Ubique's Weekly A Mutual Endeavors Publication Issue #52 ~ 23 August 2004The BlurbHello again my fellow collaborators! It's either a happy Monday or a happy Tuesday that I'm wishing to one and all. Wish I could keep my days straight, but the way things are in that mundane world known as real life, it just isn't easy. I've been thinking lately about the publication due date of this newsletter, especially considering the fact that I have a tendency to be later than I would prefer lately. I do not plan on changing the deadline date for updates, however. I think the Sunday at midnight time is still a good choice. However, I'm considering not expecting UW to be issued until Tuesdays from now on. The reason for this change is because, as I've previously stated, I find it increasingly difficult to get the newsletter out on time on Mondays. Hopefully this isn't a problem with the rest of you. As for the submission deadline, I will not be changing that much. I still expect to see updates from you all, because without those updates UW would be nothing. Though I feel that I'm going to give the deadline an extended time. Between Sundays at midnight and Mondays at midnight. That's twenty-four hours for you all to think of something to send in. Statistically, most of the best role-playing occurs on the weekends. And since most of you are playing, I don't really expect you to cut back on that time just to whip up an update for me. Get your play out of the way, and then send me what you've got. So long as I get something, I'm a very happy camper. While we're on the topic of updates, did any of you notice that I neglected to send out a weekly reminder this week? Usually on Saturdays I make it a habit to send out a quick note to spark your imaginations and memories into action. This week, though, I did not send that e-mail. And I must say that I am incredibly impressed with the amount of submissions I received regardless! Thank you to those of you who took the initiative and sent in your updates without needing a reminder. That in itself is a relief to this humble editor. It makes me smile knowing that you still care about the continued existence of Ubique's Weekly. As much as I do. Now putting all mushiness aside, let's get on with the news.
Storyline SpotlightThe Baba-Yaga Parody: Events of one night last week have clarified for good and all the nature of the Hag in the Chicken Legged Hut who has been haunting the Silver Moon for the last few months. Earlier this year, a rogue intelligence agent named Burt Larson kidnapped Irina Braeden in order to attempt to exert pressure on her family. He held her in an abandoned Illithid Node due to it's resistance to scrying and other surveillance, but only kept her less than a day when a number of her friends rescued her. In the course of the rescue, Irina's then-fiance, Sgt Auggy Benson, burned Larson's hands off. He was placed under house arrest in his hospital bed, but escaped with his own unnamed allies in less than two days. From there, he somehow managed to locate a Rift Hag, one of the 'Old Ladies' who are responsible for maintaining the weaving of time and space, and trick her into giving him her hands. It is difficult to imagine what deception he might have used; given the nature of such a creature, it is possible that the creature gave up her hands willingly and fell into the trap he placed for her so that she would remain out of his way for many centuries, knowing that it would fail to do so. From there, he hired Cryptopakolips the Unseasoned to graft the hands of the hag onto his (Larson's) wrists. Once that was done he betrayed Cryptopakolips and drove him from his tower, then using the resources of the tower to produce a number of useful creatures, including a creature shaped like a hut but with birdlike legs for locomotion. Using this creature as window dressing, he then used the power of the Hands to assume the guise of a hag himself. Larson, using the identity of Lil Ole Lady Huu, hung around the Silver Moon Inn for a while, becoming acquainted with his new powers and limitations and scouting the area. He certainly wanted revenge against Irina and her friends, especially Auggy, but profit was still one of his motives. During this time, the occupying force he had left at Cryptopakolips' tower were driven out by Cryptopakolips, Kulkem, and the Cloaked One, among others. They returned to the Illithid Node, using double agents at the Department of the Exterior to keep their movements obscure to law enforcement. Last Friday night, Larson became impatient and, possibly also prompted by reports that the situation at the Node had destabilized for unknown reasons, attempted to kidnap Irina again. He failed utterly, opposed by Joe Yamada, Toho, Jinx, Veurwen, and various others, including one divinity who was friendly to Irina. Even this formidable coalition might have failed against Larson, but his hands mysteriously lost their godlike power to alter reality. The reason for this soon became clear -- the Cloaked One had successfully found the Rift Hag, freed her from Larson's trap, and led her to the Silver Moon Inn to retrieve her hands. The Rift Hag, once she had gotten her hands back, withdrew from the Silver Moon with Larson in tow. She will be about her own business, and a good thing too. Burt Larson the man will never ever be seen again. However, there are already reports of a wingless crow begging for food in that vicinity... The double agents in the Department of the Exterior are gone; their covers were blown when the Illithid Node went down. The Illithid Node had been protected from assault by the power of the Hands, but the Hag lifted this protection, leaving the ancient biological installation of the Illithids to be taken over by a new master, who immediately annihilated Larson's associates. The Illithid Node is now in the dominion of the group-mind of the giant ant colony, Hmte. This Just InThere really isn't much to say in the way of this week's Headlines. We received a fair amount of updates, and pretty much an even number of both. So I'm going to avoid getting flowery here and just move on with things Headlines Busy Goddesses:Over the course of the past few months, Mistresses Mallora and Valleana of the Temple of Love & Ecstasy have become exceedingly busy. The realms should know that while the family may not be around for quite some time due to business that needs taken care of on their homeworld of Valtash, the Temple still remains open to the public. So feel free to visit at any time. The mother and daughter duo can still be reached by mail (or e-mail) should there be any desire or need to contact them. Death and Violence: As of early Monday morning, authorities at the local RPD have informed the media of the murder of one Patricia Miller, a student at the University of Rhy'Din. Fellow dormmates have informed the press that Patricia has been missing as of Friday evening when she went out on a date with a "mystery man." Patricia did not tell her fellow students or friends who she was going to meet, but sources conclude that she has been missing since then. Her body was found mutilated and discarded underneath Pier 13 at the Rhy'Din docks. Authorities are still searching for information leading to the killer, as so far no evidence has turned up conclusive. Anyone with any information concerning the murder of Patricia Miller is urged to contact

Last Monday, the winged teen known as Rei (AmethystStarfall), braved a crowd of vampires populating the Red Dragon Inn and returned the missing items to Fayalki. On The Crime Beat: Anyone with information in the case of the murder of one Larry "Grabber" Nelson, a perpetrator previously charged with five counts of aggravated assault and two counts of petty theft, around the Silver Moon Inn as of February 29th, 2004, the kidnapping of Irina Braeden on March 21st, 2004, the alleged assault of Morgan Knight at the Silver Moon Inn on April 6th, 2004 and the whereabouts of Paul and Mary Hanson is strongly urged to contact

. Red Dragon Blues: The truth is out there, for those who know how to find it. In the past few editions of UW there has been mention of the reopening of the Red Dragon Inn (or more precisely the reinstating of official community leader HOSTs). This is not a rumor. It is indeed the truth. Our friends over at the Multiverse Minutes have been very helpful in keeping a vast majority of the role-playing population informed on what to expect. As far as changes are concerned with the return of the RDI chat HOSTs. The basic rules are still the same. Recent news from several of our correspondants has proven to be very useful and informative. So this week we're updating additions to the RDI section. Remember that all inquiries concerning the Red Dragon Inn setting can be directed to Fayalki, the official RDI correspondant. The official Red Dragon FFG Group Index webpage can be found at http://members.aol.com/rdifayalki/RDIGroup/index.htm. The message boards have been and still are active and can be found by following the links provided below: All Boards for Red Dragon Inn can be located via this link: Red Dragon Inn OOC General Discussion: The Kitchen Sink Role-playing techniques, tips, etc.: Players Assisting Players Compliments to fellow players/writers: Words of Praise Recruiting: Writer & Role-Player Recruiting We're doing a great job of keeping the dream alive, folks! Keep up the good work. These message boards are a more direct way to stay informed with your fellow-roleplayers daily, while UW is simply a weekly endeavor. Don't be shy about using these privelages. That's what they're there for. And don't forget that the official schedule can be found by following AOL Keyword: RED DRAGON INN > Role-Playing Games Chat Schedule. Rhydin Baywatch?: Rhydin Shore Patrol is still investigating a massacre at what appears to have been a luau. Details on the shooting spree are being withheld by authorities. A total of twenty-six people were shot to death with a variety of weapons. Until further notice, a square mile of Rhydin's coast is closed to the public. Summer Festival: News from the Multiverse Minutes. Dey and Fayalki are planning to host their annual Summer Festival on Saturday, August 28, 2004. The festivities will be held on Horseshoe Island, a property they own just off the coast of Rhy'Din. Invitations will be mailed shortly. If, by some chance you don't get one, show up anyway! Everyone is invited. For more information on the festival, please contact Dechirant and Fayalki, or just catch them online at the time to ask. In Other News...Once again I am highly pleased with the amount of individual Character Updates that I received this week. I'm even more pleased than usual concerning the fact that I did not send out a weekly reminder this week. Keep up the great work, folks! Thank you so much for your faith and dedication in Ubique's Weekly. Ahriman (TheAngraMaiynu): We can only assume he is up to his usual no good, for the reporter sent out to find out about this one turned up dead. Anna (AriannaRavenwood): The blue sister was seen at the Silver Moon Inn recently and had a rather pleasant visit with her nephew Dris (BardGaIIant). There's no word on whether Arianna will return to her husband's clan lands to rejoin her husband Galen (Galen Ravenwood) and her son Brion or if she will remain in Rhydin a bit longer. Ariana (ArianaMacGyldren): The green sister, along with her husband Galen (Galen MacGyldren) and daughter Elaine (Elaine Aqua), still resides at her husband and brother in law's clan lands. Ariana recently made a public appearance at the Silver Moon Inn and had a discussion with her cousin Rhiannon (Rhiannon D Brock) about romantic matters, among other things. The green sister has also settled a long-standing grudge with one of the SMI's tenders. Other than these appearances and working at the bakery, Ariana still is in private mourning and continues to plot to avenge her son Banshee's murder. Caife (SMI Multifarious): The Coffee Machine Golem was repeatedly reduced to insensate immobility by some kind of power emanation from the chicken-legged hut roosting in the Silver Moon Inn's parking lot on his shift this week. It appears that this will not recur after the events at the Silver Moon on Friday night. Calypso (Lady Proudfoot): She is no longer entertaining her adoring public, for she has a feeling that there is someone out there in the world that would benefit from her glorious presence. She has gone to seek this one out. Carmine (Taciturn Merc): He has made an appointment for his son to see Dr. Valkonan, and his child is to stay grounded until the doctor has had a chance to asses his sanity. He has enrolled his kid in school, but is unsure if this is such a good idea just yet. Carmine has not been sleeping well at all, and during the times he does manage to grab some rest, he is plagued with eerie dreams. There is this core of self doubt that is brooding within him, and he is making the mistake that most parents do when they have a mentally troubled son. He is under the impression that this is his fault somewhere, and is trying to figure out what to do to make things right. Needless to say, Dris is not finding him to be the easiest man to live with at the moment. Cassiel (InvertedDarkness): A recent incident called him to pay a visit to Gem's estate. He did not do much other than observe, but at least he got a chance to see his long lost brother, Ramiel again. Cryptopakolips the Unseasoned (The Multifarious): The Master Fleshtender is back in business, and has already taken a job from the Cloaked One. The job is still unclear, but since the mysterious figure has returned from continua unknown, it is no longer being postponed. Deputy Marshall Wynter (Rachael Wynter): The scarred law woman in black is working on wrapping up certain investigations (see Headlines). She's frustrated in her efforts because to date no one's come forward with any information. Rachael continues to investigate a long-standing case which involves child and adult prostitution, child endangerment, child abuse, drugs and other illicit activities, as well as the disturbing information from Carvenhorn (Horned Hunter) about a gang of Giants operating to the north of Rhydin. Dinosaurs (Supersaur Love): The Troodon nicknamed Pinfeathers has apparently made himself at home somewhere near the Silver Moon Inn. The beast has taken to making new friends and earned a new one defending Rhiannon D. Brock from the unwanted advances of a demon. Why? Why would a prehistoric beast defend a mammal? He didn't wish to mate with her, he didn't wish to eat her...he left after the incident was over. Why would he do it? He now knows 4 words in common. The young pair of Brachiosaurs have gone missing also. How do two 10 ton beasties just go missing? No tracks or carcasses give them away. Doctor Maranya Tatiana Valkonan (Maranya Valkonan): She's tending to her patients as usual, including one of the tenders at the Silver Moon Inn. The good Doctor continues to spend time volunteering her medical services at a local free clinic and continues to consult with Doctor Jacobs about a mutual patient. Maranya is taking more time to personally supervise the landscaping on her ranch again and she is very pleased with the work so far. Dris (Bard GaIIant): The bard has been spending far more time at home as of late. While at home, however, he has found himself prone to looking longly at alcohol advertisements. Paying by the armload to replace certain pieces of furniture that have been destroyed by Carmine's son is no laughing matter. On top of that, he has had to suffer listening to the Spaniard's retellings of strange and eerie dreams concerning the boy. His hands have found less use for piano playing and more use for back massages lately, as he is trying every thing imaginable to calm Carmine's nerves. And it sure as hell isn't easy. Elaine (Elaine Aqua): Elaine is hitting the books once again as school's started for her at Northedge Academy. She hasn't repeated her mistake of exploring late at night again. Maybe she's learned her lesson after her grounding. Elaine really misses her brother Banshee (Banshee Aqua) and really truly doesn't believe he's truly gone. Emmy (Empress Grayfur): The Empress Emerald of Grayfur has found a new interest in yarn that she thought she had done away with since kittenhood. Several skeins have gone missing in the MacGyldren household due to her venturing off with them and hiding them in obscure corners. Just what is the fat cat up to? Faye: She Who Tends the Dead (Faye Random): The spirit of entropy was drawn to Gem's estate this weekend when she felt the gathering of strong spiritual forces centralized there. She was pleased to see that her previous living charge Mithril (ASaintOfSinners) has been behaving much better around his brethren. Most especially with his brother Kakabel, who has gone through a drastic life change. She left in a hurry, however, when she was drawn to the scent of one of her more usual charges. The words death and violence having something to do with her urgency. Hmte (Invasion of Hmte): The giant ant colony has occupied the Illithid Node in massive force, and it appears that Hmte is starting a creche there. So now the ancient biomantic psionically active fortification is in the possession of titanic carnivorous insects. Great, now even headlong flight won't be enough... Irina Braeden (Irina Braeden): In this week's installment, the only news of note for this native Rhydin resident is she's still got the flu this week. That hasn't kept her from going out a couple of nights, though. Stay tuned. Johnny Hellshot (Johnny Hellshot): Gaining greater control over his psionic energy state, Johnny is left wondering the benefits of such a power, besides being able to catch a peep into the female lockerrooms at the local coliseums. In other phases of his life he has reportedly a second date coming up...Wait! A second date? So the rumor was true. Joker (SMI Joker, Richard D Harker): The flirtatious bartender for the Silver Moon Inn just worked his normal shift the past week. He's worried about his younger brother Nige (Peter N Harker), who he hasn't seen in some time. Joker is currently undergoing anger management counseling along with his usual medical treatments from the Valkyrie (Maranya Valkonan) and has been doing some shopping for Rhi's (Rhiannon D Brock) upcoming birthday. He may even shave his beard off for Rhi, it's that serious. Kakabel (FrameworkMemento): Late Sunday evening, a phenomenal occurrence shook the heavens of the universe. When the stars sang of potential tragedy, they tugged the amnesiatic Kakabel away from a night of peaceful meditation. Learning that his son Rei was in trouble, the ex-fallen angel pulled upon instinct and hurried to the manor of his love (Gemethyst). Upon arriving, he learned that his son is in dire need of some discipline. Yet before he could get down to fatherly business, the situation took on a drastic turn. Both Gem and her son Rei returned a few items to Kakabel that he forgot he had been missing. The moment that he grasped hold of his lost starfire sword and angelical medallion, a flood of lost memories assaulted his brain. Within instants he was returned to his former glory, no longer a framework memento but now a whole entity. The heavens rejoiced at the return of the general of the celestial armies. Just as Gem rejoiced that her once lover finally remembered who she was. Much forgiveness and reuniting was in order after that. As well as some necessary "house cleaning." Kulkem (Kulkem): The awful events of the Hag and the Tower as started in The Plea have reached their conclusion as of Friday night. Kulkem's activities as of now are unknown - he is presumed to be resting. Melly (Melanie Wyndham): Will the shy relief baker at Ariana's Divine Delights Bakery ever tend bar at the Silver Moon Inn? The world may never know. Mer Harriss (Heavy Metal Mer): Mer was spotted this weekend at Gem's estate during the time in which Rei went on a psycho-teenager rampage. Mithril/Gadreel/Lusus (ASaintOfSinners): Rumor has it that the workaholic was killed earlier this week at the Silver Moon Inn. Someone placed a bomb in his motorcycle, and when he turned the key it blew up with him on it. There was no trace of a body to be found, and shortly after this accident the area was struck with dangerous lightning and hurricane force winds, so anything that transpired after that is a mystery. As time wore on, Mithril was seen leaving a temple to Ishtar with Terry. Presumably he was resurrected somehow. Even later in the week, he paid a visit to Gem's estate to help mediate a dispute between her and her son. Things did not work out exactly in that fashion when Kakabel returned. However, Mithril was finally able to help break the last seal that had been placed upon Kakabel, who now has his memories fully restored. He asked his brother Kakabel to forgive him for what he had done, and was forgiven. Have the two brothers actually reconciled? It does appear to be so. Monsters (MonstrusAppetite): No monsters have been seen (relating to Will anyway) beyond what Will found and what Yee experienced. The Dilophosaur and the Allosaur are nowhere to be seen. Large Theropod tracks are lacking, while Crite and Mechannibal signs are growing. Is the end near? Mozart (Amadeus Felidae): The cat is actually behaving right now. Pleione (Stellar Balinese): Secretly the balinese is rejoicing at the return of her man's memories! Rachael MacLeod (RachaeI MacLeod): Apparently, Rae has taken the phrase barefoot and pregnant to heart. She was overheard exclaiming that she'd forgotten her shoes because she can't see her feet to know if they are on or not. Ramiel (Ember Shade): The long lost angellic brother was also reported to be present at Gem's estate during the chaos of Rei's temper-tantrum. Rumor has it that he was there helping to console Gem to the best of his abilities. More than that is not known. Rei (Amethyst Starfall): Rei finally snapped while paying a visit to the Rambling Rose Tavern, and he saw his mother being friendly with a drow priest of the Spider Queen. He has had a loathing for this one for some time now, for it is a well known fact that the Spider Queen is an evil goddess, and her priests are not much better. He took his drinking glass and bashed it over the drow priest's head and would have been content with that, but things erupted. Rei was in disguise at the time and his mother did not recognize him. Thinking that some stranger had just attacked her friend, his mother attacked her son. The drow priest also got in on the act, and the fight was taken outside. Outside, Rei took a dagger and tried to kill the priest, but missed. Eventually Mer came and helped put a stop to this. Mother and son were driven home to help settle this. It is unknown what became of the drow priest. Rhiannon D. Brock (Rhiannon D Brock): Rhi was spotted heading upstairs with the Silver Moon's resident flirt barjockey, Joker. A remark or two from the peanut gallery downstairs was heard regarding having fun. Is there more going on than the pair allude to? Salvador (Peculiar Silence): NWork, work, work ... all day long. The younger Spaniard has been doing next to nothing since being grounded to the house. Aside from school, nothing. The whispers have been restless and he has been ignoring them to the best of his ability, but it is proving exceedingly difficult. Not only has he torn up his mattress in a fit of annoyed rage, but he has also broken his bedroom armoire into thousands of itty-bitty pieces. He's not sure how much more house arrest he can stand before he loses his sanity once and for all. The Cloaked One (The Multifarious): The cloaked figure who has been taking an interest in the affair of the hag from it's beginning, is now in the tower of the Master Fleshtender, Cryptopakolips the Unseasoned, having something ... done to him. It is a him. And although there has been the suggestion in the past that this creature had tentacles on his face, it is also clear that he is not an Illithid. The details remain unclear at this time. Will (William 005 May): Will has found evidence that the Crites and the Mechannibals have been 'seeded' about the Silver Moon Inn. He is not sure who he should tell, he doesn't want to cause a panic. He is considering confiding in Caife and Bara, and asking their counsel. Yeehaw Kikass (YeeHaw M Kikass): Yee has given up wearing shoes/boots. What's next, no pants? Let's hope not. Yee is spending his current time between hunting the Spaniard, getting tangled up in Will's saga, proving his dominance to a certain annoying puppyboi, hallucinating, and drinking. Zohak (ABafflingEnigma): Zohak is still trying to figure out the world. He paid a late night visit to the Silver Moon Inn with Makatiel and had fun watching the interactions of others. The strangest thing he saw were two so called wolf demons singing what they called wolf demon songs. He and Makatiel joined along, though their singing was not exactly welcome. ClassifiedsAriana's Divine Delights Bakery : Mutual Endeavors and Ubique's Weekly would like to invite all our readers to become a part of a Rhydin-wide phenomenon that has long since slipped under the noses of the populace.
