Ubique's Weekly
A Mutual Endeavors Publication
Issue #90 ~ 11 August 2007
The Blurb
Common sense is the knack of seeing things as they are, and doing things as they ought to be done. -- C. E. Stowe
This week's newsletter is being sent out a little later in the day than I'd like. Tried to sit down and write it last night, but I discovered becoming far too tired to concentrate on any written work. It's been a difficult week for getting anything done. This is mostly to do with the fact that my husband is on vacation. By now, that rumor should have spread around. Especially if you people actually take the time to check the official Mutual Endeavors website and read the news there as it pops up.
What's that? Why yes. Yes. I do sometimes post up other news elsewhere. Not everything is reserved to be typed and printed in every issue of Ubique's Weekly. Who knows. Maybe in a few weeks the newsletter will be phased out completely. Yeah right. Like that'll ever happen.
As it stands, I remembered to send out the reminder email for updates earlier than usual. So I think I can afford writing up this issue and sending it out later than usual. You're all so kind for being patient (though I doubt you really care). Thanks to my premature reminder email, I actually received a nice handful of updates from people. This probably has a lot to do with the fact that I emphasized my lack of being online this week. You know. It might just be best for people to assume I'm never online, because receiving personally written news updates helps tremendously.
In Other News... See here? This is what happens when other people send me their own character news. Additions look so much more shinier and personalized. Instead of the same old song and dance style that I write in myself. What does this mean? This means: don't be slackers! Help me out!
Allen Baird (A Flaming Flamer): Set Mike on fire, flipped stuff, ran off into an alley, went all telekinetic fury on it, wrecked the walls, and nearly killed himself and Mike. Forutnately, Sin was there to play interference.
Doctor Maranya Tatiana Valkonan (Maranya Valkonan): The good and quite reclusive Doctor continues to spend time volunteering her medical services at Riverview Free Clinic, along with tending to her usual patients, which includes one of the tenders at the Silver Moon Inn. Some of Maranya's patients might best be described as having blessed events in the fairly distant future. When not working, she dotes on her Siamese cat, Zorro, at her ranch.
Ehzoterik VonArcanum Tempestas (Ehzoterik): At the end of the week, Ehz popped into the Rambling Rose Tavern. Just to inform Sin that he was too sexy for his shirt. And quite possibly to scare the bejeezus out of one Allen Baird. What? He's funny when he's flamey!
Faladar (Afreet Master): A chortling little messenger imp returned to Faladar this week, reminding him of his planned rendezvous with Mister Wylie and his brother. When *was* that supposed to occur? He'd been attending to his duties as "prince of war" for his fledgeling state, but his thoughts occassionaly turn back to that little tavern of past holidays. His would-have-been squire currently resides there, after all.
Irina Braeden (Irina Braeden): Another crazy week for the artist! Along with the club party this week, she's been getting a few presents for her baby to be. She doesn't know "Bud's" gender yet, though she's taking suggestions for girls' names and has decided on Ryan Nicholas if it turns out to be a boy. Lots of good things are happening for Irina, which makes her wonder when the proverbial shoe is going to drop on her head. Though her Best Male Friend, Mike (MichelangeIo H) did get burned late Thursday night at the Rose, so maybe that's the beginning of Bad Things To Come?
Jacob Arche (Jacob Arche): A new face, not unsurprising, showed up literally fresh from the city in Rhy'Din two and a half weeks ago. Jacob, a weary veterinarian from Denver, has a lot to adjust to. He's been seen at the Rambling Rose and the Medieval Tavern when his work permits. So far, he's been content to watch the oddities from the side lines.
Joker (SMI Joker, Richard D Harker): The flirtatious sometime bartender for the Silver Moon Inn is currently working on setting up his own architecture firm, and may soon be hanging up his barjockeying apron for good. This might be a risky move on his part, as not only does Joker have a wife and young daughter to support, but rumor has it the Harker family tree may have more than one new addition to it, come Christmas time. Not to mention Joker nearly got shishkabobed at the Rambling Rose recently by a drow with an attitude problem. Poor guy just needs to relax. Hopefully his anger management counseling, along with his usual medical treatments from the Valkyrie (Maranya Valkonan), helps him with this.
Mesteno (Bronze Mesteno): Mesteno started the week off with a small-scale war at the Medieval Tavern, during which he and a handful of other brave (stupid) souls took on an army of zombies. Somehow, he ended up getting dropped in the trough thanks to a cowboy as their team finally emerged victorious. A good-natured brawl with the same cowboy ensued the following day, and the day after that he became embroiled in a feud about pixies with a certain angel. He finished off the week with a breaking and entering session in a classy hotel which resulted in some alarming news. It's safe to say, there's trouble brewing in Sadist land!
Rachael Wynter (Rachael Wynter): The scarred woman in black has not been seen in public for some time. Rumor has it Rachael sports a trigold band with a sapphire and diamond on her left ring finger from a handsome red haired man. Other rumors have the former Head of Security at the Lady Luck Casino meeting with a mysterious dark haired gentleman on a personal matter.
Shadi (Shadibadoo): As far as Shadi is concerned, little goes on outside unless it is intimately wedded to his experience. A dragon could be leveling half the city and not dent the shell of what had been a lukewarm, stagnant sort of contentment. Only dissonance and betrayed secrets could do that, as they had this week in rather innocuous conversation. Just how long had he been outed? And shall he continue his spotty denials? In the mystique of outage, what he feels is a fad interest in alternative lifestyles may pass. Perhaps he's not willing to label himself just yet.
Obituaries Once again we have for you a selection of random NPC character deaths. As I've stated before, I would REALLY like to put played character deaths in this section. But some of them happened so long ago. UW was out of print for two long years. Still. Wouldn't it be nice to spread the word around? I'm certain not everybody knows what happened to those long lost characters.
Harn Adana, 51. Harn was a spirited and well-respected cartographer. He devoted his life to bridging the gap between worlds through a system of easily accessible cross-dimensional maps still available today. Worlds who had felt stranded in a web of their own sameness, stagnant in a single genetic pool, were for the first time invited to enjoy the perils of our multiverse. Harn personally ventured out to create the most accurate maps possible, and it was on one such expedition that he was eaten alive by an ocean bear.
Jonas Hallstet, 203. Having been a private figure for most of his adult life, few suspected he would propel himself into local popularity with a series of highly-rated murder mysteries. Mr. Hallstet's contribution to the mystery genre was a blending of various worlds' mythologies into the equally variant universe of forensic methodology. Having been an extensive traveler himself, often in the guise of a local, Jonas drew the unique circumstances of each book from the actual limitations of multiversal detective work. Owing to the somewhat occult nature of his later books, his peaceful passing has led some of his fan clubs into espousing messianic beliefs of his return.
Murray Ampherdam, 73. "Ole Twenkle-time", as he was known, passed away quietly this week in the loving embrace of his family. He captured the hearts and imaginations of movie-goers for 20 years with his trademark dance and memorable characters. Murray's Amraxin audience delighted at his antics until he was overshadowed by Djole Benx, a rising star who had been his protoge. It wasn't long before Ampherdam was accusing Benx of stealing his ideas and passing Murray's scripts off as his own, dragging both performers into years of ugly litigation. Nevertheless, a PR campaign managed by his children pulled the embattled actor back into Amrax's good graces, to Djole Benx's chagrin. Wherever you are, Murray, "Don' ya stop twenklin!"
Sveweto Zammn, 32. A rising star in interuniversal defense contracting, commander Sveweto represented a new breed of mercenary. Early on in her career she helped revolutionize the combat systems of several resource-rich but previously neglected worlds, introducing conflict to perpetuate the military influence of her organization as if it were in the locals' interests. She is thought to have done more for Commercially-beneficial violence than any other, for which she had recieved many accolaides. Her shining career ended too soon, to the sharp whine of an assassin's bullet.
Classifieds Mutual Endeavors Forum : The freeform role-playing group more commonly known as Mutual Endeavors has added its storylines and characters to a message board forum for player convenience. It was decided that it would be beneficial to allow players a less time-restricted venue in which to present their characters' stories and participate interactively. Not everyone can be online at the same times all the time. Therefore we opened up this forum to the masses. If you're interested, registration is completely free and unmoderated. Check it out! * * * Mutual Endeavors LJ Community : Before the message board forum was ever considered, another attempt at keeping Mutual Endeavors alive and active was put into motion with the creation of the LiveJournal Community. If you have a LiveJournal of your own, you are thoroughly encouraged to join our community at any time. Stay up-to-date and in the loop with our random ramblings and discussions. Some are held there and others are held on our forum. Everyone is welcome. Don't be shy! * * * Navarra Farms : is temporarily opening opportunities for stud services with four of their finest stallions. It's as simple as clicking this link here above. * * * Ubique's Archive : For several years now, the Ink Wire Associates and I have been trying to archive every old issue of Ubique's Weekly onto the internet. It has been a slow-going process, and finally every past issue has been coded and archived to the new site. Do enjoy.
Final Thoughts Today was just one of those days. I didn't feel like taking the time to look for news that matched up anywhere. Didn't feel like writing a great big article on the state of the site. All that news can be found on the website right now anyway. Besides, I think I summarized everything nicely in the blurb by saying:
Husband on vacation. SM not likely to be online much for the next week and a half. Hasn't been online since husband began vacation. Why are you all surprised?
In any case, I do hope that play continues on enjoyably for the rest of you. Remember to send me your updates by midnight Friday for the next issue. Eventually I'm going to change some things around here, so if you haven't been to the site go there and check it out. After all this forum business gets taken care off, I plan on changing the newsletter. With this as with all other things, I'll continue to be...
