Ubique's Weekly
A Mutual Endeavors Publication
Issue #85 ~ 23 June 2007
The Blurb Since I started so late on this, I'm not going to blabber on too much. Just want to say that you'll notice I omitted a couple of sections. Mainly because of lack of applicable content. I just didn't feel like BSing my way through the newsletter this weekend. Too lazy. For anything I missed, check the message boards and the LJ community. You'll find links to those places in the classifieds section, where they always are.
Top Story! Amazingly enough, it seems that some people actually do read the newsletter in full. Someone actually answered my call to submit articles from last week, and I received one! With a little alterations and editing magic, I give to you this week's Top Story! submitted by one of our loyal readers:
In reading the headlines for AOL's Strange but True News, I was lead to an article titled: Come to Lewisville! Get hitched for a buck!
Article contents:
In Lewisville, TX, on June 30, 2007, the "99 Cents Only" store will be hosting a licensed minister to perform marriage ceremonies in the store. I tried to speak to a manager about the event, but she was busy working a checkout with lots of busy bargain hunters. The event will take place at 11 AM on Saturday, June 30th, at the 99 Cents Only store, on the Southeast corner of I-35 and Round Grove Road (3040) So, run on down to the Denton County Courthouse and get your marriage certificates quick! You won't find a cheaper place to get hitched in June!
All sorts of thoughts ran through my head when I read that. Mostly, it made me wonder if that's what the typical wedding in Rhydin should cost since the running joke is that the ceremonies last longer than the marriages. This brings me to my main point. When was the last time a huge bunch of RP buddies got together for a good old fashioned party? No one tending bar, no one worrying about who is running the room. Just kicking back to celebrate being together; maybe a birthday or a wedding. Maybe something in the spirit of the seasonal parties Dey and Hunter used to throw. How about it?
We have amazing IC resources to pool for this kind of event! I have no idea who all is on this mailing list, but I can bet everyone has a character that could make a contribution of some sort. Ariana has a well known bakery that does catering. Rose Wylie makes chocolate candies to die for. Dris is the resident musical genius. Collie's got a big garden to hold an outdoor party and a ballroom to hold an indoor one.
Is anyone game for this sort of event?

This Just In There's a first for everything. Such as this being the first time since the revival of the newsletter that I actually received enough news worthy of being transformed into a couple of storyline headlines. Huzzah!
Headlines
Dragon Gets the Drop on Downtown Area: Late in the evening hours of Wednesday evening leading into Thursday morning, patrons at the Rambling Rose Tavern were shaken out of their drinks by the arrival of what couldn't be mistaken for anything less than a great big, fat, colossal red dragon! The cross section blocks of Mesmeric St. & Northedge Rd. were thoroughly decimated by the monster's massive feet during a not quite so epic battle between the gigantic red and a much smaller bronze dragon who has yet to be identified. Witnesses of the destruction have remained reluctant to speak about what they saw. On the upside, this is a good time to be a construction worker, as repair crews have been working round the clock to put the pieces of the city back together again.
The Return of the Great White D'oh!: For two long years now, they have been gone but not forgotten. Ubique's Weekly has been reporting exclusive coverage of the entity known as Hmte for quite some time now. Members of the Mutual Endeavors message board forum have been privy to just such exclusive information for the past couple years. With the return of our newsletter comes the return of giant activity! In recent news: Friday night, a pair of giant soldier ants accompanied by a few scouter ants made an assault on the Rambling Rose. They were stopped, fatally, by the dwarf Rusty (SN Myriad Myndz), Irina and Cat. It seems that Hmte is coming out of whatever torpor it has been in for over a year, and is back to its old ways.
In Other News... Yadda, yadda, yadda. Thank yot to everyone who sent me individual character updates this week! And if I hadn't said it before, also thanks to the other articles I received. Saves me time and energy to not have to drop my own BS every week. Right, right. Here's this week's character news:
Cheruth (SparklyReptile): Rumor has it the crystal was seen in the company of one bruised and battered Icarus Marcotte. He escorted the man back to his cottage to get some much needed rest.
Dris (BardGaIIant): Everything was going splendidly, until Icarus popped up looking like he just crawled out of the bowels of hell. Now the musician is stuck playing nursemaid.
Ehzoterik VonArcanum Tempestas (Ehzoterik): Everybody's favorite, friendly neighborhood psychopath was spotted recently at the Rambling Rose Tavern. A day or two before the great dragon attack. She swears she has nothing to do with that incident whatsoever and claims that people should file all complaints with the lady upstairs.
Faladar (Afreet Master): Faladar has recently given the task of managing his fiefdom to a handful of trusted Janissaries, focusing instead on his expanding guerrila campaigns. The Elven general is distracted though. Finally confronted by Mike over his festering weirdness, his next visit to the Rose must be a sobering rendezvous with the Wylie brothers. Perhaps the Rambling Rose has finally seen the last of him?
Gage Sterling (Aversion Toward): Whore for hire. Well? That's what he is! Though recently he was seen in the company of a crazy man by the name of Gavin. Gage was off the clock himself, and decided to indulge in a little no expectations company. It was a nice, if not also weird, change of pace.
Icarus Marcotte (SubtIe Iies): The last anyone saw of dear Icarus, he was rushing out the front doors of the Rambling Rose Tavern with cane in hand fully prepared to battle a dragon that was at least ten times larger than he was. What the hell were you thinking, Icarus!?
Irina Braeden (Irina Braeden): What's up with the white blond haired artist behind Bright Suns these days? It's weirdness this time out, even for Rhydin standards. Irina found herself witnessing a dragon attack around the Rambling Rose Tavern this past week. Thankfully, she and most of the others present at the Rose that night escaped unharmed. Though she's worried that Icarus (SubtIe Iies), who was out in the middle of things, hasn't been heard from since. Not to mention that the Artist met Morgan's not dead after all parents, Andrew and Maura Knight (Andrew IRB AG, Chaos Sentence) recently. According to Carolyn (DreamsInBurgundy), Irina actually made an impression on the pair. After some late night advice from recent newlywed Mike (MichelangeIo H), she's decided to take things slow concerning dating Tobias (Tobias Garret). On the not so weirdness front, Irina and Jolen (Truth Denyed) have been hanging out at Jolen's pub, the Blank Sign Tavern and the pair even went clothes shopping last week. Are things looking up for Irina? "Pass the iced coffee." seems to be her motto lately. Stay tuned to find out more.
James Tanner (Myriad Myndz): Still no sign of the gambler, perhaps he's still holed up in his floating casino, perhaps not. Only time will tell for sure.
Jolen (Truth Denyed): The owner/operator of The Blank Sign Tavern was seen out at the Rambling Rose Tavern this past week accompanied by one Quinn Norcross. Mr. Driscol's nehpew managed to convince the young man to buy himself something a little stronger then the usual water or soda, the result : It was made quite obvious that he has little to no tolerance for alcohol, much to both of their chagrin.
Kyleen Martel (KyIeen MarteI): She's gone back to her routine of working, and staying home. Seems her encounter with the master of nightmares broke her from her desire to socalize. Or maybe it's just the lack of a decent night's sleep that's responsible.
Legion (Myriad Myndz): The L337 0n3 made a rare apperance at the Rambling Rose Tavern, which resulted in the temporary destruction of a laptop computer (his own) and a rather philosophical discussion concerning a variety of topics from Hitler, to Slavery, to Spanish conquistidores of all things. He mysteriously vanished after the apperance of one Ehzoterik. ...somehow this is not surprising.
Martin Gilcrest (I Like Tonberry): Shh. Don't tell anybody, but the pyromaniac's birthday is coming up. He has been witnessed meandering the corridors of the Garden tittering maniacally. Oh crap. He's going to be 18. That means...
Mesteno (Bronze Mesteno): The past week has seen Mesteno playing the social butterfly, in the company of Carpathians, water-ballooning boxers and even a cop at one point. A rare visit from his brother, Salvador, has left him with an unpleasant option to make, but other than that, life seems to be running fairly smoothly for the Sadist. Just don't mention that he gets moony-eyed whenever a winged blonde makes an appearance!
Quinn Norcross (Quinn Norcross): He's new and town and already things are tilting toward the crazy side of life. The musician's nephew never could have predicted Rhy'din to be this frigging weird. First he's nearly eaten by a creature he has been reluctant to describe on threat of what he claims to be pain by agonizing brain-sucking death. Then he gets kissed by a super light-weight drunken Jolen. Quinn has hence decided to keep any and all alcoholic beverages far, far away from the kid, but hasn't been seen in the public eye since that incident. Is he hiding?
Rusty (Myriad Myndz): The only member of Inter Dimensional Pest Control (IDPC) stationed in Rhydin had his first encounter with the dreaded Hmte Friday evening. He had just arrived at the Rambling Rose Tavern when the bugs showed themselves. He took down one soldier quite easily with a spray of Industrial insecticide, but another made it's way indoors. He charged after it to find two ladies, Cat (Matakhat Kain) and Irina (Irina Braeden) unleashing a small storm of flying lead at the big bug. A few scouts had followed the soldier in, and just to be safe, the tavern was sprayed for the pests. Now whether or not the insecticide itself causes any health problems for the tavern goers, remains to be seen.
Salvador Delahada (Karmic Venganza): Is not having sex. Don't believe what you read.
Shadi (Shadibadoo): Disaster! The recent dragon attack at the Rose saw Shadi spend a night at the Wylies'. He'd never seen Seamus's place before, and the "homey" environment was a pleasant alternative to his store-room. With reconstruction drawing thirsty crewmen during the day, Shadi finds his custodial duties are a tad more time consuming.
Sinjin Fai (Sinjin Fai): Is having sex. That is all.
Valentine Shyre (XValentineShyreX): Where has the little thing been for the past few weeks? She's been at home working on a project of sorts. The only time she's left the house was to buy more food and the occasional stop at a tavern for a drink. The few to spot her are those who've stopped by for a visit or dragged her out for some fun. What is she working on? Well, she's allowed to have a secret or two, right?
Classifieds Nothing new yet...
Mutual Endeavors Forum : The freeform role-playing group more commonly known as Mutual Endeavors has moved its storylines and characters to a message board forum for player convenience. It was decided that it would be beneficial to allow players a less time-restricted venue in which to present their characters' stories and participate interactively. Not everyone can be online at the same times all the time. Therefore we opened up this forum to the masses. If you're interested, registration is completely free and unmoderated. Check it out! * * *
Mutual Endeavors LJ Community : Before the message board forum was ever considered, another attempt at keeping Mutual Endeavors alive and active was put into motion with the creation of the LiveJournal Community. If you have a LiveJournal of your own, you are thoroughly encouraged to join our community at any time. Stay up-to-date and in the loop with our random ramblings and discussions. Some are held there and others are held on our forum. Everyone is welcome. Don't be shy! * * * Navarra Farms : is temporarily opening opportunities for stud services with four of their finest stallions. Ubique's Archive : For several years now, the Ink Wire Associates and I have been trying to archive every old issue of Ubique's Weekly onto the internet. It has been a slow-going process, and I assure you that not every past issue has been completely coded and uploaded to the site. The work is, to say the least, very tedius. We're doing the best we can. In the future, we may also simply move all new issues to the site and do away with a mailing list entirely. We'll see. Until such a decision is reached, old news is still news and well worth the read. Do enjoy.
Announcements Someone was supposed to write me up an announcement this week, but I got nothing. This does not surprise me, as I hardly ever get anything from the person in question. However, since it was brought to my attention and I actually managed to remember it, now is probably a good time to announce the union of Mike Harada (MichelangeIo H) and Allen Baird (A Flaming Flamer) in holy matrimony. Rumor has it the turtle and the pyro eloped to one of the Disney magic kingdoms and got themselves hitched a couple of weeks ago. Congratulations!
Final Thoughts Before I wrap up, I just want to say a little something about updates. I'm trying to stick to a set pattern of always sending the newsletter out on Saturdays. Time is irrelevant, since I never seem to compile the thing at the same time every single week. I tried starting early, but that doesn't always work. In any case, expect the newsletter every Saturday at some time. I know I send those update reminders out on Friday, but like I said in this last one: if you don't see the latest issue of UW in your inbox, then it's probably still safe to send me updates. There is no late except for too late, and too late only comes once the latest issue is sitting in your inbox waiting to be read.
I hope I've made this abundantly clear. I hope you all enjoyed the readnig this week. I hope more people become motivated to send me news in the future, as I'm getting tired of making things up based on what I've seen and what I remember. I don't remember everything, so it helps to receive emailed information from you, the reader. Until next week, I'll continue to be...
