Ubique's Weekly A Mutual Endeavors Publication Issue #48 ~ 26 July 2004 The Blurb Ladies and Gentleman, may I have your attention please? I would just like to say that ...
It feels so freaking good to be back!!! For nearly three and a half long months now, I have been deprived. Living through terrible withdrawal from that blessed little miracle of life that we addicts like to call the Internet. It's taken some time for me to readjust, especially after everything I have missed out on during my absence. I am pleased to note that I still remember how to role-play! I believe someone told me that it's just like riding a bike. And what would you know? It is! Among all the things I would like to share with you, I think the first and foremost should be a tremendous THANK YOU to my Interim Editor AG. Without her, UW would have more than likely drifted away in a pile of dust and added itself to the countless numbers of "things forgotten." It would have broken my heart to see my darling Ubique's Weekly become nothing more than a fond memory of something that was. I have high hopes for this here newsletter, and if it weren't for every last one of you it would be nothing more than a thought that had never taken form. So not only am I thanking AG for her unrelenting faith and dedication, but I am thanking each and every one of you. Your support and fanaticism is what helps keep the dream alive. Now I have a lot of news to share with all of you. Thank you to all who contributed character news and storyline information. Thank you to all who allow me to share what I know from what I've seen. Ubique's Weekly would be nothing without you no matter what makes it to these pages. I couldn't do it without you all. But enough of this sappyness. Let's get on with the news, shall we?
Top Story! The Reconstructing of the RDI: Of all the times that I had to take a leave of absence... Word has it, and I'm very delighted to say, that the Red Dragon Inn role-playing Community is back in the hands of Hosts! Thursday evening I had an instant message conversation with one of the most known names in RDI Hosting. Our co-collaborators over at the FFG Group were very helpful in providing me with all the information I needed to bring this news to all of you. From April until now I have missed out on far too much. This may be old news to quite a number of you, but I felt it still needed to be shared. Thanks to my inescapable necessity to take a Leave of Absence, I have been ignorant of all that has gone on in role-play land. Though during my forced vacation I spent a lot of time thinking. Plotting and planning and forging ideas for my many scattered characters. But that's besides the point. After reviewing all of the copies of the Multiverse Minutes that were lost to AOL time and space (thankfully forwarded to me by the co-editor), I realized that I wish more than anything I had not been forced into absenteism. Over the next week or so I plan on compiling a complete analysis of the information that needs sharing. It'll take some time to create something concrete, but I can at least share this much: From the July 11th edition of The Multiverse Minutes: "Red Dragon Inn Schedule. Here's the current HOST schedule for those who have restored their HOST names: Full Schedule (times are Eastern): Monday 8 - 9 PM -- Red Dragon Inn with HOST Game Darius 9 - 10 PM -- Red Dragon Inn with HOST Game Darius & Muse 10 - 11 PM -- Red Dragon Inn with HOST Game Sylvia 11 - 12 AM -- Red Dragon Inn with HOST Game Sylvia Thursday 9 - 10 PM -- Red Dragon Inn with HOST Game Kat 10 - 11 PM -- Red Dragon Inn with HOST Game Kat Friday 7 - 8 PM -- Red Dragon Inn with HOST Game Darius 8 - 9 PM -- Red Dragon Inn with HOST Game Darius 9 - 10 PM -- Red Dragon Inn with HOST Game Hunter 10 - 11 PM -- Red Dragon Inn with HOST Game Dey & Hunter 11 - 12 AM -- Red Dragon Inn with HOST Game Chloe 12 - 1 AM -- Red Dragon Inn with HOST Game Collie & Chloe 1 - 2 AM -- Red Dragon Inn with HOST Game Collie Saturday 9 - 10 PM -- Red Dragon Inn with HOST Game Muse 10 - 11 PM -- Red Dragon Inn with HOST Game Cairo 11 - 12 AM -- Red Dragon Inn with HOST Game Cairo Sunday 8 - 9 PM -- Red Dragon Inn with HOST Game Raelyn 9 - 10 PM -- Red Dragon Inn with HOST Game Raelyn 10 - 11 PM -- Red Dragon Inn with HOST Game Hunter 11 - 12 AM -- Red Dragon Inn with HOST Game Dey & Hunter" For more information concerning the Red Dragon Inn and it's Community resurrection progress, do not be afraid to contact those in the know. Since I have not asked for express permission yet to reveal the exact names of those in the know, I won't. Until then, feel free to contact me with any questions and concerns you may have. Anything I don't have an answer for immediately, rest assured that I am capable of finding the answer. As I've said, I am in the progress of compiling a complete essay on the subject and will inform you all as to when it is completed and available for your reading pleasure. Now... Let's get on with the rest of the news. Storyline SpotlightBefore my temporary leave of absence, a lot of discussion was going on concerning the nature of this section in Ubique's Weekly. When I created the Spotlights, it was my original intention to use it as a category to help clear the confusion about certain Storylines. To provide readers with otherwise unavailable descriptions of "establishments" (aka: rooms) visited by characters throughout Rhy'Din and beyond. I'm still not quite certain what it has been used for during my absence. Usually when I write up these newsletters I try to use my best judgement as to what fits where, and that isn't going to change. Chances are this section will be ommitted by next issue. That is unless of course someone comes up with a description for a room that has not been printed yet. So ... With that said, I'll be moving onto the Headlines. This Just In There's a few headlines this time. Without further ado, here is this issue's... Headlines Busy Goddesses:Over the course of the past few months, Mistresses Mallora and Valleana of the Temple of Love & Ecstasy have become exceedingly busy. The realms should know that while the family may not be around for quite some time due to business that needs taken care of on their homeworld of Valtash, the Temple still remains open to the public. So feel free to visit at any time. Lazy Days of Summer: The Shoreline Office of Blackjack Adventures is open for business. Contact Office Manager

. RhyDin Baywatch: Rhydin Shore Patrol is still investigating a massacre at what appears to have been a luau. Details on the shooting spree are being withheld by authorities. A total of twenty-six people were shot to death with a variety of weapons. Until further notice, a square mile of Rhydin's coast is closed to the public. The Illithid Node: The lack of outward activity is ongoing. And refreshing. Agents of the Department of the Exterior (the befuddling Men In Plaid) seem to have settled into a long-term surviellance, despite their public orders. The 'person' (for lack of a better word) in the cloak and robe seems to be occasionally watching the watchers. In Other News... I'm extremely pleased with the amount of individual Character Updates that I've received this week. Due to the overabundance, I was once again forced to make cuts; ommitting names to which I received no updates for. So if you don't see your character listed, don't fret. Just think of it as a reminder to send me updates for the next issue. Quite a few giggles to spread around. Thank you to all who contributed! I swear more than half of you are psychic too. Ahriman (TheAngraMaiynu): He is still currently at work on Phase Two of his plan. Amaliel (AmaIiel): Annoyingly, now that he is mortal, Mithril seems to like to be even more directly involved in combats and his bodyguard knows better than to pull him out of them once he has started. What a pain in the feathered *** (if it was feathered). While that one can be convinced to stay at home, the malakim continues to enjoy outings and visits with Jules (Jules Braeden). Anna (AriannaRavenwood): The blue sister visited the Silver Moon Inn this past week. It's unclear whether Arianna will return immediately to her husband's clan lands to rejoin her husband Galen (Galen Ravenwood) and her son Brion or if she will remain in Rhydin a bit longer. Ariana (ArianaMacGyldren): The green sister, along with her husband Galen (Galen MacGyldren) and daughter Elaine (Elaine Aqua), still resides at her husband and brother in law's clan lands. Ariana recently made a few public appearances at the Silver Moon Inn, usually with her canines (Fritzs Pack). Other than these appearances and working at the bakery, she still is in private mourning and continues to plot to avenge her son's murder. Caife (SMI Multifarious): The ever-loved Silver Moon Coffee Golem was seen doing its usual duty this week. Tuesday evening provided odd occurrences in which patrons suspected that the machine might be experiencing technical difficulties. One patron was even heard to have asked Caife if it would like for him to take a look. The Golem's reply being that it only trusted its maintenance to gnomes before it politely shut itself down for the evening. Calypso (Lady Proudfoot): She is still entertaining her adoring public. Carmine (Taciturn Merc): The mercenary continues to collect back pay from those that owe the Silver Moon Inn money. Rumor has it that he is once again having to deal with the fact that his son is bitten by wanderlust. Chasz Harvey (Chasz Harvey ): Having trained his long-lost girlfriend (Adrienne LaCroix) in the clerical duties at the station, he's had a lot more time to devote to field work, and the crime rate in Rhydin has dropped a few percentage points as a result. Cryptopakolips the Unseasoned (The Multifarious): It is now official; Cryptopakolips has his tower back. He is going to be occupied for a while repairing the damage inflicted by the intruders, so he won't be around. Thank heavens for small blessings. See the entry for Kulkem for more details. D (Duncan H Harper): Been busy attempting to seal off his personal lair, aka the upstairs lounge, from the increasingly persistent decorating crew. Currently a large and exceedingly thick wall of webbing is in place at the top of the stairs, preventing entrance, but it may only be a matter of time before the walls of his fortress fall. Deputy Marshall Wynter (Rachael Wynter): The scarred law woman in black still investigates various crime sprees, including a recent series of muggings in the slum areas. Rachael is doing her best to wrap up the investigations on the murder of one Larry "Grabber" Nelson, the kidnapping of one Irina Braeden (Irina Braeden) and the alleged assault of Morgan Knight at the Silver Moon Inn on April 6th. She's frustrated in her investigations because to date no one's come forward with any information. Doctor Maranya Tatiana Valkonan (Maranya Valkonan): She's tending to her patients as usual, including one of the tenders at the Silver Moon Inn. The good Doctor continues tShe's tending to her patients as usual, including one of the tenders at the Silver Moon Inn. The good Doctor continues to spend time volunteering her medical services at a local free clinic and continues to consult with Doctor Jacobs about a mutual patient. Though Maranya has currently locked herself up in her laboratory with regards to certain medical experiments, she is taking more time to personally supervise the landscaping on her ranch again, now that summer is here. Dris (Bard GaIIant): Well... He's back from his very long business trip! Sunday morning he returned to the wonderful world of Rhy'Din both very eager and happy to be home. Having spent most of the week reuniting with Carmine, he decided halfway through that he needed to pay a visit to the Silver Moon Inn and see what he had been missing out on. Not to mention that he wanted to escape the scrutiny of a certain thirteen-year-old that he was reminded of having to help take care of. So he spent some time reaquainting with friends and family alike Wednesday night. His adoptive mother Ariana (ArianaMacGyldren) and second cousin Terry (Terrance Tomar) to name a few. Not to mention a handful of pooches (Fritz Pack). It's good to be home. Ehzoterik VonArcanum Tempestas (Ehzoterik): Fluctuations within the Space/Time Continuum indicate that something must be going on in Limbo, but ... what? Elaine (Elaine Aqua): Elaine is spending her summer vacation helping her Mama at her bakery. She's also effectively grounded for two weeks because of her recent late night exploration expedition. Elaine really misses her brother Banshee (Banshee Aqua) and really truly doesn't believe he's truly gone. Emmy (Empress Grayfur): The Empress Emerald of Grayfur has expressed a decreasing interest in prowling since the beginning of the week. She has been seen spending most of her time investigating corners and secluded areas of the MacGyldren household. Some of them more appealing than others, but appealing for what reasons? Irina Braeden (Irina Braeden): In this week's installment, there's no news of note for this native Rhydin resident. Stay tuned. J (Duncan J Harper): Could I be any more missing? Jack Bishop (Jackrabbit Blue): The only news of note is that he is almost completely finished with the restructuring of Doc Anya's yard. All these many long months concentrating on landscaping are starting to pay off. Hopefully his employer is pleased with his contributions. Jim Smith (TheSpiritRemains): Someone stole his ladylove, Blondie, from outside the Rambling Rose. Much cursing followed. Luckily he had a buddy at hand to help him chase down the thief before his beloved bike (a cream and gold Harley Screaming Eagle Deuce) made it to a chop shop, talk him out of committing murder, and help him haul the thief to the authorities instead. He still regrets not eating her face. Grrrrr! Johan (Johan The Hunter): Busy as always with the running of things, considering applications, pushing pencils, and spending time with his main squeeze, Zelphina (Xx Zelphina xX), as well as fighting D (Duncan H Harper) tooth and nail to get the upstairs lounge completed at long last. Johnny Hellshot (Johnny Hellshot): The Flamer, as he is becoming known, has learned two new tricks. He has also had an enlightening night out w/ Parhi. Was it romantic? He ain't telling. Maybe he is more of a gentleman, and less of a loudmouthed ass than many think...and then again maybe nothing happened. Likely that last bit... Joker (SMI Joker, Richard D Harker): The flirtatious bartender for the Silver Moon Inn just worked his normal shift the past week. He's still keeping an eye on his younger brother Nigel (Peter N Harker), has been heard making threats to kill a mysterious Him and learned something rather disturbing about his younger brother. Joker is currently undergoing anger management counseling along with his usual medical treatments from the Valkyrie (Maranya Valkonan) and appears to have a serious romantic interest in his life, Rhi (Rhiannon D Brock). Jules (Jules Braeden): She is keeping on with keeping on. Nothing new and exciting in her world. Kakabel (Framework Memento): Apparently Kakabel has given up on the search for his stolen son. Which is all well and good considering he did not have to look very far to find him. Baffled by the entire concept itself, the amnesiatic fallen angel listened to the signs that pointed him back "home" to Rhy'Din. There at the Silver Moon Inn he discovered a teenage boy whose name identically matched that of the baby he had been searching for. Their conversation was short, brusque as Kakabel is known to be. Needing some time to process the truth of these revelations, he left with the intent of returning to Gem's home. That is ... if she will welcome him back. Kevin (Kevin N Summers): Keeping himself occupied with his photography career and somehow managing to cover the bills, but working himself ragged doing it. Kulkem (Kulkem): After the restoration of Cryptopakolips the Unseasoned to his tower, an effort begun in The Plea to Kulkem the archmage came to the Silver Moon and had a little sit-down with Ariana about recent events. It seems the reason Cryptopakolips went berserk at the sight of the Hag's Walking Hut currently parked in front of the Silver Moon is that the hut is his. That is, a biomantic product of Pako's own laboratories. It's not his work, though - he says it's some kind of rush job, short lifespan, high appetite even when it's resting, possibly other defects as well. It is less than three months old, and how it came to be in the possession of the Hag Huu (Lil Ol Lady Huu) is a bit of a mystery, as is why... Melly (Melanie Wyndham): The shy relief baker is recovering from her high gear service at Ariana's Divine Delights Bakery with regards to a huge and short notice catering job. But will she ever tend bar at the Silver Moon Inn? The world may never know. Mer Harris (Heavy Metal Mer): Rumor has it that Mer is a bartender at the Rambling Rose Tavern. Now that's just something that has to be seen to be believed. Mithril/Gadreel/Lusus (ASaintOfSinners): After receiving his share of hints that such a thing would be most desired, he finally proposed to Terrance Tomar. They are now engaged, but have yet to set a definite date for any sort of ceremony to take place. On a darker note, his friend's motorcycle was stolen and he helped track the thief down. When they caught up with her, they took her to a prison and found out that she is definitely a wanted woman. Monsters (MonstrusAppetite): Whether it be Crites, or Graboids, or the Sons of Shelob, residents and guests of the Silver Moon Inn are sure to be a treat for these monstrous carnivores. Could this be random chance that all these malicious entities are centered on the 'Inn? Is there no game left in the forests of Rhydin? The Shadow knows... (ok someone play the Shadow and IM me..ok j/k). Morgan Knight (Morgan Rampage): Rumor has it that Morgan is a bartender at the Rambling Rose Tavern. Mozart (Amadeus Felidae): Resigned to the fact that the strange invader is not going to go anywhere, he has decided that he might as well make friends. It helps that the invader seems to know how to pet a cat. Ophelia (Espresso Blues): Will there ever be news on this reclusive coffee shop hostess? Who knows? Stay tuned. Parhi Grimjaws (The Multifarious): Remains absent, no new reports, although the buffet at the Silver Moon Inn has featured her signature dishes now and then. Pleione (Stellar Balinese): Still very perturbed that there are NO missing cat posters! Rei (Amethyst Starfall): He is adjusting to life in his mother's estate. He also finally encountered his estranged father, but is still trying to decide what to make of that experience. He has personal doubts that he will ever see the man again and should have told him off when he had the chance. Salvador (Peculiar Silence): Deep in the thick of summer and the school season closing in on him fast, Salvador has been spending more time stalking around town and taking in the sights. The English lessons he has been taking under the tutelage of Professor Harada are paying off. The Spaniard's son finds it easier to communicate with the people that he meets, though he is still a little confused on the nature of slang. He was also puzzled about how the adults have been treating him in relationship to his new friend Elaine (Elaine Aqua). Another puzzle he was faced with was the nature of an old friend Irina (Irina Braeden). He feels that she has been acting rather strange. However, after getting to know her pet winged cat a little, he thinks that he now knows how to deal with the scrutiny of a certain black and white tuxedo cat at home. The private "lessons" he has been taking with the mysterious "Professor Wanwa" seem to be showing signs of personal improvement as well. Whatever it is that she is teaching him must be helping out somehow. Sal is looking forward to taking his placement exam for enrollment in Northedge this school year, as having a formal education will give him something to do. Suriel (ThirteenthChange) He made an appearance at the Silver Moon Inn recently and was imbued with the ability to taste and enjoy food and drink. As it turns out he has shown a preference for tropical beverages. Fruit... Terrance Tomar-Duncan (Terrance Tomar): Terry has a new ring he likes better than all the magicked ones. Mithril has popped the question and he will probably spend the week pouncing on people and gushing engagement news at them. It is unlikely he will be useful for much else until the little cartoon hearts stop streaming off him; he managed to find an ichor-splattering fight with giant spiders directly after the proposal to be romantic. Hopeless. Twelve (The Multifarious): The heavens shake. The earth groans. Mephisto, Hell's lord of perversion and depravity commented, 'Man, that's freaky.' upon receiving the news. Twelve has his own theme song. He says it's composition was assisted by 'the monkey people', whoever they are, but the lyrics clearly involve Twelve, and Twelve alone. The tune is remarkably reminiscent of Popeye the Sailor, but with Twelve's singing voice it's kind of hard to tell. It goes a little something like this... "I didn't hab no daddy, an' me mudder was a pot, An' a bald-headed fella be the only kin I got, An' some mean hob-gobble-uns taught me how ta fight, But I wouldn't massacree cuz I know'd it wasn't right Well I got wormy hair and me hide is all green, And I got the sharpest ticklers on me hands you ever seen, And I don't like smokin', and I don't wear boots, And I don't take trouble from no blood-eatin' galoots, An' I got lot's of arms, but only half a brain, So I can't do no figures, but I never feels no pain, And I got a pointy nose and I never stays hurt, And that's all me til I turn back inta dirt! I never starts nothin', and I never tells a lie, And I flaps all me arms but I never can fly, And I gots bony skin, an' I can eat a whole whale, If a deemun makes trouble, I kin snatch 'im in the tail!" And in the depths of the core of the Universe, beyond light or reason, the blind idiot chaos Azathoth whimpers and mutters, 'Please, make it stop!' Yeehaw Kikass (Yeehaw M Kikass): The ol Juicer-turned-beta-werewolf is up to his ears trying to keep Elaine out of trouble and away from a certain young "Spaniard." Ok maybe it's all in his head, heck it only happened once...but still..."Sluts are made by a lack of vigilence," or so the voices in his head tell him. Ynik (TheMultifarious):When the Inn was assaulted by giant spiders late one evening, Ynik showed up to help with it's defense. He gave no accounting for his activities or intentions, just helped keep folks from getting spiderbit long enough for Mithril to clear them away with a Rain of Fire, then disappeared. Yoshi (KitsuneNineTails): Nope, no actual news on the kitsune, but rest assured he is probably up to no good. Zohak (ABafflingEnigma): He is beginning to assert his own will, much to the consternation of his parental figures. He recently disobeyed his mother figure and is now having to face the consequences of that act. He is not at all happy.
