Countdown to Lockdown PDF Print E-mail

All those happy, shiny NEW icons are fading away, and so I thought I should probably write a little something to let everyone know that I'm still alive and so is Mutual Endeavors.  August is fading away and September is closing in on us.  That means it's only a matter of time.  In a little less than 48 hours, I'll be locking down the old proboard near permanently...

I say near permanently, because none of us can say for sure what the future holds.  My greatest hope and dream is that our new site here will stand through the ages and last forever.  But that's probably silly of me, considering all things on the internet, like all things computer-related, end up out-dated an no longer used.  I don't want to see that dark day come for our site, but it's always a possibility.  This is something I can accept so easily, because I know that no matter how much our visual presentation of ourselves may change over the years, Mutual Endeavors, the ideal and everything else it stands for, will endure through the ages.  Just so long as we all keep striving to keep the dream alive.

It's like that movie V for Vendetta.  Society may change.  Culture may change.  People may change and die over time.  But an idea is immortal.  An idea will live through the ages.  An idea can never die.  And for those of you who never saw the movie, those of you who go to church unlike myself, I'm pretty sure that Jesus pretty much said the very same thing.  Except, he used a lot more words.

So! Remember!  Come the end of the week, Saturday, the old proboard forum is getting the final polish and lock down.  Everything that could be moved should be moved over by now.  Shame on you lazy folk!  You know who you are!  You'll still have the opportunity to do that in your own dear sweet time, though.  The posts will still be there.  Nobody will be able to post anything new or reply to anything old, however.  I'll be tossing up one last bulletin on the old board to redirect people to this site here, though everybody should have noticed the redirect by now. I may even send out one last mass mailer to all the members as a last and final heads up, you're too late.  So keep an eye on your inboxes for anything like that.  Depends on how lazy I am.

Chances are likely that this will stand as the last front page news article for the month of August.  That's not a certain thing, but just a guess based on how well I know myself.  And how I know I'm the only one who ever writes front page news articles, despite the fact that I've encouraged other IWA members to go ahead and do so themselves if they wanted.

To anyone new, if I haven't welcomed you to Mutual Endeavors, allow me to do so now. Welcome to Mutual Endeavors!  I think I've hit up everybody's profile books at least once.

All that said, I think I've rambled plenty for now.  Until next time, as one of my newest favorite characters is prone to saying (yes, hi, this is a tribute to Harold) -- Godspeed!
