What is this section all about?

The In Other News... section of the newsletter is dedicated to reporting on individual character updates.  This is information that briefly explains what anyone from a large list of specific characters has been up to in the month previous and may be up to in the month ahead.  The information presented in this section is all provided from our reader base.  Written by players and printed for players for the just in case factor of if, by chance, their friends and comrades happened to miss an event.

Like all the other parts of the newsletter, the In Other News... section is printed in hopes to keep everyone informed of what has happened to whom, when, and where in playland.  It's also a good way to spread that information to your friends.  Save yourself the trouble and effort of writing a dozen private messages and e-mails.  Submit to Ubique's Monthly instead!

How are the character updates organized?

All individual character updates are sorted and presented alphabetically by first name of character.  So if your character is named Sally Jo, her name will show on the list amongst the S names.  Each update is formatted specifically as well.  The character name is highlighted in red-brown bold, with the known screen name or user name of the character included in parentheses next to it.  An example of an accurately formatted individual character update is as follows.

Sally Jo  (My Name):  In the past month, Sally Jo has been busy running her floral business.  Keeping flowers during the winter season is not an easy task.  Her green house nearly collapsed when a snow storm swept through the city... Etcetera and so forth.

In the past, Ubique's covered only news from characters played on AOL.  Therefore all AOL names were included in the parentheses.  However, since Mutual Endeavors has grown and spread its wings to include other places where play happens, recently we have also included characters and user names from such services as Dragon's Mark RDI setting.

Many people still play on both services, and in some cases a character may be listed with more than one known user name.  In these instances, again they are listed alphabetically.  An example from our 100th issue is as follows.

Haydee (Dark Harp String, Her Dark Strings): As of 11/10/07 -- Haydee, after her rather interesting talk with Renley, has apparently holed herself up within her room at the Red Dragon Inn for some rest and deep thought, though she had been spotted a week ago with her Shadow at the Red Dragon. She’s got a lot on her plate, life-decision wise and is taking it with the usual quiet grace and thought.

Much thought has gone into properly formatting future submissions that are different.  For instance, some people play solely on Dragon's Mark and others solely on AOL.  In an effort not to clutter up the layout of the newsletter with unnecessary extra colors, we will not be color coordinating the user names to differentiate.  Besides, we like to keep people guessing.  If you don't already know and would like to find out where these people play, that's a task we put on you.  We're not telling.

A lot can happen in a month, and we understand that.  If at all possible, try to limit your updates to no more than ten sentences.  Summarization is preferred over long and elaborate stories.  In this case you are burdened to tell not show.
