Ubique's Weekly

A Mutual Endeavors Publication

Issue #54 ~ 6 September 2004

The Blurb

Hello once again my fellow storytellers! So much to say and so little time. To be quite honest, I'm once again lacking in extravagant words this week. If you haven't noticed, I once again neglected to send out a weekly reminder. Work, work, work. C'est la vie. Suffice it to say, I'm extremely grateful for all of the updates I did receive this week. Thank you to one and all who sent in submissions. I'm not going to bore you all by rambling on as I have a tendency to do. Let's just get on with the news!

Storyline Spotlight

Recently I received word from one of our dedicated readers about an intriguing storyline. Apparently there is a player out there who is trying to revive forgotten memories of the good old days. The way RP used to be, in some opinions. Hopefully in the future I will be receiving a complete write-up on the storyline in question and will be able to share it with all of you here. From the gist that was sent to me, I perceive this storyline to have once been a guild. But we all know how out of season guilds are nowadays. The mastermind behind the story mentioned that there is no desire to continue on with the guild idea so much as there is a desire to recruit decent role-players to join in on the fun. I would like to share all of the juicy details with all of you in future issues. Let this be a big hint to the storyline mastermind. Heh heh heh. Until then!

This Just In

Don't expect too much in the way of Headlines this week. It's true that there are always a handful to read through, but it's hardly record-breaking. Still! It's all entertaining! Thank you to those of you who sent in collaborative submissions.

Headlines

Busy Goddesses: Over the course of the past few months, Mistresses Mallora and Valleana of the Temple of Love & Ecstasy have become exceedingly busy. The realms should know that while the family may not be around for quite some time due to business that needs taken care of on their homeworld of Valtash, the Temple still remains open to the public. So feel free to visit at any time. The mother and daughter duo can still be reached by mail (or e-mail) should there be any desire or need to contact them.

Fall Into Adventure: The Kodiak Falls Office of Blackjack Adventures is open for business. Contact Administrative Director of Operations This e-mail address is being protected from spam bots, you need JavaScript enabled to view it to schedule an adventure package with Chasz Havery, BJA's resident Mudbogger (See Classifieds for more details).

The Blackjack Family would like to extend our gratitude to those who made our inaugural season such a success. As a token of our gratitude, summer clients will receive discounts on select fall packages. It's just our way of thanking you for your loyalty.

Increasingly Immense Activity: It appears that yet another Giant might be attempting to join the gang North of town. Precise details are scant, but several wagonloads of foodstuffs have gone missing. Not wrecked, or raided -- missing. In otherwise crowded areas. There were signs of giantish activity, footprints and the like, but the signs are oddly obscured. More on this later, we hope.

Update: It is known that very rarely, a Giant's metabolism will go out of control. Its digestive process becomes hyperactive, which begins to produce vast amounts of biomass, which regenerates its injuries, a process which causes a link in the afflicted Giant's brain, which in turn causes it to interpret all distress as hunger. Its appetite surges, and it begins to eat everything in sight -- but mostly meat. Whatever kind of Giant it was before becomes unimportant, and it is then a Gluttony Giant.

One night last week, the Silver Moon Inn was visited by a Gluttony Giant, a mountainously obese creature named Magheath. It threatened the stables, but was eventually killed by the combined efforts of Puriel and Makatiel. The two celestials volatized and cremated the erstwhile Cloud Giant, but not before it revealed that it was headed North to join the Giant Gang, having heard of the Feastmaker and his amazing culinary powers. It seems that if the Giant Gang isn't destroyed soon, it is just going to grow.

The bones of Magheath resisted burning, and were left in a clearing near the Silver Moon Inn.

Monetary Lack of Value: In perhaps a completely unrelated event of crime, authorities at the local RPD informed us today of yet another murder. The body of Howard Conway, a loan officer at the local Rhy'Din Savings and Loan, was discovered literally stapled to the wall of a lower East Rhy'Din warehouse this past weekend. Co-workers who were questioned in regards to Mr. Conway's potential enemies all responded mutually that "Howard has always been such a nice man." None could conclude that he did indeed have any enemies who would want him dead. Though several were in agreement that sometimes customers became irate when their applications for a loan were turned down. "No one ever took it that personally, though," remarked window teller Sandra Bowers.

While officials have no absolute reason to believe that this murder is at all related to the murders of Becky Johnson (waitress of The Turning Spit) and Patricia Miller (studen of Rhy'Din University), one official in question is quoted as stating "That is a possibility." The press has yet to be informed of any forensics information, but intends on sharing it with the public as it comes to us. Anyone with further information regarding these killings is strongly urged to contact This e-mail address is being protected from spam bots, you need JavaScript enabled to view it as soon as possible.

Obituary on the Wall: Visitors of the Silver Moon Inn may have noticed an obscure message carved on the wall of the men's restroom. More than likely only the male visitors of the Inn would have noticed, but who are we to argue otherwise? The message reads:

Wanwa
Resto en Paz
el 31 de Agosto

No one is completely certain who is responsible for this graffiti, and even fewer are sure what it means. One thing is for certain; it seems to be an obituary. Though why anyone would carve those words on the wall of the men's restroom of a public establishment remains a mystery.

On The Crime Beat: Anyone with information in the case of the murder of one Larry "Grabber" Nelson, a perpetrator previously charged with five counts of aggravated assault and two counts of petty theft, around the Silver Moon Inn as of February 29th, 2004, the kidnapping of Irina Braeden on March 21st, 2004, the alleged assault of Morgan Knight at the Silver Moon Inn on April 6th, 2004 and the whereabouts of Paul and Mary Hanson is strongly urged to contact This e-mail address is being protected from spam bots, you need JavaScript enabled to view it .

Red Dragon News: There really isn't anything new to report concerning the Red Dragon Inn. Same as last week to the best of our knowledge. Any questions can be addressed to the official RDI correspondant This e-mail address is being protected from spam bots, you need JavaScript enabled to view it .

Rhydin Baywatch?: Rhydin Shore Patrol is still investigating a massacre at what appears to have been a luau. Details on the shooting spree are being withheld by authorities. A total of twenty-six people were shot to death with a variety of weapons. Until further notice, a square mile of Rhydin's coast is closed to the public.

Rise of the Hunter: Earlier this past week at the Silver Moon Inn, a not so rare occurrence turned itself into a battle versus good and evil. Early Friday morning a monstrosity decided to pay a visit to the Inn. A beast whose primary purpose was to find itself a meal. The demon picked the wrong victim in the manner of an elven ranger who is rumored to go by the name of Alquin (Woodland Shield). Witnesses proclaim that the elf was kind enough to take the battle outside. However, this unfortunately put Ariana MacGyldren and her canine companions (Grand Menageri) in the middle of the fray as well. The warrior elf did a fair job of tackling the evil creature on his own, but was very thankful for the assistance of the headstrong canines and their green-skinned woman friend. A victory was won at the Silver Moon Inn that morning as the mighty beast came tumbling down. Unfortunately on Alquin's legs. There are no reports to his whereabouts since then, as it is rumored some local residents would like to award him with some sort of gifts for his service to society. Perhaps they'll see him again?

In Other News...

Individual Character Updates are few and far between this week, but we do have news! Thank you once again to one and all who contributed. Remember that there are to date 126 characters listed on the updating template. Some fall into mutual categories. Regardless of receiving so few updates, I am continuing the trend by omitting those names in which I did not receive updates for. Just to avoid unnecessary blank space.

Ahriman (TheAngraMaiynu): He has quite firmly dropped out of the public eye. That is either a good or a bad thing depending on how one looks at it.

Anna (AriannaRavenwood): The blue sister privately helped her twin Ariana (ArianaMacGyldren) with some artwork for the Bakery this past week. There's still no word on whether Arianna will return to her husband's clan lands to rejoin her husband Galen (Galen Ravenwood) and her son Brion or if she will remain in Rhydin a bit longer.

Ariana (ArianaMacGyldren): The green sister, along with her husband Galen (Galen MacGyldren) and daughter Elaine (Elaine Aqua), still resides at her husband and brother in law's clan lands. During a recent visit Ariana made to the Silver Moon Inn, she got to see a few family members, met a new friend Alquin (Woodland Shield) and healed injuries for Alquin, one of his animal companions and some of her own animal companions (Grand Menagerie) as well. Other than her public appearance, privately working on advertising artwork for the Bakery with her twin Arianna (AriannaRavenwood) and working at the Bakery, the green sister still is in private mourning and continues to plot to avenge her son Banshee's murder.

Azazel (Erubescite): Az is becoming fond of the (mostly) quiet little tavern called the Rambling Rose, and the quiet little couple that runs it, and their adorable new baby. After all, he has been a family man for, uh. A while. So he was dismayed at the near collapse of the husband, and stayed around while his brother Cassiel administered a well-needed gentle scolding. It is hard for him to watch mortals be stubborn, especially when it results in tears!

Calypso (Lady Proudfoot): She found the one that could use her company, and has decided to settle with him while a certain Ringwatcher deals with his duties.

Carmine (Taciturn Merc, SMI Carmine): Much to his relief, the troubling dreams appear to have stopped. He has dismissed all of these as worry over his son. He gets to take his kid to the doctor this week, and is not looking forward to the experience, but very much needs to know what he can do to help his son through this dark time.

Cassiel (InvertedDarkness): Sometimes it is not easy being an angel and having to say no when you would dearly love to say yes. He visited the Rambling Rose and found that Seamus was working himself to a state of collapse. He actually put his foot down and insisted that the man go rest.

Deputy Marshall Wynter (Rachael Wynter): The scarred law woman in black is working on wrapping up certain investigations (see Headlines). She's frustrated in her efforts because to date no one has yet to come forward with any information. Rachael continues to investigate a long-standing case which involves child and adult prostitution, child endangerment, child abuse, drugs and other illicit activities, as well as the disturbing information from Carvenhorn (Horned Hunter) about a gang of Giants operating to the north of Rhydin.

Doctor Maranya Tatiana Valkonan (Maranya Valkonan): She's tending to her patients as usual, including one of the tenders at the Silver Moon Inn. The good Doctor continues to spend time volunteering her medical services at a local free clinic and continues to consult with Doctor Jacobs about a mutual patient. Maranya is taking more time to personally supervise the landscaping on her ranch again and she is very pleased with the work so far. She took time out to briefly visit the Rambling Rose Tavern this past week and left Seamus (Seamus Wylie) an aromatherapy remedy to ease the restless sleep of his infant son Liam.

Dris (Bard GaIIant, SMI Dris): The bard is very relieved that Carmine is no longer suffering from crazy bad dreams. It's nice having the Spaniard a lot more relaxed around the house. Now ... if he could just get him to stop worrying so much about his son! Maybe get him to go out and be sociable from time to time. Anything but being so blasted morose! Because...damnit...he misses the activity of the Inns and Taverns! Especially after the good times he's been a part of the past few weeks. It would be nice if the mercenary shared his time during these excursions.

Ehzoterik VonArcanum Tempestas (Ehzoterik): An eyewitness report claims that Ehz was suspected of leaving her Limbo santuary earlier this week when a ghost decided to make use of the closet door as a way of entering the Silver Moon Inn. Ah, much dismay. Alas, it was not Ehz.

Elaine (Elaine Aqua): Elaine is hitting the books once again as school's started for her at Northedge Academy. She hasn't repeated her mistake of exploring late at night again. Maybe she's learned her lesson after her grounding. Or maybe the crafty ten year old is still trying to figure out ways to sneak out without getting caught. Elaine really misses her brother Banshee (Banshee Aqua) and really truly doesn't believe he's truly gone.

Emmy (Empress Grayfur): Can cats knit? It seems this one is trying to figure out how. Why else would she need so much yarn?

Faye: She Who Tends the Dead (Faye Random): The spirit of entropy paid a visit to the Rambling Rose Tavern earlier this week. Perhaps she really is being more active than usual? Despite the fact that it took a very long time for someone to invite her inside, she did enjoy the company of her son Mesteno (Bronze Mesteno) for a short while before he departed. Also enjoying the company of Seamus and Rose, Faye definitely seems to be moving around a lot recently. Visiting old and new haunts. Though there are some who argue that she should not be wandering around at all, for certain unexplained reasons.

Gem (Gemethyst, SMI Gem): Gem has been out of town for over a week now. Her whereabouts unknown, even by magical means. None have been informed as to why, not even Rei. Mer was given the information that she was not going to be around for awhile, trusting her to spread that news to those who would care. And now, at midnight, a shadow could be noted...by those who were very, very good at penetrating shadow...heading towards her manor. A travel weary Gem on her way home.

Irina Braeden (Irina Braeden): In this week's installment, the only news of note for this native Rhydin resident is she's still slowly recovering from the flu this week. That hasn't kept her from going out a couple of nights, though. Stay tuned.

Jim Smith (TheSpiritRemains): Stopped by the Rose briefly this week to scold and thank Cassiel for some mysterious meddling he has done that has him being compared to Anael, the Angel of Love. Hmmm.

Joker (SMI Joker, Richard D Harker): The flirtatious bartender for the Silver Moon Inn worked his normal shift the past week. He is, however, planning to take Rhi (Rhiannon D Brock) on another private getaway weekend in the future, so he may be asking the Jadeskinned dollface for another favor. Joker is still worried about his younger brother Nige (Peter N Harker). The elder Harker brother is currently undergoing anger management counseling along with his usual medical treatments from the Valkyrie (Maranya Valkonan). In other news, thanks to the combined efforts of Rhi, Twelve and Dris (Rhiannon D Brock, The Multifarious, BardGaIIant), the world finally got to see the SMI's resident flirt...blush.

Kakabel (CelestialSorrow): The re-ascended General of the Stars took an opportunity to pay a visit to a comrade in arms earlier this week. Acting upon the request he received, he went to see what it was precisely Captain Hariss (Heavy Metal Mer) wanted to discuss with him. The news was quite unsettling, despite his stoic presentation while hearing it all. While he is certain Mer is uncomfortable with him, he does intend on trying to alter her opinion by helping as much as he can. Who knew taking care of his family could be so troublesome?

Mallora (Ma11ora): See this week's Headlines.

Melly (Melanie Wyndham): Will the shy relief baker at Ariana's Divine Delights Bakery ever tend bar at the Silver Moon Inn? The world may never know.

Micarryl (Still More Drow): Mica cas ulu alu ulu magthere xuil Rei nin! Uk loren pholor ulu ol drill whol uss klez...l' magthere kluthak tlu retlah d' darthiir. Uk orn naut kre'j jalbol, drill ol zhah khruste uk orn inbal ulu sslig'ne uktan. Uk orn fridj inbal tlu kyone...

Mithril/Gadreel/Lusus (ASaintOfSinners): He has spent most of the week arranging a funeral for his fallen friend Will, who tragically lost his life during the great battle. War is never pretty, but sometimes a sadly needed occurrence. That is at least what Mithril says.

In other news, he has seen to it that Rei's friend Mica can attend school and was greatly assisted in this endeavor by Terry. Terry is going to return to teaching and he briefly entertained the notion of joining him in this, but learned that the one position he is qualified to teach has been filled.

Mozart (Amadeus Felidae): The cat is still behaving right now, but is getting a little restless.

Parhi Grimjaws (The Multifarious): Early reports say that she is back in town, although there have been few sightings so far. More later.

Pleione (Stellar Balinese): While Rei has been spending his time at school, and Kakabel has been spending his time attending to his duties, the balinese has found herself quite alone. Especially since Gem has been gone as well. Not much else for a cat to do other than make certain that EVERY piece of furniture as claimed as her own, right? Those scratch marks just add to the character of the item. Hopefully nobody minds. If that nasty black-skinned elf has a problem with it, though, well then ... she won't have any problems leaving her scent all over Rei. Just to make sure he knows who's boss around the manor.

Rei (Amethyst Starfall): Rei appears to take actual delight in making the dean wince, though he is having to pay the price in extended detentions and even some community service. His saving grace is the fact that he has taken Cat's suggestion and is going to join the football team. He also is considering the drama team and the archery team. He is also continuing his private studies with his uncles and his father. Even his mother has a few things for him to learn. Does this winged teen ever sleep? He seems determined to learn all he can.

Salvador (Peculiar Silence): Much to his father's dismay, he is still sneaking out of the house at night. Though after an incident that occurred at the start of the weekend, he is beginning to doubt that he has much energy to face his friends again. At the time he had been unaware of his fuguing, but every now and then a memory resurfaces in a dream. Despite the fact that it has been exceedingly more difficult to fall asleep, he has been refusing to give into wanderlust since that evening. School is more important. And thanks to a gift that Dris gave him, he is finding that falling asleep is becoming much easier. Especially when so many voices aren't keeping him awake!

Terrance Tomar-Duncan (Terrance Tomar): Most of this week has been recovery from battle, funeral planning or other miscellaneous planning, including helping to get a student enrolled at Northedge. He is going back to teaching there now and will be taking on an 8th grade math class and his old class, Common As A Second Language. He may speak to the dean about offering a course in hobbit language as well, if time allows. He was worried about the 8th-graders running all over him, but the shock of seeing Halavar Arenson walk into the Rambling Rose alive this weekend has brought back memories that have him behaving a little...assertively. Watch out, brats.

Valleana (Va11eana): See this week's Headlines.

Yoshi (KitsuneNineTails): The only news that anyone managed to get out of the kitsune is that one should beware of the evilness of pink. He also claims that yellow can be pretty frightening too.

Zohak (ABafflingEnigma): Due to the fact that Zohak misbehaved in the Rambling Rose Tavern and broke the ward to get back to the kitchen, he has had his legos taken away for two weeks. He was also made to put the ward back up.

Announcements

After reviewing past issues and such, I'm not too sure whether or not I like the format I came up with. Too impersonal. Who cares if it takes up space. The more the merrier, right? Anyway, I only have one announcement this week regardless. This Tuesday (September 7, 2004) is mine and my husband's first year wedding anniversary. We will both be taking Tuesday and Wednesday off from work and spending some much needed personal time together. After this issue, do not expect to see me online until maybe Thursday evening. If I can swindle him into letting me get online. And if I'm feeling up to it. Everybody else? Don't have too much fun without me!

Final Thoughts

Like I said, nothing too spectacular this week. Though I am still greatly pleased and impressed with the amount of news I received. I hope everyone enjoyed reading this newsletter as much as I enjoyed writing it.

Updates: Always remember that any future Ubique's Weekly submissions are always due the Sunday before every expected delivery date. UW is issued every Monday morning to afternoon, depending on how long it takes me to put everything together and send it off to the printers. Comments, questions, updates, additions, announcements, advertisements, etceteras are always welcome for every issue. While some may make it to the front page, there is no guarantee that all submissions will be printed. However, your thoughts are always encouraged to be shared. Just remember to send all of these aforementioned things to This e-mail address is being protected from spam bots, you need JavaScript enabled to view it no later than Sunday at midnight EST.

Just a reminder, I'm STILL looking for an able-bodied individual to take over for me as UW's Archive Editor. Any interested parties should take a look at the Classifieds section and mail me a response. I look forward to hearing from each and every one of you, as always. From now until the Internet and the role-playing worlds cease to be, I'll continue to be...

Keeping you informed,
