Ubique's Weekly

A Mutual Endeavors Publication

Issue #55 ~ 14 September 2004

The Blurb

Greetings and salutations one and all! Notice anything different about this week's edition of Ubique's Weekly? Those with a keen attention to detail should pick it up immediately. For the rest of you, I'll just let the poor kitty out of the bag here. The Nefarious SM has come to a decision. After many weeks of pondering, I have decided that from here on out Ubique's Weekly will be issued on every Tuesday instead of every Monday. It just seems to work out better that way. I get a hell of a lot more updates sent to me when I wait those extra twenty-four hours. And more often than not, I don't even have to send out a reminder. Hell. This week I was amazed by some of the updates I received. Some even from players I had thought had fallen off of the face of the virtual world!

But enough of that. I'll mention it again I'm sure. Probably at the end of this issue. This week I have lots of news to share with you eager players out there, and I'm sure you just want to get on with the reading. So ... without further ado, here's this week's news!

Storyline Spotlight

This week's UW theme falls under the category of SUBTLE HINTS!!! Which probably aren't that subtle. Seeing as how I am being very forward and blunt about it all. There are some storylines in particular that I would like to see take the center stage here. A few in particular that I was hoping to receive news on week's ago! Especially considering that so much time has passed already within them. Last week I talked about a mysterious storyline. One in which I have yet to receive word about. Hopefully the player in charge of the storyline will get to writing. Especially since I am informed that he or she is very eager to draw more numbers to the cause. But ... alas. I will be as patient as my own time allows.

The storyline that I am extremely eager to share information on is the Northedge University storyline. Word has it that school is back in season. Not only in the real world, but for our young characters as well. There is a lot of information concerning the start of the school year that I have only heard through word of mouth. From other players. So as my SUBTLE HINT of the week, I would like to send out some encouragment to the masterminds behind Northedge University to write me up a synopsis. There are quite a handful of played characters who attend Northedge, and we here at Ubique's feel it would be beneficial to the role-playing community to spread that necessary information to one and all in one enormous write-up. Questions arise! Such as: When did the school season start exactly? How much does tuition cost? What are the students expected to wear (I heard something about uniforms somewhere)? What sort of curriculum is involved? Etc... etc...

Use your imaginations! Fill us in where ours go blank! There is only so much we know about Northedge University, and so much more that we do not know. Hopefully this little fit of rambling here is encouraging enough to inspire. I would really love to input all of this seemingly tedious information into the next issue of Ubique's Weekly. And I'm sure our readers would love to read about it too!

This Just In

Still no records broken, but this week's Headlines are still informative and entertaining. Thank you to those of you who sent in collaborative submissions this week!

Headlines

Baba Yaga's Mobile Hut!: During the course of a confrontation between Irina Braeden and a very wealthy seeming woman named Helena St Clare, the Chicken-legged hut that has been sitting in the Silver Moon Inn parking lot got up and clambered up on top of Madam St Clare's Rolls Royce. The luxury back seat section has now been badly crumpled, but otherwise the vehicle is relatively undamaged. The tow company, however, has been reluctant to try to move it. So the semi-permanent ornament to the Silver Moon's parking lot has a new twist - it incorporates a large expensive automobile.

Fall Into Adventure: The Kodiak Falls Office of Blackjack Adventures is open for business. Contact Administrative Director of Operations This e-mail address is being protected from spam bots, you need JavaScript enabled to view it to schedule an adventure package with Chasz Havery, BJA's resident Mudbogger (See Classifieds for more details).

The Blackjack Family would like to extend our gratitude to those who made our inaugural season such a success. As a token of our gratitude, summer clients will receive discounts on select fall packages. It's just our way of thanking you for your loyalty.

On The Crime Beat: Anyone with information in the case of the murder of one Larry "Grabber" Nelson, a perpetrator previously charged with five counts of aggravated assault and two counts of petty theft, around the Silver Moon Inn as of February 29th, 2004, the kidnapping of Irina Braeden on March 21st, 2004, the alleged assault of Morgan Knight at the Silver Moon Inn on April 6th, 2004 and the whereabouts of Paul and Mary Hanson is strongly urged to contact This e-mail address is being protected from spam bots, you need JavaScript enabled to view it .

Rhydin Baywatch?: Rhydin Shore Patrol is still investigating a massacre at what appears to have been a luau. Details on the shooting spree are being withheld by authorities. A total of twenty-six people were shot to death with a variety of weapons. Until further notice, a square mile of Rhydin's coast is closed to the public.

Schoolhouse Blues: The body of Bannister Elementary's fifth grade school teacher Stella Donaldson was found this past weekend. Mrs. Donaldson was reported missing since Monday afternoon when fellow teachers claim she did not show up for school. The principal called her home but received no answer. According to RPD authorities who were willing to talk about the case, Mrs. Donaldson has lived alone as a widow for the past twenty years. She started teaching shortly after her husband was killed in a saw mill accident. "She liked children very much, and her and her husband were never to have any of her own," claims one source. Some of the children questioned always said that "Mrs. Donaldson's always been real strict." Some even say that they did not like her.

Despite these mixed messages, authorites think it very unlikely that any of the children Mrs. Donaldson has instructed could have been responsible for her untimely demise. The body of Mrs. Donaldson was found literally sewn to the framework of an old fashioned spinning wheel (used to turn wool into thread or yarn). Whoever was behind this dasterdly deed must have been more educated than a mere fifth grader. Authorities still have no evidence that can lead them to a suspect. However, there are beliefs that this crime may have been committed by the same individual responsible for other murders: Howard Conway (loan officer at Rhy'Din Savings and Loan), Becky Johnson (waitress at the Turning Spit), and Patricia Miller (student at the University of Rhy'Din). Authorities are starting to believe that all of these crimes are linked together, but are uninclined as to specify why. Anyone with further information on these killings is strongly urged to contact This e-mail address is being protected from spam bots, you need JavaScript enabled to view it as soon as possible.

In Other News...

Individual Character Updates are once again few and far between. But that is mostly due to the fact that there are a grand total of 126 characters listed on the updating template. Some of these fall into mutual categories, but still. That is an astounding number! Once again I will be ommitting the names of those characters in which I did not receive updates for. But don't let that deter you from sending in updates in the future. The more the merrier! Thank you once again to all who contributed updates this week.

Ahriman (TheAngraMaiynu): He has quite firmly dropped out of the public eye. That is either a good or a bad thing depending on how one looks at it.

Anna (AriannaRavenwood): The blue sister stayed out of the public eye this past week. There's still no word on whether Arianna will return to her husband's clan lands to rejoin her husband Galen (Galen Ravenwood) and her son Brion or if she will remain in Rhydin a bit longer.

Ariana (ArianaMacGyldren): The green sister, along with her husband Galen (Galen MacGyldren) and daughter Elaine (Elaine Aqua), still resides at her husband and brother in law's clan lands. During a recent visit Ariana made to the Silver Moon Inn, she visited with her dear friend Faye (Faye Random) and her canines (Grand Menagerie) , one of which has adopted a lamb as their "baby". Other than her public appearance and working at the Bakery, the green sister still is in private mourning and continues to plot to avenge her son Banshee's murder.

Azazel (Erubescite): All those with little to no fashion sense are advised to clear the streets until further notice. The Dragon is, as his/her brother Mithril so scientifically put it upon discovery, "gravid", and until eggs have been laid it seems mood swings and bizarre snacks are in the forecast. It is also advisable that no one mention the word "polyester" as this seems to have somewhat cataclysmic effects, especially in reference to maternity clothing.

Calypso (Lady Proudfoot): She has settled in quite nicely. Someone out there definitely knows how to treat feline royalty.

Carmine (Taciturn Merc, SMI Carmine): Faced with the fact that his son has incurable wanderlust, he has decided to just accept that. After all, there are far worse things the boy could be doing other than explore the land. He is also reminded of his own boyhood escapades and has decided to share some of these with his son over morning breakfasts.

Cassiel (InvertedDarkness): He has been a very busy angel. Every now and then he has stopped by the Rambling Rose Tavern for a quick visit, and even helped clean up one fine night.

Chase LeMonde (Chase LeMonde): This past Sunday night during their evening visit to the Silver Moon, Chase got the shock of his life when his one-time fiancee, Adrienne, popped the question on him. Needless to say, Rhydin's favorite ragin' cajun lawman, after making absolutely certain it wasn't a joke, wholeheartedly said yes. No wedding date or location has been set as of yet. Sorry ladies, this bachelor's off the market.

Colleen MacLeod (PrlUnicorn, SMI Colleen): Collie was seen trying to defuse a heated discussion between Bobby (R Lee Hatchar) and Bri (SabrielleMarrick) over divorce and custody of their children. A woman friend of Bobby's, whose name was reportedly Brigid (Brigid S Murphy), had been taking up Bobby's side of the argument despite knowing Bobby a short time. It seems the lady backed off quickly when Collie stepped up to the plate to get some straight answers. A look that literally turned Bobby's drink to ice seems to have been good deterant to a running mouth.

Deputy Marshall Wynter (Rachael Wynter): The scarred law woman in black is working on wrapping up certain investigations (see Headlines). The scarred law woman in black is working on wrapping up certain investigations (see Headlines). She's frustrated in her efforts because to date no one has yet to come forward with any information. Rachael continues to investigate a long-standing case which involves child and adult prostitution, child endangerment, child abuse, drugs and other illicit activities, as well as the disturbing information from Carvenhorn (Horned Hunter) about a gang of Giants operating to the north of Rhydin.

Doctor Maranya Tatiana Valkonan (Maranya Valkonan): She's tending to her patients as usual, including one of the tenders at the Silver Moon Inn. The good Doctor continues to spend time volunteering her medical services at a local free clinic and continues to consult with Doctor Jacobs about a mutual patient. Maranya is taking more time to personally supervise the landscaping on her ranch again and she is very pleased with the work so far. She took time out to briefly visit the Rambling Rose Tavern this past week and paid an emergency late night housecall to the SMI to attend to one of her patients.

Dris (Bard GaIIant, SMI Dris): Thankfully he has not had to keep his mouth shut anymore about the fact that he is aware of Sal's late night escapades. Especially now that Carmine has decided to just accept the fact that his son has a need to explore. All those long hours reminding the Spaniard of the "good old days" in which they used to wander the world seem to have paid off. Now that Carmine is getting some rest and not stressing so much, maybe Dris can relax and enjoy life again. Assuming the kid doesn't come home with another note saying he has detention or suspension ... again.

Elaine (Elaine Aqua): Elaine is hitting the books once again as school's started for her at Northedge Academy. She went out exploring one night this past week to the Rambling Rose Tavern and wasn't caught this time. Elaine really misses her brother Banshee (Banshee Aqua) and really truly doesn't believe he's truly gone.

Emmy (Empress Grayfur): Hopefully nobody goes searching through laundry baskets any time soon. It appears as if the Empress has been building herself a nest. It really wouldn't do for anyone to find out about that. How embarassing!

Faye: She Who Tends the Dead (Faye Random): Earlier this week, the spirit of entropy paid a visit to the Silver Moon Inn. There she spent some time with her dear friend Ariana (ArianaMacGyldren). She would have enjoyed a long evening of peace and quiet, had a particular half-angel not decided to demand knowing what was going on. So she made herself visible long enough to answer a few questions in the best way she knows how: cryptically. Hopefully Rei was satisfied with the answers she was willing to give.

Irina Braeden (Irina Braeden): In this week's installment, the news of note for this native Rhydin resident is she's still slowly recovering from the flu this week and she's finally finding out who's been behind the plot to keep her from drawing her comic book. The flu hasn't kept her from going out a couple of nights, though. Stay tuned.

Jack Bishop (Jackrabbit Blue): Finally the great landscaping project is complete. Rumor has it that next year he is planning on turning the pond in Anya's backyard into a natural swimming hole. Less algae. With autumn on the way, he is planning on turning the Ranch into a "spook-tacular!" He's been reported to have been calling up some of his friends for ideas on a "haunted hayride." Hopefully Doc 'Anya doesn't mind him doing this.

Joker (SMI Joker, Richard D Harker): The flirtatious bartender for the Silver Moon Inn worked his normal shift the past week. He is, however, planning to take Rhi (Rhiannon D Brock) on another private getaway weekend in the future, so he may be asking the Jadeskinned dollface for another favor. Joker is still worried about his younger brother Nige (Peter N Harker). The elder Harker brother is currently undergoing anger management counseling along with his usual medical treatments from the Valkyrie (Maranya Valkonan).

Kakabel (CelestialSorrow): After learning of his son's three-day suspension from school early in the week, the re-ascended prince of stars has been busy trying to come up with the best potential punishment. Though after discussing the matter with some of his closest colleagues (the stars themselves), he decided to first give his son a chance to explain himself. Reports conclude that he took an evening off to follow Rei around and watch him in his element; interacting with his friends and such. Rumor has it that Kakabel is planning to increase Rei's combat and philosophy lessons. To what extreme, though, remains a mystery. There was also something about him intending on speaking to Gem at the earliest opportunity.

Mallora (Ma11ora): Rumor has it that the Mistress of the Temple of Love and Ecstasy is less busy. However, she still has very important matters to attend to. Visitors are still welcome to come to the Temple at any time, though an audience with the Mistress herself will more than likely require an appointment.

Melly (Melanie Wyndham): Will the shy relief baker at Ariana's Divine Delights Bakery ever tend bar at the Silver Moon Inn? The world may never know.

Micarryl (Still More Drow): Micarryl dro'xunus ukt ust huela tangin a magthere tangis' p'luin tluin sei'lor pholor a natha jatha'la akh d' darthiir. Ukt abbil Rei lu' draa byrren, Sal lu' Ronnie (natha jalil!), doerrus ulu sslig'ne ukta, lu' l' huthin llar tangin nind zhahen alus, dobluth whol suxxizz. Nindyn zhahen natha huk'treemma llar tangin drill ol loren saph l' darthien inbal screus l' aster; an'kinen xun naut izin nindol malarin, lu' l' darthien xunus naut tahh Mica tarthe. Hah.

Mithril/Gadreel/Lusus (ASaintOfSinners): The workaholic recently fell victim to a prank that enspelled him to act rather indiscreet. He was seen actually hugging and flirting in public! Witnesses are still waiting for the Four Horsemen of the Apocalypse to arrive.

Mozart (Amadeus Felidae): The cat is still behaving right now, but is getting a little restless.

Nicole Brock Anorlasvessë (Nicole E Brock): Nicole has been busy running the shop that she and her husband, AnorIas, own. Rumor is that she and Anorlas have talked about starting a family of their own.

Parhi Grimjaws (The Multifarious): She's back. Parhi has been seen in the Silver Moon Inn, back to her old self, but a little depressed. She has said that she failed, but what that failure entails she has not yet said.

Pleione (Stellar Balinese): The balinese has taken it upon herself to claim all of the dark-skinned elf's furniture as her own. Especially his bed. Let's see him dare try to shoo her away! Hopefully he didn't need that piece of paper with the word "homework" written on it. It made for a nice net in which to catch that stray hairball ... or two.

Rachael MacLeod (RachaeI MacLeod): Rachael has been seen a couple of times out in public with her lifemate, Sulrin (SMI Sulrin), and enjoying the company of her sister Rhi (Rhiannon D Brock) and Joker (Richard D Harker, SMI Joker).

Word is her trips out will be less as the colder weather sets in. Rae has become a homebody over the last couple of months as she and Sulrin prepare their home for the arrival of their first child in a few months.

Rei (Amethyst Starfall): Rei was suspended from school for three days due to a fight he got into on school grounds. He is also having to come to terms with the fact that his mother will forever do her own thing and he should just accept that. After comparing notes with some people at school he has discovered that he is really no different from any other rich kid when it comes to their parents.

Rhiannon D. Brock (Rhiannon D Brock): Rhi's been busy; her Monday's, Thursdays, and Saturdays are generally spent in the SMI for Lenika's (SMI Lenika, Lenika Marshall) shifts and well and Joker's (Richard D Harker, SMI Joker).

And the answer to the burning question of ... does the Silver Moon's resident flirtacious bartender blush is ... a resounding, "Yes." At least he does for Rhi. Is it possible that she has found a little bit of shyness hiding in the man that someone was overheard calling, the playboy of Soho?

Salvador (Peculiar Silence): Monday at school went fairly well. Tuesday was a different story. Apparently some uppity high elves took it upon themselves to try scaring his friend Mica out of Northedge. Well ... since Sal can't see what they see, he did not understand why. Nor did he look kindly upon the fact that they all decided to dogpile him and try beating the crap out of him. Suffice it to say, Mica wasn't harmed, and Sal earned himself a three day suspension from school. His father wasn't happy, but at least he understood the whys. This week Sal has been very calm, aside from wanting to bust young elf noses. And since his father is starting to realize that grounding just isn't going to keep him from sneaking out of the house at night, things are going well! However, he is dreading that visit to the doctor. Who will be able to understand him like Wanwa did?

Terrance Tomar-Duncan (Terrance Tomar): After being affected by some magical substance that had him all over his fiancé in public in a rather nonpublic manner, he is mortified and was overheard saying something about shaving the fur off at least seven of someone's nine tails.

Twelve (The Multifarious): Has stuck to the inactive daytime hours for his time in the Silver Moon. Apparently, someone told him he needed to get more sun. A troll with a tan? Ummm...

Valleana (Va11eana): Vall is spending a lot of time mimicking her mother. That is, being very busy. With two children to take care of and a Temple as well, she has very little time for herself! Chances are that if anyone wants to see her they are also going to need to schedule an appointment.

Yoshi (KitsuneNineTails): The kitsune might have gone too far with his pranks after tossing one of his magical mishaps onto Terry and Mithril, which made them act very amorous in public. He is now wisely in hiding.

Zohak (ABafflingEnigma): Zohak likes drama. Drama makes people cry and crying is delicious and good. He will not lack for food in Rhydin.

Announcements

Since it is very rarely that I receive an overabundance of announcements, I have been rethinking my previously conspired format. Indeed I think it is too impersonal, and as such I am going to try my best to personalize each and every announcement that I receive. Presuming I have the mindset to do so. This week I only have a few things to share anyway.

Saturday, September 11: I missed out on mentioning it last week, so I'm going to mention it here. Last Saturday was little Mallora's first birthday! No, no. Not the character Mallora that we all know and love, but the player's actual daughter. The Gremlin turned a whole year old! Happy belated birthday, little monster! May there be many more happy growing birthdays for you to come!

Sunday, September 19: This upcoming Sunday is Mutual Endeavors member and Ubique's Weekly reader Ellyn Vt's birthday. So happy birthday, Ellyn Vt! Those of you who know this individual, do not hesitate to send a shout out. In advance, may your birthday be joyous and you have many more to follow! Hopefully it'll be a day worth celebrating, as well it should be!

Final Thoughts

Well, that takes care of another edition of Ubique's Weekly. Seems I'm not feeling to overly wordy again this week. That probably has a lot to do with the fact that I've been recovering from a nasty flu bug that done gone and bit me. Bad bug! I blame it on my husband. It's all his fault you know.

Updates: Will now be due every Monday evening at midnight, as I intend on sending out each issue later on Tuesdays from here on out. Since I'm running out of room here, I'll just let you know that I'll continue to be...

Keeping you informed,
--Nefarious SM
