The Blurb

I'm not sure if any of you noticed, but last week I accidentally put the wrong date on the newsletter. Where I put August 1st, it should have read August 2nd. Hopefully that doesn't confuse anyone too terribly. All I know is that after I sent out the letter I had one of those Homer Simpson moments. Too late to fix it, though. Not that it really matters so much in the long run. Once I get everything archived on the UW website, I'll fix all of those discrepencies. Speaking of archives, pay attention to the classifieds section this week and the following weeks. I'm including a "job" position to any and all interested parties, otherwise known as Ubique's Weekly readers and subscribers.

There's a lot of information to be sharing with you all this week. Thank you to everyone who submitted updates. Ubique's Weekly would be nothing without your dedication to the publication. There's also a lot to look forward to in the weeks to come. So keep your eyes peeled for any changes that might occur. With all that blabbering said, let's get on with the news shall we?

Top Story!

We're skipping right over the Storyline Spotlight section this week, as I haven't exactly received anything terrifically noteworthy. However, I have been doing a lot of thinking and would like to take a moment to send out some encouragement to a group of fellow collaborators out there. Since we all know that the school season will be starting up soon, I figured it might stand to reason that the school seasons will be starting in Rhy'Din as well. So perhaps next week a preparation blotter or two would come in handy. I for one am curious, aren't the rest of you?

Just like last week, I'm going to let the Headlines speak for themselves. Headlines

Busy Goddesses:Over the course of the past few months, Mistresses Mallora and Valleana of the Temple of Love & Ecstasy have become exceedingly busy. The realms should know that while the family may not be around for quite some time due to business that needs taken care of on their homeworld of Valtash, the Temple still remains open to the public. RhyDin Baywatch: Rhydin Shore Patrol is still investigating a massacre at what appears to have been a luau. Details on the shooting spree are being withheld by authorities. A total of twenty-six people were shot to death with a variety of weapons. Until further notice, a square mile of Rhydin's coast is closed to the public.

Thursday Night Scramble: Thursday night, an otherwise restful night at the Silver Moon Inn was interrupted by a Fire Giant named Flense Ulkis. The thirteen foot tall monster only started out his night by stealing a keg of something - and drinking the whole thing right there. He had other, far less innocuous intentions, involving an attempt to abduct/kill Sulrin which failed because of the efforts of more or less every other patron in the place. One man in particular, Grady Langdon, managed to distract the huge creature by smacking it with a chair. Ulkis proceeded to turn his attention on Langdon, and killed the unfortunate human. The rest of the patrons, in a fit of outrage, attacked Ulkis - and did little more than enrage the monster, until Sulrin pulled a Leggie and fired an arrow, empowered with an ice enchantment by Rachael McLeod, into Ulkis' brain through his mouth. One of the other patrons summoned a huge toad, which promptly swallowed the giant's body. These events might be connected to the Giant gang rumored to be marauding to the north of town.

In Other News...

Ahriman (TheAngraMaiynu): As ever, he is plotting and scheming dark and despicable deeds.

Amaliel (AmaIiel): Still snatching those rare random moments with Jules Braeden when his boss is staying somewhere safe.

Anna (AriannaRavenwood): The blue sister hasn't been seen in public. It's still unclear whether Arianna will return to her husband's clan lands to rejoin her husband Galen (Galen Ravenwood) and her son Brion or if she will remain in Rhydin a bit longer.

Ariana (ArianaMacGyldren): The green sister, along with her husband Galen (Galen MacGyldren) and daughter Elaine (Elaine Aqua), still resides at her husband and brother in law's clan lands. Ariana recently made a public appearance at the Silver Moon Inn with her panther cubs (Fritzs Pack). Other than this appearance and working at the bakery, the green sister still is in private mourning and continues to plot to avenge her son Banshee's murder. Ariana is making very special plans to make her third wedding anniversary with Galen on this coming Tuesday a memorable event for both of them.

Calypso (Lady Proudfoot): She is still entertaining her adoring public.

Carmine (Taciturn Merc): He recently had a communication meltdown with Dris over some puppy person. As it turned out the puppy creature was not the real issue, but made a handy scapegoat. After a lot of yelling and arguing, they finally got to the bottom of things, and made up. Unbeknownst to him, his son and his cat were witness to the fight.

Carolyn Valkonan (Dreams in Burgundy): The teen with the electrical socket accentent hairdo was spotted earlier this week at the Silver Moon Inn. Reuniting with an old friend and making a new ... friend. The most that witnesses can conclude is that she looked to be enjoying a night out of the house. Cassiel (Inverted Darkness): He was seen recently visiting some friends in the Medieval Tavern when a mysterious godlike being showed up and asked his assistance with something. It is something having to do with tears, but he refuses to say what.

Cheriour (He11ish Hunter): Orrie has been scarce lately what with Rei being busy and with too much going on around the house that isn't his business, including people whose way he just plain wants to stay out of.

Colleen MacLeod (PrlUnicorn, SMI Colleen): Collie and her husband, Ithildirnen (SMI Ithildirnen), are rumored to have taken an extended vacation and recently returned to public view. It is possible that the couple simply stayed home to enjoy some much needed relaxation and family time, but no one is saying for certain.

On Sunday evening, Colleen MacLeod (SMI Colleen, PrlUnicorn) was witnessed having what looked like a hormonal episode when she went from sunny singing while cooking food for the buffet to swearing to embarass sailors in various languages. One person was overheard asking "Who lit her fuse?" What actually lit her fuse is anyone's guess, but she was seen giving a note to a young woman that seemed to be regarding a fuss earlier in the evening.

Cryptopakolips the Unseasoned (The Multifarious): Still clearing out his tower, and trying to get over his humiliation at having it stolen. His absence is a blessing, but one wonders how completely insufferable he will be when he reappears. See Kulkem for more details.

Deputy Marshall Wynter (Rachael Wynter): The scarred law woman in black is still doing her best to wrap up the investigations on the murder of one Larry "Grabber" Nelson, the kidnapping of one Irina Braeden (Irina Braeden) and the alleged assault of Morgan Knight (Morgan Rampage) at the Silver Moon Inn on April 6th. She's frustrated in these investigations because to date no one's come forward with any information. Due to information learned at a recent visit to the SMI, Rachael has recently reopened the investigation on a long-standing case which involves child and adult prostitution, child endangerment, child abuse, drugs and other illicit activities.

Diana Lasher (Fragile Fury): Commander Lasher is looking forward to wrapping up a few loose ends and getting some R&R. The loose ends in question have to do with more testing of the new upgrades for the Misfit Squadron's fleet.

She was seen in the Star's End a few weeks ago talking to some old friends, Kkel Solaar and Cale Winston (CaleWinstn). It seems the pair were in a heated discussion over whether or not they ever were married.

Doctor Maranya Tatiana Valkonan (Maranya Valkonan): She's tending to her patients as usual, including one of the tenders at the Silver Moon Inn. The good Doctor continues to spend time volunteering her medical services at a local free clinic and continues to consult with Doctor Jacobs about a mutual patient. Maranya is taking more time to personally supervise the landscaping on her ranch again, now that summer is here and she is very pleased with the work so far. During a recent visit to the Rambling Rose Tavern, she learned disturbing news about one of her patients. The good Doctor's live-in groundskeeper, Jack (JackrabbitBlue), suggested a movie night with popcorn to take her mind off the news, which she eagerly agreed to.

Dris (Bard GaIIant): Life is never easy for the bard, no matter how laid-back he tries to be. Recently he and Carmine had an increasingly hostile misunderstanding concerning the nature of someone Dris somewhat knows. Whatever the two argued about seems to have been resolved since neither of them have been seen sleeping curbside lately. However, Dris has become rather baffled about the fact that Carmine's son has been spending quite a deal of time staring at him. Mostly he's passed it off as a figment of his imagination, but he swears he feels eyes on him...

Elaine (Elaine Aqua): Elaine is spending her summer vacation helping her Mama at her bakery. She hasn't gone exploring at all. Maybe she's learned her lesson after her grounding. Elaine really misses her brother Banshee (Banshee Aqua) and really truly doesn't believe he's truly gone.

Emmy (Empress Grayfur): Ah August. A time for rest and relaxation. Well, the lovely Russian blue seems to be doing a butt load of that. Especially with the overabundance of eating she's been doing. How else could she be getting so fat?

Gem (Gemethyst, SMI Gem): Gem is happy that her son is living in her manor, and just going from day to day, dealing with whatever comes. She and Keun are doing well, getting closer. The official that was blackmailing her, Lord Lionel Christoff, has not been seen or heard from in some time. She is counting herself lucky for that, and for Mer, too, who is also being blackmailed. Or at least that is her understanding of it. She worries that Rei will be affected by the villain, and so keeps trying to make sure Lionel does not know of him. She was delighted to see Mestrangelo of late, that lady holding her deepest admiration and affection. She was upset and yet...glad...to find that Rei had met his father. He and Terrance had been discussing how Mithril will be helping Kakabel regain his memories. She is, as always, still hurting over him.

Irina Braeden (Irina Braeden): In this week's installment, the only news of note for this native Rhydin resident is she's still got the flu this week. That hasn't kept her from going out a couple of nights, though. Stay tuned.

Jack Bishop (Jackrabbit Blue): He really -has- been very busy working at the Ranch, and rarely gets out these days. However, when he discovered that his employer Dr. Valkonan wasn't at home one evening he grew worried. After calling her up, he found her at the Rambling Rose Tavern and decided to catch up with her. Since she wasn't feeling too well, he offered to take her home and hang out with her. She agreed to a movie night with popcorn, and he was very happy to have been a help to the improvement of her mood.

Jim Smith (TheSpiritRemains): Some people just can't make friends the normal way. Jim and his albino buddy Mithril befriended a volatile teenager called Red the other night after a great deal of angst outburst and some vandalism. He has been busy talking the Braeden girls out of suing the boy and dealing with changes in his shared kid, Zohak.

Joker (SMI Joker, Richard D Harker): The flirtatious bartender for the Silver Moon Inn just worked his normal shift the past week. He's worried about his younger brother Nige (Peter N Harker), who he hasn't seen in some time. Joker is currently undergoing anger management counseling along with his usual medical treatments from the Valkyrie (Maranya Valkonan) and appears to have a very serious romantic interest in his life, Rhi (Rhiannon D Brock). He may even shave his beard off for Rhi, it's that serious.

Jules (Jules Braeden): She is as busy as ever with work, but is trying to take time away to relax. She is helping take care of her little sister who has the flu and by now seems to have gone stir crazy from having to stay in bed.

Kulkem (Kulkem): After The Plea to Kulkem Kulkem assisted Cryptopakolips in the restoration of his tower. It hasn't ended the entire matter, but those who know do not speak. In the meantime, Kulkem is keeping a low profile, especially around the Silver Moon...

Matakhat Cain (Matakhat Cain): Cat's starting college at the University of Central Rhdyin and she's been busy moving into her dorm and making new friends and generally acclimating to college life. Which she seems to be doing readily enough, especially the partying aspect of it. This to some of her loved one's dismay. Stevie D Dakota, recently hired at the Rambling Rose, also attends the University of Central Rhydin. Thanks to him and his roommate Topher Feldman, she's already been invited to a frat party and meeting new friends around at their dorm.

Melly (Melanie Wyndham): Will the shy relief baker at Ariana's Divine Delights Bakery ever tend bar at the Silver Moon Inn? The world may never know.

Mithril/Gadreel/Lusus (ASaintOfSinners): Unsurprisingly, the workaholic is hard at work. He is busily maintaining assorted buisnesses here and there that he owns, as well as making sure that his finances remain as secure as ever. He, along with his friend Jim, encountered a boy that is in a bad situation and promised to do what they could to help the kid out. Mithril offered the youth a job and put him up in the Silver Moon Inn for the time being.

Mozart (Amadeus Felidae): He has decided to become an ally with the strange invador, for lately that is the only one that has been making any kind of sense. He observed a fight between his Carmine and that music man he insists on staying with. Unfortunatly, they kissed and made up.

Parhi Grimjaws (The Multifarious): Remains off investigating the death of Banshee, working the orcish bandit clans...

Rachael MacLeod (Rachael MacLeod): Of late, Rachael has been subject to trips on the Prenatal Hormonal Express. The mood swings and temper flares don't seem to be phasing her lifemate, Sulrin (SMI Sulrin); he's been heard reassuring her how beautiful she is despite Rae's comments to the contrary.

Her most recent descriptions of impending motherhood:

"I'm so top heavy I could be shade for a sapling!!"

"What is so wonderful about not seeing your feet for months and running to the loo every half hour?"

Rae on labor after being reminded of the joys of motherhood:
"Oh, the joy of feeling like I'm trying to shove a battleship out of a place that will barely fit a skindiver?"

Rei (Amethyst Starfall): He is both busy with work and getting ready to attend school. He has never been to a school before, so this should prove to be an interesting experience.

Rhiannon D. Brock (Rhiannon D. Brock): Rhi's been seen keeping company with the SMI's resident bachelor flirt barjockey, Joker (Richard D Harker). Are his days of flirting about to come to an end? While the relationship has apparently taken a turn down Serious Road, Rhi doesn't seem any more phased about the flirting than her mother, Colleen (PrlUnicorn), does when the ladies give Ithil the eye. Rhi was heard laughing and telling Joker he could put his eyes back into his head when he was oogling a woman in some sort of red, white, and blue costume. How will Joker handle being related to the jadeskinned dollface, as he calls Ariana (ArianaMacGyldren, SMI Ariana), should he and Rhi decide to make things permanent?

Salvador (Peculiar Silence): The strange boy with the fetish for sharp, pointy objects has been seen roaming the streets quite often again. When not visiting the local churches, he has been seen at the Silver Moon Inn and the Rambling Rose Tavern. While visiting the RRT he was witness to his first "bar fight" as he labeled it. Vaguely remembering the entity known as Seamus, and noticing that he was the center of assault attention, Sal thought it best to make sure the bartender/owner was still in one piece. Once Seamus closed up shop early, thanks to rattled nerves, Sal ventured elsewhere. At another point in time, he met up with Carolyn, a friend he hasn't seen in a long time. At the SMI with her company, he was witness to his first temper tantrum in full throttle. After dealing with an older boy by the name of Jimmy "Red," they all enjoyed a drink or two together.

Somewhere in between all of this, he came home one morning long before his father. Which was a big surprise considering that most of the time his father is still sleeping when he wanders home from a late night escapade. While reading a book in the parlor, he heard his father storm inside. Shortly afterwards, Dris entered as well. Deciding to avoid being in the middle of the storm, he hid on the stairwell and watched from a safe distance. Suffice it to say he has learned a great deal of important things over the past few weeks concerning life in general. Not to mention a handful of new words to add to his English vocabulary. Perhaps those will be useful when he attends school this Fall.

Terrance Tomar-Duncan (Terrance Tomar): Busy all week with various mage stuff, family things, social entanglements and other people's mood swings. He is starting to look rather wistfully at day spa advertisements.

Yoshi (KitsuneNineTails): Nope, no actual news on the kitsune, but rest assured he is probably up to no good.

Zohak (ABafflingEnigma): He has vanished and rumor has it that he is going through puberty, much to the consternation of his parental figures.

On top of all the wonderful storyline and character updates that I've received this week, I have also received a stupendous amount of announcements. Many of you have actually thought it out and informed me of character birthdays for the month. For that, I am very grateful. To cut down things further, I think I'll start dividing this section into two subsections. One for player announcements and one for character announcements. In the future, keep an eye out for this useful information as is. With that said, here's some things to celebrate together.

August 12th - My beatiful cat Isis turns 6 this week! She's such a fat and happy kitty, and I love her to pieces. Thought I'd share.

Final Thoughts

Updates: Always remember that any future Ubique's Weekly submissions are always due the Sunday before every expected delivery date. UW is issued every Monday morning to afternoon, depending on how long it takes me to put everything together and send it off to the printers.
