my part to get another location description, but we did! Last week we detailed to you all the intricacies of Northedge and Northedge Academy. Much thanks go out to the Mutual Endeavors player SmileFang for the contribution. This week we're bringing to you another in depth description of one of the local Rhydin areas, provided to us by the ME player ArianaMacGyldren. That's two examples of excellent collaborative efforts in just two short weeks. Hopefully we can provide you all with another for next week. Who knows? We might even be able to improve upon the world and city Rhydin maps with all of these wonderful definitions. So it is with great joy that we present to you all for your reading pleasure, information concerning Rhydin's very own... Ariana's Divine Delights Bakery is located in the Western side of Old Rhydin Town, one of the many shops along the cobblestone streets. Among its neighbors are MacGyldren Woodcrafts, owned by Ariana MacGyldren's husband Galen (Galen MacGyldren) and Aldo's Restaurant. The Bakery itself is a rather impressive brick structure with a picture window across the front of the shop, save for the front door, which allows passersby to see the displayed baked goods and candies made fresh daily from the street and large windows on either side of the rear kitchen area to allow passersby to observe the bakers at work. Inside there is a large stone hearth with comfortable chairs and tables around to allow customers to relax and eat in comfort. There are also stools at the long teakwood and glass fronted display counter for additional customers. All of the glass-fronted display cabinets and other woodworking craftsmanship in the Bakery was done by Ariana's husband Galen and her brother in law Galen and paid for by a mysterious benefactor. There is no sign of the massive vandalism done to the bakery around Yule 2001. Among the employees of Divine Delights Bakery are Allison (Allison Reynor), Ariana's sister and CO-owner of the Bakery; Melly (Melanie Wyndham), the main counter help and relief baker; Troy (Troy Embry), the main deliveryman for the Tech sector and Ariana's nephew; Joey (Joey M Masters), the main deliveryman for the rest of the area and Ariana's heartson; Ivae (Ivaekiir), one of the taste-testers for the bakery; Cat (Matakhat Cain), another taste-tester for the baker and Sheldon, the accountant for the bakery. The Bakery is kept busy year round producing the finest baked goods and candies in town and along with Aldo's Restaurant, catering many important social events, including the recent Rhydin Family Charities fundraiser. On a side note, Ariana's Divine Delights bakery can be accessed by paying a visit to the message board and writing up some story action. We have listed the link to the message board several times in our Advertisements section, but as of yet to see any action going on on the boards. Your characters eat breakfast don't they? Maybe you should have them drop by some time for a pastry or two. This Just InOnce again I can tell you that I never expected as many updates as I received. I'm shocked and overwhelmed, but most of all I'm ecstatic. Of course as you know, each story speaks for itself so I won't pile unnecessary blabbering on top of you. Here are this week's... Headlines Aliens: The Rhydin Encounter: A hive of xenomorphs (ElegantLethality) attacked the Silver Moon Monday morning, and was repulsed by Mestrangelo, Kan Vata (The Kan Vata), a fire mage named Corlaiys (Corlaiys), and a young white dragon named Shiver (The Multifarious). The encounter was hotly fought, thanks especially to Corlaiys, and may have been a harbinger of things to come. Bunny Boom: Local residents have sent in several more complaints concerning an overpopulation of the hare variety in Rhydin. Yes, still rabbits. The most recent incident being a flood that overwhelmed the Medieval Tavern earlier this week. Witnesses all claim that one minute they were enjoying an afternoon coffee, and the next the floor was virtually a sea of hormonal rabbits. If this keeps up, we're going to have to call in an exterminator. Or even a pied piper, whom local residents think does exist. One local man at the scene seemed to have been trying to talk to the rabbits to find out why they were invading the Tavern. When frustration got the better of him and he tried to leave, witnesses say the hoard followed him out into the streets. Whether this was a desired effect or not is still yet to be determined, but maybe this young man is the key to free the city of the infestation. Flu Season: Reports have come in from the outskirts of the East end slums; several fatalities occurred this week, the results of an as-yet unidentified virus resembling Ebola Hemorrhagic Fever. City health workers are attempting to locate the infectious origin of the outbreak. Thirteen citizens have been lost to the virus thus far, with no reported recoveries. More Public Persecutions: The armored men continue to survey about Rhydin, in what appears to be a circular pattern that draws tighter and tighter about the SMI. They have been brusque and abusive toward those that would approach them as ever, and now have been seen kicking small, fuzzy bunnies that keep managing to hop across their paths. Restructuring the SMI: Apparently the cellar of the Silver Moon Inn is not subject to the 'self-repair' feature of the rest of the building, or perhaps it just seemed a bit fragile to him, but Twelve the Grikkyn took it upon himself to reinforce the floor since the attack of Hmte last week. His work is crude, but quite solid. As a result, there is now so much timber reinforcing the floor and walls of the cellar that there is barely enough room to store things. Whoops... Time-Space Fluctuations: A recent report came in earlier this week from an unknown corner of the Multiverse. It is said a men's bathroom in an inter-dimensional rest stop suddenly sprouted up a series of graffiti messages. Among these scrawls it is noted to have been written that "For a good time call Annael," "For a good time call Kakabel ... wear body armor," and "For a really good time call Ramiel." No one knows for certain who wrote these messages. Rest-stop caretakers claim that between the hours these messages were apparently written there had been no visitors. Speculations claim that this anomaly might carefully be linked to the recent series of Time and Space fluctuations that have been occurring as of late. In Other News...Looks like my threat letter worked once again, and I'm amazed. Hehehe. Most of the updates I received for this past week were once again individual Character Updates, but it's all good. The more the merrier, no matter where they end up on the newsletter. So get crackin' and send me more! As for now, here is what's been happening with all the characters we know and love (and sometimes hate). Ahriman (TheAngraMaiynu): Unknown. The reporter sent to check on him never returned. Aldous the Axe (SMI Axe): No news this week. Alexander Woods (Terra Nephilim): Nothing new in the womb. Andrea Knight (Gaian Rampage): After discovering she still has a brother, the young Glass Walker has been introduced to life in Rhydin. She thinks it's very confusing, especially after her first meeting with Jack (Jackrabbit Blue). However, she quickly got snookered into going along with a prank--oh, all right, she was all for it after finding out the particulars. Artie Schleckener's car will never be the same... Anna (AriannaRavenwood): The blue sister, along with her husband Galen (Galen Ravenwood) and son Brion, remains at her husband's clan lands with her twin sister and her immediate family. Ariana (ArianaMacGyldren): The green sister, along with her husband Galen (Galen MacGyldren) and daughter Elaine (Elaine Aqua), continues to reside at her husband and brother in law's clan lands. Ariana made an appearance at the Silver Moon Inn this past week with a few of her canines (Fritzs Pack) to touch base with her friends and encountered a ghostly apparition of her late first husband. While in town, she also learned from her heartson Neko (Jibudoka Neko) that her youngest son Banshee (Banshee Aqua) was killed defending a monastery from orcs. The green sister has been in private mourning ever since. Arienh Crowther-Driscol (Arienh Driscol): The young magess has made plans to return to celebrate the occasion of her father's birthing-day. Auggy (TSgtBenson): Helped fight off the recent Metroid invasion on the SMI. Went on a date with Irina. Details still pending. Calypso (Lady Proudfoot): Now she is missing too! Is someone stealing cats? Captain Merriam "Heavy Metal" Harris, USAF (Retired) (Heavy Metal Mer): She's been busy taking care of things on the other side of the Gauntlet this week, back in Pittsburgh. Basically another attempt at repossessing the Wing was foiled. Ho hum. Carmine (TaciturnMerc): Considering taking up a job that deals with clearing out huge ants from some storage sheds near the SMI. Cassiel (InvertedDarkness): Been with Vadriel relaxing until he found out that his cat is gone. Hopes she will return soon, but is not going to worry yet. Chase LeMonde (Chase LeMonde): The Marshall's back in town. Fate decided that it would be a good time for him to test out his guns when he decided to pay a visit to the Silver Moon Inn. As luck would have it, at the time there was a Metroid invasion assaulting the Inn. Though he would have preferred to sit around and enjoy a good drink, the chaos became too much and eventually he went out to join the fray. Thankfully the battle was a success and with an assortment of help from many different sides the Metroids were done away with. Does this mean Rhydin's favorite Cajun will be around more often? Only time will tell. Chaus (Wake up caIl): There's been an absolute lack of news on Chaus lately -- probably for a few reasons. But our chain smoking ex-vampire was last seen a week ago, wandering some of the more murky streets of Rhydin. Rumor has it that Mr. Malikie is in some serious trouble again. Then again ... what else can we expect? Colleen MacLeod (PrlUnicorn): No news this week. Corey (Corey Elfkin, Corey Elfkinn): No news this week. D (Duncan H Harper): Out and about. Doing what he usually did before he was gone as if nothing strange has happened at all. To him or the Rhydin community. Diana Lasher (Fragile Fury): No news this week. Deputy Marshall Wynter (Rachael Wynter): The scarred law woman in black continues to investigate various crime sprees. Once again, that's kept her too busy to appear in public this past week. Doctor Maranya Tatiana Valkonan (Maranya Valkonan): She's tending to her patients as usual. The good Doctor took a break from her usual duties and visited the Silver Moon Inn, meeting with her nephew Stephen (Stephen Valkonan) and getting soundly teased in the process by Dris (SMI Dris). She made a house call to treat Rose (A Stray Rose) and examine Seamus (Seamus Wylie) but due to certain circumstances surrounding Rose's illness, she didn't stay to socialize after treating Rose, nor did she get to examine Seamus. Drake Valkonan (Drake Valkonan): The Scientist met a nephew this week, much to his surprise, since Stephen Valkonan is barely a toddler in Drake's timeline. But this is Rhydin, so such things are unusually usual, and the two quickly made common cause. Dris (BardGaIIant): There's been an increasing amount of activity on the bard's part. Perhaps he's getting far too bored at home to stay in with Carmine working all the time on finding Mozart and other hired jobs. Whatever the case, he's been seen opening the Silver Moon Inn early a few times this past week. By doing so he has reacclimatized himself with the Rhydin populace and met a few new friendly faces. Among them are Cat (Matakhat Cain), who is insistent on ensuring his prostate remains healthy. She has also offered to give him a handful of things she no longer needs. He also met the good Doctor Maranya Valkonan (Maranya Valkonan), a prime candidate to test out his rusty flirting techniques. With all the blush she had rising, they must still be working well. Also, he met the good Doctor's nephew Stephen (Stephen Valkonan). Maybe he should get out more often. He misses the social life. Dr. Newborn (Nigel Newborn): No news this week. Ehzoterik VonArcanum Tempestas (Ehzoterik): Still giving baby bunnies to new homes. She also popped her head into the Silver Moon this past week by way of the closet door to warn people of the coming of a fat baby with wings. Chances are she has something planned for the coming Valentine's Day. Elaine (Elaine Aqua): The most adorable little girl in the entire Multiverse's bad dreams have finally ceased. A very grateful Elaine, helped by her mother, is busy baking batches of cinnamon rolls for her benefactor. Emmy (Empress Grayfur): She can relax once again and resume being Elaine's favorite playmate companion. Now that all that nasty nightmare business is over and done with. Erasimus Greene (PersistanceTime): Still collecting hairpins from women. And recently he decided to help Gem out with her little childbearing nuisance by transporting her to the future so that she could give birth. See Gem's update below for more details. Faye: She Who Tends the Dead (Faye Random): Hibernating. Fox Pepper (Rings Twice): Still unemployed. Fury (ReversedHaIo): No news this week. Gem (Gemethyst): Well, Gem the typical Rhydinian has been able to stay out of trouble for the last week. Amazing, eh? She best find some or lose her elite "Rhydinan" status. We don't want that. Oh, no. She is still pregnant. She finished the scarf she knitted for Ganon. Could not give it to him as he took off to finish something. He is back, but does not remember her. Goodness. That makes two men she has loved that don't remember her. Who knows what is ahead for the troublesome, forgettable elfess? Time will tell. No assassins have burst from hidden corners, no poison has been delivered in infernal pastries. She is enjoying the quiet and is once again dwelling in her manor. Most recently, through a weird set of circumstances, the Thief of Time sent Gem forward into the future by a month or two, whereupon, Gem went into labor and had her baby with the help of Shiloh, her friend. Then, the Thief pulled her back into current time, along with the babe, and so she has now been delivered of a healthy baby Rei. Kaleb Elemmiire Rei is the child's name. He has silvery-white hair, dusky skin, cloudy purple eyes and the cutest set of dark gray wings. She is delighted to no longer be pregnant and is enjoying her new motherhood. The babe is being watched over by Cassiel and has four Godparents. Mer, Mesteno, Mestrangelo and Ryan Malirecci. Many to love, nurture and train him up in the way he should go. Huzzzaaaaahhhh! Irina Braeden (Irina Braeden): In this week's installment, Irina's lost one job, gotten a new job, moved out of one place, moved to another place, moved out of there and back to the first place, nearly been attacked by Metroids twice, gone out on a date, hits the local inns most every night and yet she still finds time to work on the next issue of Bright Suns. All in all, a pretty typical week for this native Rhydin resident. Stay tuned. Jack Bishop (Jackrabbit Blue): Jack has been more active than a rabbit in springtime this past week. With it being winter and all, he really doesn't have much work to take care of at the ranch. Though on occasion he has been building lovely snow sculptures for Doc 'Anya (Maranya Valkonan) to see in her lawn. He met Morgan's (Morgan Rampage) sister Andrea (Gaian Rampage) and recruited her into helping him teach Irina's (Irina Braeden) boss Artie Fartie a valuable lesson. What that lesson was is uncertain as there were no warnings left at the scene of the crime. A crime involving the vandalizing of Artie Schleckener's car. One of the best pranks he has ever pulled. All thanks to the help of his girlfriend (Nerissa Siallie), Clawed (Gaian Rampage), and Irina's witnessing attempt through gails of laughter. He still is convinced that he should've been there for the prank against Don and Syd, but unfortunately he had slept through the entire ordeal. Jade (Irreverent Jade): Still only registering Elementals. Jeremy Alexander Aqua (Banshee Aqua): Deceased. Johan (Johan the Hunter): He hasn't been seen since he went after Reynard to talk to him about Elaine's nightmares. Kakabel (FrameworkMemento): He stirred from his bed with a shout one evening, disturbed from strange nightmares involving the birth of a child. A child that seemed strangely familiar to him, yet he could not figure out just how. What was even stranger is that he usually doesn't dream at all. So maybe it was a vision. Kevin (Kevin N Summers): No news this week. Kymeera: The Nightmare Keeper (The Dream Warden): No news this week. Mallora (Ma11ora): No news this week. Matakhat Cain (Matakhat Cain): A little late night spectral visit from Carreen Osbourne, of the Osbournes who perished in a fire last week. It's got her spooked, all right, and she's dealing with it by convincing herself it's a dream and not a haunting. Also, a prank gone bad. Cat and Stephen Valkonan, dressed in questionable attire were to surprise Don by hiding in the men's room of the SMI and having him find them there, presumably in the act. A spoof on Don and Syd's little rafter action weeks earlier. But, it was foiled when Don came looking for her on another matter. Having found her family hadn't established credit in Rhydin, Cat charged $300 boots to the Harada's credit card and forgot to tell them. Needless to say, after a lengthy lecture, she had to return them. Also, she's been handing out pumpkin seeds and tomatoes to all her male friends in order to promote prostate health, much to Don's dismay. A little reading in medical journals can be a dangerous thing. Matriel (Rarefied Rain): No news this week. Melly (Melanie Wyndham): The shy relief baker and counter help at Ariana's Divine Delights Bakery still hasn't tended at the Silver Moon Inn yet. Mesteno (Bronze Mesteno): It's been a quiet week for the sadist, with little worth mentioning save for an unfortunate episode involving the revival of an inanimate snake adornment he's been wearing for the past month, the return of his missing witch friend Gabriella (whose presence provoked the snake!) and being "kidnapped" by Michael for a pleasantly relaxing weekend away. Mestrangelo (MestrangeIo): No news this week. Mithril/Gadreel/Lusus (ASaintOfSinners): Still busy. Morgan Knight (Morgan Rampage): What a busy week, and so little of it good! Between feuding with his best friend, trying desperately to come to terms with his newly discovered sister, and ironing out the thin line between business and friendship, one would think Morgan would have no time to cause other trouble -- but he certainly has. Last anyone saw the rich kid, he was getting hurled against the bar by an angry Donatello Harada, thanks to his meddling in a delicate situation with said turtle's loved ones. But at least he found a girl to flirt with... Mozart (AmadaeusFelidae): Still missing. Nerissa Siallie (Nerissa Siallie): The Dreamspeaker was involved in an elaborate prank with Jack and two of his new friends, Andrea Knight (Gaian Rampage) and Irina Braeden. Of course, after the prank was successful, things got carried away... Nicole Brock Anorlasvessë (Nicole E Brock): No news this week. Ophelia (EspressoBlues): Is considering selling the Ehz TV and getting a new one, but is not sure if she should inflict Ehziness on the world. Consequently, after thinking such things someone mysteriously dropped off a basket with a pair of adorably cute baby bunnies on her doorstep. Both male and female. Parhi Grimjaws (The Multifarious): No News this week. Pleione (Stellar Balinese): Bored with constantly watching over Kakabel, Pleione snuck back into Gem's home to check up on things. After finding the newborn baby, she hasn't left his side ever since. Except for when Gem is feeding him, then she sneaks off to get something to eat for herself. Has she found a new person to watch over as an acting guardian? Whatever the case may be, she has been strangely silent in dealing with Gem. Not answering any of her questions at all. Rachael MacLeod (RachaeI MacLeod): No news this week. Ramiel (Ember Shade): Still busy with God knows what, besides the coffee shop. He's exceedingly cheerful, though. Randall Woods (Elaborate Guns): No news this week. Rei (AmethystStarfall): Finally! He's free of his mother's womb! Rekah (Rekah Dravina): No news this week. Revari: The Daydream Weaver (KaleidoscopeWhim): No news this week. Rhiannon Brock (Rhiannon D Brock): No news this week. Robin (Robin Kalahola): No news this week. Rose (Electrum Rose): Big and ungainly as a house. However she's entertaining ideas of coming out to visit. Besides, she misses Gem and her other friends. Expect the big-bellied Cultist to be seen in the next week. Royce Kingsley (Royce Kingsley): Evidently any rumors of a reported falling-out between Royce and Merriam (Heavy Metal Mer) may have some credence, as Royce has abruptly sold all of his Rhydin holdings at a significant loss and returned home. Seamus Wylie (Seamus Wylie): While not a lot is going around beyond word of mouth, there does seem to be something wrong with Seamus. He's nervous all the time, but this is a new kind of nervous. He's even appeared once or twice a bit gray. Maybe there's trouble in paradise. He's been seen having a few small arguments with the lady that's moved into his apartment, Rose. Or should we say, the barely legal girl that's moved into his apartment. Something has certainly developed, we'll see where it ends. Stephen Valkonan (Stephen Valkonan): Another busy week. Falling worse into his newest nasty habit of smoking, mostly thanks to Morgan's 'help' with his perceived relationship woes (read: the nonexistent ones). Though the boys are not fighting. The prank they wanted to pull on the Haradas failed miserably, with punishments handed out on all sides. For some unknown reason, Stephen refuses to mention his at all. Currently he's doing more work on the Holotheater (No rest for the wicked), and attempting to help his best friend keep his head above water. Suriel (Thirteenthchange): No news this week. Sydney and Donatello Harada (SmileFang, DonatalIo Harada): The pair of maniacs have been strangely quiet this week. If we don't count that one public taboo by Donatello. The turtle, who works with kids as the Dean of Northedge, ended up having a small outburst at the SMI. Which ended in a brief scuffle between he and Morgan. Mainly Morgan being thrown against the bar. Terrance Tomar-Duncan (Terrance Tomar): Terry hasn't been seen at all this week, not even at his favorite bookstores or apothecaries. Then again, it is still flu season and germy people are out and about. All the better to stay in. Tomas Dante Diablo (Rev DiabIo, Revered Tengu): No news this week. Troy (Troy Embry): No news this week. Vadriel (Vadriel de Guise): The spook-magnet has been typically hermit-like this week, avoiding any and all contact with the outside world save for his usual visitor and the necessity of trips to patients. It has also been reported that there has been unusual activity involving floating oddities chasing each other on his front lawn. Valleana (Va11eana): No news this week. Wilhelm "Dozer" Braun (SMI Dozer): No news this week. Yoshi (KitsuneNineTails): He is stealing garden rakes and was nearly caught a few times, but keeps getting away. Nobody knows what the rakes are for yet. Zelphina (XZeIphina): Still missing. According to our records, this Wednesday (February 4, 2004) is this particular player's birthday. With that in mind, please feel free in the very near future to wish SmileFang a very HAPPY BIRTHDAY! Through the grapevine we've heard that she'll be turning the ripe young age of 21 this week, so chances are she'll be out celebrating instead of online playing. May there be many more joyous (and not so drunken) occasions yet to come for you. Hope you have a good one, hon! Speaking of birthdays, on the character scale the inevitable has come to a premature conclusion. As stated earlier in this newsletter, the pregnant elfess Gemethyst was finally relieved to pop that baby free. Though it's a strange occurrence of events to lead up to the birth, we are happy to announce that mother and child are both doing well. Kaleb Elemmiire Rei is a healthy baby boy with silvery-white hair, dusky skin, cloudy purple eyes and the cutest set of dark gray wings. The babe is being watched over by his very own guardian angel Cassiel and has four Godparents: Mer, Mesteno, Mestrangelo and Ryan Malirecci. Congratulations on Gem for finally being free of the torturing restraints of being pregnant. Final ThoughtsOnce again, I cannot believe the number of updates I received this week! You guys are fabulous! If things continue along the path they've been traveling, it won't surprise me if one day this newsletter needs to be broken down into two e-mails.
