Over the weekend everybody had the chance to play around with a new system that was integrated into the site. After a few short hours of discussion, Mike implemented the community builder that was previously mentioned. What you see, I hope, is a much more personalized profile system that works with everything on the site. And I mean it works with everything!
Your Details will now take you to a new profile page. There are three tabs at the top of your profile. One is "About Community Builder" which really doesn't explain a whole lot. However, you can work with the second tab to edit your personal profile and upload a user image of your choice. You can either upload your own, provided it is within the 200x500 range, or choose one from our gallery. Still not sure what the "manage your connections" thing is all about, but I'm sure I'll figure it out. Anything you fill in under the "update your profile" tab will show at the bottom of Your Details in the first "additional info" tab. The second tab, "connections", works with managing your connections, but I still don't know precisely what it does. From what I can tell, the third tab ("profile book") is like a personlized guest book, and I think that's pretty neat. Everybody, every member, gets his or her very own guestbook so that people can leave them comments. Then there's the fourth tab: "Mini Gallery." It looks as if each member has a limited amount of space in which they can upload their own images for people to look at. So you artists can pick your favorites and show them off, if you like. Finally, this new system is fully integrated into a reorganized member list. There are two member lists on our site. One is for the IWA Staff, and the other is the remaining "Collective" of Mutual Endeavors members. If you click on any user's name in the list, their personal profile will pop up. A variety of other options are available in the top tabs. Poking around at those makes connections make a little more sense. Additionally, there is a messages tab that allows you to either send the member a personal message on the site itself, or to send him or her an email. This new Community Builder system will also work with any future forums we set up over here, but it will not work with proboards. Proboards itself isn't much at all compatible with our site. Hence why it still gets tossed into a pop-up window when you click the forums tab at the top of the page. If that helps any of you form a firmer opinion of what to do. Last update: 16-07-2007 14:29
