Fireboard Stable: Kinda PDF Print E-mail
Written by SM, on 15-09-2007 07:55

As announced on the forum by our technical administrator Mike here, our forums have been upgraded to the newest stable version of the Fireboard software.  This, of course, comes with a few complications and missing key ingredients that I think our members here should all be made aware of.  Still quite a handful of kinks to work out, and there probably will be for quite some time.  Our site is only a couple months old, after all...

Mike and Mel, who are both much more well versed in CSS overrides than I am, are both working on the coding to try to better suit our needs.  The center option is currently unavailable, but I'm hoping that gets brought back.  I, for one, very much enjoy centering text when and where I can, and I'm pretty sure some of our other members do too.

There are still a lot of issues with the quote system.  While things may look nice and tidy during a preview, for some reason it doesn't translate well over into the published post.  Please be wary of this when you are trying to quote someone else's text in your own replies.  The best option available that I can see at the moment is to italicize or change the color of the quote text.  Sometimes it helps to add in a "Username said:" thing as well.  I'm hoping that we can get the quote tags fixed up so that they're better presented, but for now make due where you can.

As was mentioned going into this project, a lot of the old features we're used to from the proboard just don't exist now on our new fully integrated fireboard.  I cannot apologize enough for this inconvenience.  The proboard was much prettier, and I kind of wish we could make our new boards look exactly like that.  But, as Jayne Cobb once said, "Yeah, and if wishes were horses, we'd all be eatin' steak."

We're doing the best we can with the features we have currently at our disposal.  I'm very pleased with the new calendar, and my thanks goes out to the member who recommended it.  Seems to be working nicely and I hope members can make continued good use of it in the future.

Rome wasn't built in a day, as the old saying goes.  I really hope we don't turn out like Rome, though.  But all great nations are destined to fall.  I don't consider us a great nation, but we do still have a lot of building to do.

Not yet they don't, no.

Luckily, the wonderful thing about this kind of stuff, is that some one, somewhere, will made add ons and doo dads and better versions of it until, eventually, it'll be as feature rich and better than proboards.

Patience!
