Ubique's Weekly

A Mutual Endeavors Publication

Issue #88 ~ 28 July 2007

The Blurb

Hi-dee-ho, friends and neighbors! Can't say I'm too excited about taking up the driver's seat of editing this week's issue of Ubique's Weekly, but I won't let it stop me from getting the news sent out. Just been one of those weeks where I don't feel much like doing anything productive at all.

Trying something new this week, as you can probably obviously see. Due to an unforseen incompatibility issue between the new ME website's formatting abilities and the usual regularity of AOL, I've decided to try formatting this week's issue, and possibly any future ones, using standard Arial. The ME site seems to like Arial better than my favored Times New Roman. Alas.

Before moving on, let me take a moment here to publically thank assistant chief editor K for compiling last week's issue. I must confess I was at first a little nervous about asking her to do the job for me, but she proved herself to be the best person to fill her position. Thank you for doing a beautiful job, K, and not messing anything up. Especially the BCC anonymity of the mailing list! That's where we had the most trouble in the past.

Well, okay. I think I'm probably boring you. I can say that I didn't receive a lot of updates this week. In fact, I only got one e-mail. Thank you for sending me your news without me having to ask. You know who you are! That said: on with the news!

Top Story!

Last week we brought you news concerning the continued evolution of Mutual Endeavors on the web. It's very likely that we'll continue to bring you news on Me as it grows and develops on the internet. We've been adding in a lot of cool new features to the site, most of which has been covered in detail through the news items on the front page. You've been informed of the site itself, but as a reminder it's:

MUTUALENDEAVORS.ORG

The latest news I want to cover today concerns something I've wanted to do for a very long time. I give you this excerpt from the front page of the site:

UW Archive Complete: Been a looong time coming! A few short minutes ago, I, the Nefarious SM, completely and successfully uploaded all past issues of the notorious Mutual Endeavors newsletter known as Ubique's Weekly to the website. It took about a week and a half's worth of work, and I'm not 100% certain that I can say it's perfect, but it's there! It's finally there! To date: there are a grand total of 87 issues of Ubique's Weekly in circulation. From our humble beginnings with the very first newsletter on August 17, 2003 to today. I'm proud to say that we've been around that long! Of course, most of you well know about the falling out that occurred two years ago when I just plain gave up on writing the newsletter all together. We have quite a history...

You can read the full story on the official site. I'm not going to clutter up this week's newsletter with further instances of me repeating myself in precise detail. Do a little work, people! It's not that difficult, I assure you. Painless, actually, because now everything is collected on a one-stop-shop site for all your Mutual Endeavors needs.

Storyline Spotlight

We still haven't collected enough information from the player populace to be able to come up with a decent storyline spotlight. This is not surprising, to be honest. Ubique's Weekly has only recently revived itself after two long years of useless slumber. I'm sure we'll get something spotlight-worthy eventually. Just be patient.

This Just In

Based on the extremely small amount of email updates I received this week, I don't think I'm going to be very good at spotting an accumulated headline as K was last week. Besides, I'm writing this at 3:30 in the morning just to get it done before it goes forgotten again.

In Other News...

Individual character updates are usually very easy to come by. The only problem is the fact that this week I'm once again going by memory. That isn't usually a concern, considering I have a complete list template at my disposal. Whenever I write these updates, I browse down the list to see what I can fill in. But my memory isn't always 100% reliable, as most of you well know. Still, let's see what I can come up with in addition to the two other updates that I actually received in my email.

Allen Baird (A Flaming Flamer):  Rumor has it he went to Italy with his husband.

Donatello Harada
(
DonatelIo Harada):  The dean of Northedge was seen at the Rambling Rose Tavern earlier this week. Witnesses and family members suspect he simply needed a breath of fresh air from his family, particularly his wife according to his daughter who was bartending at the time.

Faladar (Afreet Master):  Faladar's 'nation' has held its first elections, despite the Elven general's strong aversion towards democracy.  Selsabil was initially founded as an enclave for idealistic vigilantes and avengers, but over the past two centuries it had imported so many refugees and orphans that it's grown into a good-sized city-state.  It is a land of injured idealists and passionate activists, cynical beaurocrats and dauntless martyrs.  It requires extensive micromanaging and psychiatric expertise.  Most of all, it requires a realistic mechanism through which to perpetuate good leadership.  Thus, whereas Faladar maintains the title "Grand Wazir" and "Amiral Harb", the Padasha Attabeg of Selsabil is henceforth elected by Parliament.  No more boring meetings for Faladar!

Havoc (Chaos Reclaimed):  It's all Sal's fault! This is true, actually. Salvador Delahada is fully responsible for cutting a hole into the spawn's wing and making him bleed all over the place. The biggest problem being that Havoc didn't know his blood would start creating a swarm of asphalt insects. That had been one hell of a night, and now the spawn would very much like to do nothing more than sleep. Forever.

Irina Braeden (Irina Braeden):  Rumor has it that she's pregnant! Can you believe it? Neither can half the people she's confessed this knowledge to. Irina's been on the receiving end of both insults and well-wishes this past week because of this news.

Matakhat Cain (Matakhat Cain):  Cat was tending bar this past week, as she is every week in the middle of the week. She got an opportunity to harass her father about getting a new car. Not that she was serious about it. Or was she...?

Mike Harada (MichelangeIo H):  Rumor has it he's in Italy for a photoshop.

Penrith Towley (Aversion Toward):  After a rather confusing visit to the Rose, where he talked to Stormraven, it turns out that he had made a huge mistake in thinking she wasn't interested. Now, under the guidance of his bondmate R'cha, he's set to trying to make ammends and spend more time going on dates with the girl. The only problem to this? He found out that she's also dating Morgan!

Salvador Delahada (Karmic Venganza):  It's reported that he was seen recently at the Rambling Rose Tavern, arguing with Havoc and Sin. He's starting to get really irritated with their combined lack of confidence in Val's capabilities. But after accidentally cutting up one of Havoc's wings, there wasn't much chance to discuss the issue further. Besides, he wasn't really willing to.

Shadi (Shadibadoo): One week had just started melting into another when the hippie teen found himself the prey of a most dreaded beast.  Her name is Jessica-Oanna Jillson, and nothing Shadi says or does can dissuade her from grossly ambushing him with acts of violent affection.  Zanj, the Janissary-in-training Shadi had been hanging out with recently, is almost of no help at all.  Must Shadi resort to his trump card; that dreaded phrase which he dare not speak in the midst of a deaf night?

Sinjin Fai (Sinjin Fai)Everything was going splendidly, until he got in argument with Salvador and Havoc concerning the safety of their other close-guarded family member, one Valentine Shyre. Then some crap happened involving bugs made of asphalt. It was fun, until it wasn't.

Stormraven k'Leshya (StormravenSpirit):  That two-timing queen of flirts! Is it true that Stormy is dating both Penrith Towley and Morgan Knight at the same time? According to the rumormill, that does indeed seem to be the case. According to Stormy: What's wrong with that? Really! Is there anything wrong with that?

Valentine Shyre (XValentineShyreX):  The news is that she's getting badgered by the rest of her family about their tremendous worry that she isn't capable of taking care of herself. Sal disagrees with both Havoc and Sin on this matter, and silently backs the girl's own opinion up that she shouldn't need to prove herself. Also: she made Havoc a get-well-soon card, because he got all beat up recently by his own explosive chaotic energies. Her turn to worry about the boys! Hah!

Mutual Endeavors ForumThe freeform role-playing group more commonly known as Mutual Endeavors has moved its storylines and characters to a message board forum for player convenience.  It was decided that it would be beneficial to allow players a less time-restricted venue in which to present their characters' stories and participate interactively.  Not everyone can be online at the same times all the time.  Therefore we opened up this forum to the masses.  If you're interested, registration is completely free and unmoderated.  Check it out!

Final Thoughts

That should about cover everything this week. No new announcements to make, though I blame this on me being lazy. I'm sure I have a calendar set up somewhere from way back when. Again, my tremendously awful memory is to blame. I mean: I remembered to tell my good buddy Corlanthis happy birthday in IMs a couple weeks back, but I forgot to leave him a well-wishing announcement on my LJ. How dare I!

I removed the UW archive from the classifieds section, because of recent news and updates to the new site. Speaking of that, be sure to check out mutualendeavors.org as soon as possible. Check it every day! Like I do. I've tried my best to keep it continuously active with frequent news updates. But I don't want to bog everything down with useless clutter.

Stay tuned for future editions and updates: both in your inbox and on the site. We're currently working on moving the old forum over to a new one. In the weeks to come we're hoping to have everything fully integrated to actually be that one-stop-shop hub that I mentioned above. In any case, I should probably stop rambling. But as always and ever, I'll continue to be...

Keeping you informed,
