IWA: Now Hiring! PDF Print E-mail
Written by SM, on 05-09-2007 05:59

Our numbers here at Mutual Endeavors just keep growing and growing!  I owe a great deal of thanks not only to the man who made this site possible, but also to the players out there in RP land who stumbled upon it and passed the word along to all their friends and family.  Not to mention to the person who directed me to Bellwebs in the first place (Thank you, Mel!).  But since our numbers keep on growing and growing, I realize, like the newsletter, that this is starting to turn into way too much work for one mere mortal to handle on her own.  Therefore, I'm looking for some help.

My goal for this month is to hire on a few more Ink Wire Associates.  Who are the IWA?  Check out the brief definition in our FAQ section to get a general idea.  For an even more detailed understanding, it's best to browse back through the older issues of Ubique's Weekly.  Particularly the Double Edition, Issue #73, the blurb from Issue #70 , and the Top Story! from Issue #61 when I first instated the Ink Wire Associates to help me out.

Originally, long before the conception of a website, the IWA were only meant to help me with the compilation of the newsletter.  With so much information poring in at me, it took too long for me to be able to put everything together in a single day.  This isn't a job.  I'm not getting paid for it.  Nor were any of them, and nor will any future IWA member.  As I stated in my last news, the only payment an Ink Wire Associate receives is the gratification of helping keep the dream of freeform cooperative role-playing alive and well through the consistant circulation of news and information.  I should quote myself on that one.  Best way I've written it so far.

In any case, as you can plainly see, I'm looking to hire on some fresh blood.  I'm looking for a small handful of able-minded individuals who are willing to take that next step further on the front lines.  I'm looking for go-getters who aren't afraid to speak their mind and guide the knowledge-seekers of role-play land farther than most are willing to travel.  I'm looking for people with the know-how or the want-to-learn-the-know-how to work together as a team and keep this site running smoothly for as long as we can afford to keep it.  I'm looking for the few.  I'm looking for the proud.  I'm looking for the marines!  No, but seriously.

What I'm looking for are people with a certain hardcore, dead determination to make Mutual Endeavors the very best it can be.  Not just people who want to help out with the newsletter anymore.  That'll be a large part of your job, if you're interested, but only a small part of the bigger picture.  I'm looking for people with a very specific set of credentials, and if you're asking yourself what those credentials are then take a look at the following questions.  If you can answer yes to a large majority of them, then perhaps a position amongst the Ink Wire Associates is just the sort of position for you!:

  • Do you firmly believe in the tennants of freeform cooperative role-playing as set down by our predecessors?
  • Do you firmly believe that good communication is the absolute key to making FFRP a successful endeavor?
  • Do you firmly believe that information should be shared freely and willingly with the world at large, without hesitation?
  • Do you have at least one free hour of every single day available in which you can spend online and in the service of Mutual Endeavors?
  • Do you now, or are you willing to, have a stand alone personal player profile on our site?
  • Are you unafraid to reveal yourself to the role-playing community as a player with a name instead of just a character with a face?
  • Do you know now, or are you willing to learn, how to operate the Joomla! system?

If you answered yes to at least half of the above questions, then you're well on your way to qualifying for a position amongst the Ink Wire Associates.  Prime candidates for any of the positions should also have some passing knowledge of the following items, though they are not in any way certain absolute requirements:

  • Basic HTML website design.
  • A decent sense of humor.
  • An understanding of human nature.
  • Capable of laughing at your own expense.
  • An ability to write and write well.
  • Any past journalism experience.
  • A good customer service personality.

These are just a few of many possible examples I was able to come up with on the fly.  So far, both Kelsey and Mel, my other IWA helpers, fit these requirements perfectly.  I'd very much like to give them both titles.  K has one for the newsletter, but M has done so much for the site at large that I really don't want to sucker into helping us write UW too.  She does enough work on her own with me having to tell her! Hahaha!

So, if you think the IWA life is the life for you during your online hours.  If you'd at least maybe want to give it a shot and help us moderate Mutual Endeavors as well as compile Ubique's Weekly, hit us with a resume.  I've decided not to bother with an application, since my last one turned out to be such a total flop.  Write me an email, and send it to This e-mail address is being protected from spam bots, you need JavaScript enabled to view it where it can be considered for review.  Myself and the other current IWA members will read your personal glorifying letters and take it into consideration as to whether or not we should hire you on.  Your first test is to come up with a snappy subject line that won't get deleted straight away. ;)

Now taking applications!  Hope to hear from a lot of you soon.  Please don't disappoint me.  Help me to help you keep the dream alive by going that extra mile.  Become an Ink Wire Associate!

1. Your Forum and F.A.Q.'s Biznitch.
The reason why I keep hedging and turning you down for the position is because I know I have times when I burn out on things. (::Points at role playing.::) And I end up needing to take an undetermined amount of time off.

I don't want to do that with UW, and I have a strong feeling that will happen.

With the forums here and writing of the F.A.Q's and learning the in's and outs of Joomla, I feel like I've got far more freedom than I would doing UW. Takes a person with much more patience and good humor than I, to do that sort of thing. Sos, that's why I'd like to remain ur forumz n' F.A.Q's biznitch.

And the reason I haven't taken it up is about the same. I've got so many projects going right now IRL and IC that I doubt I'd do a good job on this. However, if things calm down, I'll certainly give it a try -- in the meantime, I'll contribute where and how I can.
