Ubique's Weekly

A Mutual Endeavors Publication

Issue #98 ~ 29 October 2007

The Blurb

"A discovery is said to be an accident meeting a prepared mind." -- Albert Szent-Gyorgyi, US (Hungarian-born) biochemist  (1893 - 1986)

Haha!  Yeeeah.  Hello and happy Monday to one and all.  Like that quote there?  So do I.  Amazing that I found it in a random list on my usual favorite site.  The very same random generation list that I browse through every week to toss in little words of wisdom like those above.  Kind of a sign this week, really.

So I was filtering through my inbox, reviewing the collection of old updates I have received since reviving Ubique's Weekly, and I noticed something.  I made a discovery!  I realized that it's been weeks now since I've sent out any reminder notices.  "Calling all updates!"  As I've sent out in the past.  Noticing this, I came to the conclusion that this is probably a very big factor in why nobody has sent me updates in quite some time.

Oh sure.  I've received a sporadic few from those who remember to remember.  But not quite as many updates as I'd prefer.  It would be nice, as I always say, if everybody who reads this newsletter remembered to send me some news every week before I compile each issue.  Then I realized that people might not know when I compile each issue.  Regardless of how often I may have slipped in little reminders.  I think it is the curse of the entire Internet population for us all to have bad memories.

Let me pose a question before I get on with the news I do have to share.  Do you think it would help to send out those update reminders every week prior to newsletter publication?  Do you, my devoted readers, often find yourself forgetting until it's too late?  I mean, honestly.  If I can't remember to send reminders for updates, how can I expect any of you to remember to send them?  Hit me with a reply if you'd like to let me know your thoughts on this matter.  Moving on.

This Just In

"Americans detest all lies except lies spoken in public or printed lies." -- Edgar Watson Howe, US journalist  (1853 - 1937)

Need I say anything further?  Not really.  With that quote left to settle and float about your thoughts, I'll simply move on with this week's...

Headlines

Down With the Ship! :  So it started off great.  Just like the historical voyage of the legendary Titanic.  Everything was going splendidly, until one fine day (or night), the ship ran itself into an iceberg.  Then everything went to hell.  Some could say this is what happened to the only recently revived Realm of RhyDin, player contributed-to wiki hosted by Dragon's Mark founder Panther.  Much discussion has gone into the need and desire of a wiki database for all things Rhydin, particularly on our very own Mutual Endeavors Fireboard forum.  There was so much interest expressed for this resource, that DM founder Panther announced one month ago that he was opening the doors to the Realm of RhyDin wiki!  This mutual endeavor took off!  Players from all over were storming the database adding anything and everything they could to it.

Then, one sad day, only near the end of last week, visitors to the site discovered they are now witness to this message:  "This site is currently ... indefinately... closed."  So what does that mean?  Well.  It means precisely what it says, I'm afraid.  Nobody really knows what Panther is planning to do with the site, if anything at all now.  Rumors of paranoid schizophrenia abound, but all I can really tell any of you is that it doesn't look as if the wiki will be reopening its doors any time soon.  Don't get your hopes up.  Instead, move along to see what else we have in store for you!

Get the Scoop! :  Don't forget the RDI Playables!  As seen on the front page of the Red Dragon Inn community page hosted by Dragon's Mark.  This week, the Nefarious SM is just too darn lazy to copy and paste and paraphrase the plethora of news headlines that can be seen on that site.  So we're just going to redirect you to them and let you read them for yourselves!

The New Rhydin Wiki! The above-mentioned indefinite informational blackout did not last long, my good friends in RP-land.  Shortly after the discovery of the Realm of RhyDin wiki being shut down until further notice, without any notice, Mutual Endeavors member AlysiaSkye posed the question on our forum (under the same thread) as to whether or not anyone was still interested in the idea of a player developed database for all things Rhydin.  The response has been a selective but also very emphatic yes.

Since this time, only a few short days ago, a new wiki database has been born on the world wide web!  Readers are encouraged to visit the new and improved, recently established, Rhydin Wiki, as well as to register and help build this database into the very best it can possibly ever be.  This wiki was built with the solemn promise that it will never, under any circumstances, be randomly taken down from its server and that no bias is held as to who has the right or privilege to add content to any article.  It was also created with a standard Creative Commons license agreement to help ease any worries contributors might have regarding the intellectual ownership rights of the information they may share.

In Other News...

"People with courage and character always seem sinister to the rest." -- Hermann Hesse, Swiss (German-born) author  (1877 - 1962)

This week I have nothing really to say about the individual character updates, so I'm going to forgo rambling and just move on with the information I have to share with our readers.

Caliban Fortannis (Life ensnared)The Regional Seeker General of the Methuen originated Seekers Veritas has recently been seen this past week in the Rambling Rose Tavern.  By the looks of things, his new station has been keeping him very busy and frazzled.  Mr. Fortannis had the strange (mis)fortune of meeting local verbal antagonist Renley Killian, which also left him frazzled according to rumor.

Ehzoterik VonArcanum Tempestas (Ehzoterik):  Someone really needs to put a lock on this girl's cage.  Ehz has been out and about more frequently than is rightfully healthy for the population at large.  Recent visitations include dropping on the RRT this past week, in which she made it a point to make a huge mess of things just to give Shadi something to clean up, much to Seamus's unusual sadistic pleasure.  Later in the week, she also dropped by the Red Dragon Inn for a brief period of time, just so she could win a pointing match against the notoriously even more absent legendary Corlanthis, whom she hasn't seen as often as she might like.  How sad.

Faye: She Who Tends the Dead (Faye Random)While nobody has seen much of the Linewalker these days, it is rumored that she has had some recent dealings with other forces.  Aside from acting as counsel for the chaos spawn known as Havoc, she has also recently had visitations from an unidentified gentleman who is going by the name of Faust.  Nobody is certain what this means.

Havoc (Chaos Reclaimed):  Sin discovered the chaos spawn in the forest this past week, tacked to a tree that seemed very intent on eating him.  The sinner was kind enough to cut Havoc down and take him home for some much needed tender loving care.  Or something like that.

Irina Braeden (Irina Braeden):  The artist still remains mostly missing in action.  Nobody has seen her.  Nobody knows what she's doing.  Nobody even knows if she's alive!  Well.  Maybe someone should check up on her, don't you think?

Renley Killian (A Common Cur)His visits to the Red Dragon Inn are becoming more frequent.  This past Saturday marks his third visit, in which he had the pleasure of making another potential acquaintance, a poetic young woman by the name of Haydee.  Renley has gone on record saying that the locals at the RDI are much more accommodating and friendly than those he has encountered at the Rambling Rose Tavern.  A testimony he made to tavern owner Seamus Wylie personally, when he decided to drop in for a visit earlier this past week.  A visit that did not go without further discovery.  It seems as if the blind psion may have found a new interesting individual to stalk and harass.  Or, that is to say, get to know a little better.

Salvador Delahada (Karmic Venganza):  Note to self: in the future do a thorough investigation of the House to make certain no possible weapons are lying about to be used against you.  Salvador had one hell of a week.  Setting free their guest the cannibal was only the tip of the iceberg.  Listening to Seamus try to be big and brave and threatening was just a boring waste of time.  It certainly did nothing to change his mind on the matter of having lost respect for the man.  No new respect has been earned whatsoever.

Seamus Wylie (Seamus Wylie)Seamus stood up for himself!  He grew a pair of balls for the whole two minutes necessary to tell Sal off for grabbing him the way he did.  He also made it a point to threaten banning him from the bar if such an incident ever happened ever again.  Whether or not his little speech did any good is still being questioned.

Shadi (Shadibadoo): Poor, poor Shadi.  Left to clean up a mess that Ehz made for him, consisting of cork coasters being plastered to the walls and every other nook and cranny in the tavern with a sticky food substance known as compote.  Likely he cleaned up the mess rather well.

Sinjin Fai (Sinjin Fai)Life just keeps getting better and better!  Okay, so that's a lie.  The sinner has had his hands full of injured chaos spawn and wounded fae-child, not to mention the volatile tempers and mercurial moods that come from such things.  We're starting to think that Sin needs a much deserved vacation.

Suliss'urn (Natha Oreb): Someone has a message for her!  The last rumor that we heard had something to do with a stranger, an elf soldier, paying a visit to the Rambling Rose Tavern, on a mission to deliver a message to the drow.  Sal and Sin were both very intent on taking the message to her for the elf, but he had strict instructions to deliver it himself.  Nobody knows what happened since then, but some can only hope Suliss ate the poor messenger... Uh.  Sure.

Classifieds

Dragon's Mark The new home for for Free Form Role-Playing (FFRP) on the web, or so their mission statement about themselves proclaims.  Here you can find all things Red Dragon Inn and many things Rhy'din related.  The people at DM strive to present themselves as the number one resource site for the greater whole of the FFRP community, but they aren't the only ones.  Still, this is a valuable website to know about.  Make use of it as you see fit.

Greater Realms :  A new board for Rhy'Din players, based more outside of the city setting. Called GreaterRealms, it's open to anyone who plays in Rhy'Din, regardless of whether they play on AOL or on the RDI site, or even RoH, with an emphasis on stories that take place across the whole realm. Meant as a companion board for both Mutual Endeavors and RDI, it lacks a lot of the neat features you'd find elsewhere, but hopefully will soon make up for that with content.

Mutual Endeavors LJ Community Before the message board forum was ever considered, another attempt at keeping Mutual Endeavors alive and active was put into motion with the creation of the LiveJournal Community.  If you have a LiveJournal of your own, you are thoroughly encouraged to join our community at any time.  Stay up-to-date and in the loop with our random ramblings and discussions.  Some are held there and others are held on our forum.  Everyone is welcome. Don't be shy!

Rambling Rose Tavern :  The Rambling Rose Tavern is a bar and grill establishment in town, owned and operated by Seamus Wylie and Katie Rose Wylie.  Stop in and enjoy a drink or a home-style meal, but before you do check out the rules and room description by following this link: http://www.ramblingrosetavern.net.  There are plenty of fun times to be had at the Rambling Rose Tavern!  Don't hesitate to join in on them whenever possible.

*          *          *

Rhydin Wiki :  As linked to in our ME resources category, the Rhydin Wiki is an internet wiki dedicated to all things Rhydin (however it's spelled) far and wide.  Hosted by the founder of Rhilshen, anyone is welcome to contribute to the repository.  Perhaps in time the wiki will turn itself into a veritable Encyclopedia Rhydinica!

Storyboard ArchiveThe freeform role-playing group more commonly known as Mutual Endeavors had once added its storylines and characters to a message board forum for player convenience.  It was decided that it would be beneficial to allow players a less time-restricted venue in which to present their characters' stories and participate interactively.  Since that time, things have changed and this old forum is now a read-only resource, but still worth checking if you're up for some good reading.

Subscribe Now! : Ubique's Weekly is a publication provided by the not-for-profit organization known as Mutual Endeavors.  As a free source of literary entertainment, you as the reader have the liberty to send out copies of our publication to whomever you think might enjoy the information shared.  To save yourselves the hassle of constantly forwarding what you might find amusing, feel free at any time to inform your friends and coconspirators to contact the Editor to request their very own future copies of Ubique's Weekly at no cost to them whatsoever.  It's as simple as clicking this link here above, or by visiting our official website.

Ubique's Archive :  For several years now, the Ink Wire Associates and I have been trying to archive every old issue of Ubique's Weekly onto the internet.  It has been a slow-going process, and finally every past issue has been coded and archived to the new site.  Including this one!  Do enjoy.

Final Thoughts
"Honesty is the best image." -- Tom Wilson, Ziggy (comic)

There are some who argue that having an open forum for ranting and "throwing an unholy temper tantrum" gives Mutual Endeavors a bad image.  If such is true, then I find myself constantly wondering why it is new members keep joining our site every single day.  I heard it once said somewhere that even bad publicity is good publicity.  This is something I can truly believe, for very good reasons.

For the past week now, it has come to my attention that some members of the Dragon's Mark community have spent a great deal of time sitting in the RDI Lobby doing little more than talking about, and sometimes complaining about, some of the posts that have been made on our very own Bitch Fest board.  The evidence stands that this sort of conjecture has lead to a great deal of curiosity, and many other members have crossed over to have a look for themselves.

"Judge not, lest ye be judged."  Though I myself am not a Christian, I do at the very least believe in the wisdom presented in religious text.  I am glad that individuals are coming over to explore and examine the evidence placed before them, and drawing their own conclusions based on what they see.  I also firmly believe that yes indeed, honesty is the best image.  Be honest with your thoughts and with your feelings.  Be honest in your opinions.  Be honest in all your mutual endeavors, and as always I will continue to be...

Keeping you informed,
--
