SM's Rhydin Wiki Proposal PDF Print E-mail
Written by SM, on 03-11-2007 22:12

November is a very busy month for me, and it is likely the same for a large number of our members as well.  November brings with it the notorious acclaimed National Novel Writing Month (codenamed NaNoWriMo), and as recently stated on our forums, role-players are often writers too.  Many of our members here at Mutual Endeavors or taking part in this month long, thirty day phenomenon, including yours truly.  Though, we can't all be writing all the time.  At least not on our future blockbuster novels.

In my down time, my breaks in between noveling, I have been spending as much time as I can remember to spend working on the recently opened new Rhydin Wiki.  A link to this astounding site can also be found in our links section under the Resources category, because this site is a valuable resource!  We can only advertise it so many times before the news becomes old news, but we try our very best to direct anyone and everyone over to the wiki.

I whole-heartedly encourage each and every one of you to take part in this project.  Preferably by signing up on the forums, asking for editor access, and adding your own content on your own time.  However, I also know that many of you simply do not have a care for this sort of work.  But not to worry!  This is where my proposal comes into play.

I have contacted some of my other friends and comrades out there in RP land, and I have directed their attention to the Rhydin Wiki site.  So far the response is split down the middle, but by contacting these people I have placed an offer on the table that I am now placing before all of you.

If by chance you do not wish to sign up for editor status at the wiki home site on your own, but do want your RP information added to the database, then I have an alternative that may make us all very happy.  It will make me very happy, because I would personally like to see this database grow and become the number one resource for all information RP and Rhydin related.  It will hopefully make you very happy, because my proposal means that you will have to do very little of the work on your own.

How, you ask?  This proposal is very simple.  I, the Nefarious SM, am fully willing to add your information to the Rhydin Wiki database for you!  All this requires is for you to grant me your permission to add articles and content on your behalf.  This may also require you supplying me with necessary information so that I don't get anything wrong.

If you would like to take me up on this offer, please contact me in the usual manner.  You may send me a private message, reply to this news article, send me an email, or hit me up with an IM if you are capable of doing so.  My preferred method of communication and correspondance is, however, email.  My secondary preferred method is PM here on this site.

Please help me to help you keep the dream of free form cooperative role-playing alive and well.  Help me to help you make the Rhydin Wiki database, a valuable resource for all things Rhydin related, the very best it can be.  Either by accepting this proposal and allowing me to add your content for you, or by taking responsibility into your own hands and signing up to add the content yourself.

Remember everything that Mutual Endeavors stands for.  The best way to succeed at cooperative role-play is by communicating with your fellow players.  And the best way to communicate is to supply relative information as it is needed.  One way to store this information is by making use of the new Rhydin Wiki. It's there.  It's glorious.  Let's make use of it!

1. Wiki offer
Ehz; if you need someone else to add wiki content for folks, I'll throw my had in as well. That way, you're not the only one who has to format articles for folks who don't want to go sign up themselves.

The problem with keeping that written permission to post private (email/PM) is that people who don’t patronize ME could very easily say, "Why does SM get to add articles for Soandso, but I can’t add articles for Whatshisname? Why don’t the rules apply to SM?"

Worse, what happens when someone wants to dispute or discuss something in a personal article and the original writer is not around to have the discussion?

I think part of the difficulties Rob experienced were due to him doing stuff like this behind closed doors. Let's not repeat that.

If the articles you are looking to add for third parties are going to be what we term personal articles (character profiles and/or organizations), then we need more transparency.

People can register at the forum, post their information in the appropriate folder with a request that it be added to the wiki. That way, they can request updates to their article at the rhydinwiki forums and engage in discussions about the content.
