It seems that the recent server update came with a few complications that I have only just recently noticed. Today I am working on some maintenance. Yesterday I did some work on the upcoming newsletter. There are some things I thought the membership needed to be informed about. So here it goes.
Removed: From the sidebar main menu, I have recently removed the Mutual Wiki and the BETA TESTER CHAT. These two items, when the links were clicked, brought up windows that informed me of a failure to access the programming. I am considering leaving these items off the main menu in any case due to lack of use. While the wiki was an interesting idea, it seems that nobody, including myself, was actually very interested in making use of it, therefore I've simply removed it from the list.
Favorites: For the longest time now I have been trying to determine whether or not to keep the Member Favorites and Your Favorites sections. My indecision has been mostly to do with the fact that I am uncertain precisely how this system works. Then I did some poking around in the administration area.
Currently, only these types of articles can be added to Your Favorites: News and Newsflashes, of which I only use one group. This function works with the mXcomment system that allows you to comment on news articles. I have removed this function from the FAQs, Ubique's Monthly and UW Archives for aesthetic purposes. I didn't want the newsletter and FAQs cluttered up with user comments. However...
I would like to include the option of allowing members to list a newsletter issue or FAQ article as a favorite article. To do this, I'm going to have to do more work. I can set the mXcomment program to a manual setting, in which case I'm going to have to go through and edit all previous articles to not allow standard commenting, to avoid that unwanted clutter.
Offline: By the end of this month I am expected to be unavailable. We are moving to a new location. During this time it is likely that the next newsletter may not be published on its expected date. I will try to set up the program to publish anyway, but as you should be aware by now I've been having problems with the programming for that. Joomla! still takes a lot of learning.
Domain Name: Our domain name will need to be renewed by June 14, 2008. Please do not allow me to forget to do that. Without our domain name, we have no website. Soon after that, I will need to also renew our contract with Bellweb Services so that we had another year of a pretty website.
Our first year as a website anniversary is just around the corner. Can you believe it?
