Hello, readers.  I'm not feeling to verbose this week, but I will again apologize for the lateness of this week's issue of Ubique's Weekly.  I'm tired and cranky and instead of procrastinating any more than I already have, I'm just going to get on with the news.  So here it is.

Storyline Spotlight

We are currently seeking submissions for this section.  A good example of what would be accepted as a good Spotlight is any write-up of a current room in which players gather to play.  In the past we have run articles on the Silver Moon Inn, the Rambling Rose Tavern, and the newest riverboat casino known as The Lady Luck.  Descriptions and synopses of establishments in which characters gather are wonderful collections to input into this section of the publication.  But do not limit yourselves there.  Many characters are involved in rather intricate storylines that perhaps do not have a base of operations so to speak.  The Editor In Chief has heard rumors of a coffee house establishment that she would like to see a write-up on in the future at some point.  There is also a rumor of a thieves' guild in the greater Rhy'Din area.  All of this and more!  Please send us anything that you think could be used in an effort to forward information and get players involved.  Either send it to the SSE DarkAngelGenesis or the EIC Ehzoterik.  Heck, even send it to both of them if you are uncertain.  No matter how you do it, just share your news with us.  We'll be certain to spread the word for you if you're willing to cooperate.

This Just In

UW's Collaborative Headline Editor is currently on a leave of absence from her duties amongst the Ink Wire Associates.  Until such a time that Jess is ready to return to her duties, the EIC will be taking control of this section once again.  If any of the other Associates would like to take charge of things instead, please notify Ehzoterik.  The same goes for any of our readers.  If anyone would like to cover this section for a little while and act as an Interim Co-Editor, please feel free to contact me.  As for now, here's the news.  Headlines in dark red-brown are IC news, and the ones in dark blue are OOC news.  Enjoy.

Here Comes Peter Cottontail, Hopping Down The Ranch Trail:  In the tradition of the Spook Spectacular Haunted Hayride and Winter Wonderland events at Dr. Maranya Valkonan's ranch, the good Doctor and her gardener Jack Bishop are planning an Easter Egg Hunt event on March 27th, the proceeds going to benefit programs at Riverview Clinic as well as bring laughter and fun to local orphans and underprivileged children.  Bring your baskets and your sense of humor! (The Valkonan family in no way, shape, form, or fashion take responsibility for any damages by the pranks, jokes, handshakes, or general contact with Jack Bishop.)

Kobold Blooded Killers:  The local Rhy'Din PD reports that an area farm on the outskirts of town was raided this weekend by a small band of bloodthirsty kobolds.  Findings conclude that the usually timid creatures perhaps had been maddened by an obscure strain of rabies due to forensics reports.  Earl and Doreen Gilbert never saw what was coming, nor did their three children (Lily, Gil, and Little Sue).  Area investigators have deduced that the roving eleven kobolds overran the house in the middle of the night, slayed the entire family, and decided to make themselves at home gorging on the food in the family's cupboards.

Investigators are currently trying to determine how it came to pass that the small band of kobolds later ended up dead themselves.  Evidence found at the scene of the crime suggests a battle took place in the Gilbert home between the kobolds and an as-of-yet identified third party.  Who or whatever ended the lives of the kobolds unfortunately did not arrive early enough to save the family from their own untimely demise, but the authorities would still like to congratulate the vigilante(s) for eliminating a threat that could have claimed the lives of other farming families nearby.

Mysterious Manslaughter:  News flash!  Early this morning authorities were baffled to discover the mutilated remains of two young men left in the middle of the street several blocks down from the Silver Moon Inn.  The local police department is reluctant to speak on any theories, but they have been more than willing to supply us with details concerning the nature of the deaths.  Investigators have concluded that one of the men was killed by having many sharp spikes impaled through his chest and abdomen, a method that killed him instantly.  Apparantly the second man had been crucified to the ground by sharp objects being impaled through his palms.  Gutted and disemboweled, he was left to die miserably.  Both victims had their genitalia removed, a fact that has left investigators baffled.  The authorites are still investigating possible motives for the killing and assure us that they will tell us more once they have figured it out themselves.

RDI Options:  Taken from the March 6th edition of the Multiverse Minutes:  It seems that the people in charge of the Games Community (if there actually are people in charge anymore) have decided not to care about the wants of the members.  Currently there is an option for escape that could provide itself as a haven for roleplayers looking for a decent place to hide.  For more details visit Amber Gamers - Internet Gamers and Groups.  But wait, there's more!

"Several other choices have been proposed for un harassed role playing.

"1.) BIkPanther (RDI Panther) is developing a web site with chat rooms, message boards and other features to escape the utter garbage that is now infesting the RDI. We would have more control over the rooms now that the HOSTs have been disarmed (again) and be able to eject or ban disruptive/foul-mouthed members.

"2.)  We could make our own Member room, and for those HOST's with PowerTools, the AOL Room Owner's Tools become formidable weapons for ridding ourselves of those members whose only purpose it to disrupt and violate the Terms Of Service.  Ironic that AOL gives the regular members more power in the Member Rooms than they give the HOSTs in the Conference Rooms.

"I for one," says Fayalki, "plan to stick it out in the RDI Conference room for as long as possible, despite the name-calling and disrespect I've encountered there lately. If we can come up with some reasonable solution to the problem, I'll gladly join in.

"I still think AOL should come up with a way to attach the Room Owner Tools to the HOST prefix and let us use it in the Conference Rooms."

I couldn't agree more, but it doesn't look like it's bound to happen any time soon.  Us gamers apparantly aren't important enough to worry about in regards to our wants and needs.  But perhaps there is still some hope left somewhere.  Not very many people are holding onto that narrow thread, though.  The future isn't particularly looking very bright.

State of the RDI:  Excerpt taken from the March 13th edition of the Multiverse Minutes:  "Several people, including me, have been logging the activity in the Red Dragon Inn.  I doubt AOL would be interested, but there's enough evidence there to get several accounts terminated.  Last night (Friday) was, however, a perfect evening during my shift.  I issued only one on-screen reminder for room disruption, and it actually worked! We had 30+ people in the room at times, and a lot of old-time role players were enjoying themselves.

"Thursday night Dey ad I spent a pleasant evening in the A&E Member Room Red Dragon Inn.  There was quite a crowd.  RDI Panther was officiating, and to my knowledge did not have to 'eject' anyone from the room.  At least, in the member rooms, the HOSTs are armed!

"The off-AOL message boards and chat rooms are moving right along.  Panther and others have set up an impressive web site. No flashing ads to bog down the chat, and the message boards are moderated by real people."

In Other News...

Since there has been no delay, the individual Character Updates for this week are few and far between.  However, there have been more than usual.  We're very grateful for those of you who did submit updates this week and look forward to receiving more in the future.  Here we go.

Ai Kajikari (Ai Kajikari):  The Professional Eccentrist arrived on the scene of Rhydin with a burst of energy and a [censored]-eating grin!  But just what IS a Professional Eccentrist?

Alexander Camael Woods (Terra Nephilim):  Starting to realize that there's only one person who can help him with his brother's problem.  Pride is a tough meal to swallow.

Alexander Camael Woods (Emerald Mirror):   He spent a happy weekend with his twin celebrating their sixteenth birthday, which was Sunday. His brother, as usual, seems far more concerned about his 'problem' than Xander himself is.

Ariana (ArianaMacGyldren, SMI Ariana):  The green sister, along with her husband Galen (Galen MacGyldren) and daughter Elaine (Elaine Aqua), still resides at her husband and brother in law's clan lands.   Ariana is hard at work at her Bakery to produce Easter candies and treats, along with other baked goods as usual.

Auggy (August R Benson):  There have been rumors of his death, but no tangible proof as of yet.

Aya Aillister (Destiny of Music):  The bard-girl went on a very nice date!  Now if only Carolyn would stop panicking over every little thing, maybe things would be perfect.  What's she gonna *do* with that girl anyway?!

Carmine (TaciturnMerc):  The mercenary has recently heard about a new riverboat casino that has opened up not too long ago.  Currently he has some plans to go check it out, especially since he would not put it past his son to go adventuring there.  In fact, he probably already has.  He also is looking for the perfect birthday gift for his son does have one coming up soon.

Carolyn Valkonan (DreamsInBurgundy):  Just when she thinks life MIGHT be getting back to normal, things have to go and throw her a curveball! What? Date? Huh?! Good thing Spring is coming--time to think about baseball!

Cassandra Tyra (Against Descent):  Surprises abound. Most of all the fact that she had a most excellent time snowboarding this weekend, even with it being her first time. Lots of firsts for the Hieracthon, lately.  Her job at the Lady Luck has been going rather well.  Of course there are certain events leaving questions to be answered.  Just what the hell IS an 'eccentrist', anyway?!

Dinosaurs (Supersaur Love):  The family of troodons(or Bird-lizards) had to move out of Carven's maze after some mysterious insects killed one of their chicks.  It has been a very rough winter but a real father never gives up and neither did Samsin-Pinfeathers.  The heroic father dealt with the snow, missing meals to keep his chicks and hen fed, and even battled a small wolfpack.  To say Samsin-Pinfeathers would be right in wondering why he took a mate is an understatement.  Thankfully 2 chicks remains and his mate is healthy, what else can any packleader truelly desire?

Doctor Maranya Tatiana Valkonan (Maranya Valkonan):   She's tending to her patients as usual, including one of the tenders at the Silver Moon Inn and a young woman with emotional problems.  The good Doctor continues to spend time volunteering her medical services at a local free clinic.  Maranya is helping with Jack's plans to run an Easter Egg hunt on the ranch because the proceeds will not only benefit Riverview Clinic but the orphans and other underprivileged children invited to participate.  She has also hired yet another person to look after her six horses, Ai (Ai Kajikari).  Otherwise, the good Doctor has stuck to dealing with her patients at Riverview Clinic and making things comfortable for her new Siamese kitten, Zorro, at her ranch.

Dris (BardGaIIant):  Nothing too spectacular to note, though Dris has been considering paying a visit to the new riverboat casino that opened up recently.  Gambling?  Oh yes.  It's bound to happen eventually.

Ehzoterik VonArcanum Tempestas (Ehzoterik):  During a random appearance this past week, Ehz dropped by the Rambling Rose Tavern and had herself a nice conversation with a man named Damarr.  It seems the topic at hand was something about decorative underwear for the male persuasion.  Giraffes?  Oh my!

Elaine (Elaine Aqua):  No solo exploring jaunts for Elaine at all.  She's hard at work with her studies at Northedge Academy.  The eleven year old's also been helping her Ma, Aunty Allison and Melly (Ariana MacGyldren, Allison Reynor and Melanie Wyndham) with the candymaking at her Ma's Bakery.  Elaine still misses Beauty but is consoled by taking care of the rest of Empress Emerald of Grayfur's kittens, though she's still grumpy that she's not allowed to name the kittens.   Elaine really misses her brother Banshee (Banshee Aqua) and really truly doesn't believe he's truly gone.

Emmy (Empress Grayfur):  Well her remaining three kittens are pretty much grown enough to take care of themselves now.  However, the Empress would like to see them find their own homes instead of crowding up Ariana's place!

Faye: She Who Tends the Dead (Faye Random):  Still hibernating.

Hector Norris (Hector Norris):  'Whipped Cream' is in trouble with the law......again.  Apparently one week after someone stole his curved knife-oh wow-some low level goomba ends up dead.  Shocking...not!  Heck's keeping his head down and eyes open as a 'Wild Thief Hunt' kicks up on the dirty streets of Rhydin's Underground.  Yeah he's *censored*.

Irina Braeden (Irina Braeden):  In this week's installment, among the news of note for this native Rhydin resident was that she was spotted at the Rambling Rose Tavern and the Silver Moon Inn  this past week.  Issue #31 of Bright Suns is out on the stands and available at Comic Masters.  Irina is hard at work on Issue #32, but she took a well-deserved break to kick back on a kickass snowboarding trip with her friends Morgan, Cass, Stephen, Cat, Jack and Sal (Morgan Rampage, Against Descent, Stephen Valkonan, Matakhat Cain, Jackrabbit Blue and Peculiar Silence) this past weekend.  Life goes on.  Stay tuned.

Jack Bishop (Jackrabbit Blue):  Never a dull moment in bunny-boy's life!  Now that he's been getting out of work more often and spending time with friends, things have been great!  The snowboarding trip this past weekend was entertaining and enjoyable.  He's looking forward to more excursions like that.  In his off time he's been planning the events of the Easter Egg Hunt scheduled for the 27th over at Doc Anya's ranch.  It's going to be great, and life is good!

Kakabel (Celestial Sorrow):  No one really knows what the Prince of Stars has been up to, but it is a high possibility he has been watching over his son for a good long time.  However, he has refused to make any appearances for a while.  Perhaps the best place for him is residing in the shadows as a silent observer.  Rei seems to be able to take care of himself, so there's no need for him to get involved.  Right?

Matakhat Cain (Matakhat Cain):  Nothing so out of the ordinary for the perky blonde this week other than finding a much wanted designer bag on sale. Though, it was a phenomenal savings, she is only a bit concerned about her father (Donatello Harada) getting the bill. Other than the little shopping spree, she's been looking forward to a snowboarding trip this weekend with her fiancee (Stephen Valkonan), Morgan (Morgan Rampage) Irina (Irina Braeden) and friends. All seems to be going well for the young collegiate this semester.

Melly (Melanie Wyndham):   The shy relief baker is hard at work helping craft the Easter candies and other treats that Ariana's Divine Delights Bakery is well known for.  Will she tend bar at the Silver Moon Inn again?  The world may never know.

Mer Harriss (Heavy Metal Mer):  Rumor from Coruscant says the Virtual Adept may be getting a raise. As usual, she prefers to wait and see before celebrating her good fortune as of yet.  Where's the catch?

Micarryl (Still More Drow): Mica zhah dro 'sohna. Uk uriu tlus belbaunin natha sel killian wun k'lar d'lil uss nindel zhahus t'larryo a ukt streea. Klezn ph' b'vecko lu' uk kre'jen ulu satiir trantz 'sohna.

Morgan Knight (Morgan Rampage): After a thoroughly enjoyable snowboarding trip, Morgan's back home and his problems are pressing on him once more.  Between certain changes in his circle of friends, and a disturbing *lack* of action on other fronts, he's starting to become quite concerned.  He doesn't need this!  Give him a break!
 
Peter Rasah (Peter Rasah):  Besides his duties to the Spellslinger's guild, helping out local charities, and now working on a dairy farm the 'evil' sorceror has been quite busy.  Seems there is a guildrule to remind all initiates 'the lesson of humility' and hence his current donation of his time and mundane effort on the dairy farm.  After certain amounts of time(different for every wizard) each guildmember must donate their time(and muscle) to help one struggling business.  Rasah was chosen to help a local dairy herdsman.  During his voluntary forced indentured servitude he must perform all his duties mundanely and without use of any magic.  It's tougher than it looks.  So despite an appointment to teach Cat a House spell he hasn't been able to get out since he has to literally 'wake with the cows'.

Rei (AmethystStarfall):  Rei's quest to restore Mica from the land of the dead is over, though he claims that he did not do much to make this happen.  Mica is now among the living once more, and Rei can return to what he considers a mundane life.  School, parties, and the whole nine yards.

Salvador (Peculiar Silence):  Just who are these friends of his anyway?  Sal's existence during the past week has been nothing but a roller-coaster ride of ups and downs that have left onlookers baffled and surprised in regards to his nature.  Having learned that his good friend Val had become a victim of rape, he took it upon hisemlf to do something about it by hunting the bastards down and making them pay.  Then he returned to make sure she was all right.  Val accepted Morgan's offer for a place to stay and Sal tagged a long to keep a watch over her.  Could it be?  Is it possible?  Is romance actually blossoming in the air?  Not likely, but that seems to be the popular theory.

Stephen Valkonan (Stephen Valkonan):  Miracles DO happen--as in Stephen pried himself out of his office and lab long enough to go on a snowboarding trip with his friends this weekend. Yes indeed, he can hot-dog it on the slopes with the best of them.  It was a much-needed break that was long in coming.  Now if only he can talk Cat out of Daytona for Spring Break...but maybe his pocketbook can survive that damage?

Theirrodur (Theirrodur):  Theos has gone missing from his sparring lessons with Parhi and mundane attempts to locate him are drawing up short.  Where do you lose a guy that big at?  Why didn't he tell anyone where he was going?  What could he be doing?

The Menagerie (GrandMenagerie):  The numbers of the Ranch are still of the incline whether from fellhounds to puppies or the upcoming spring lambing all seems peaceful......so far.

Yeehaw Kikass (YeeHaw M Kikass):  The 'evil' sorceror Rasah turned him into a deer and a deer yet he is.   Yee is not happy, he was especially upset to find out that deer don't eat elves but vice versa.  He is not a happy young buck.
 
Zetarris (Zetarris):  FINALLY he is back. He is pleased to find that his houseplants did not die in his absence. Corn is hard enough to grow in a pot without being neglected. He may now resume work on building his giraffe ranch.

Dear Ava

Dear Ava,
       I have been seeing this girl for a while, and one night last week I stayed overnight at her place.  (No sex, just a little kissy-face.)  But once when she was taking a shower, I went in to grab some tp, and I caught a glimpse of her in the shower.  She was twisting all around, I don't mean in a sexy way - I mean she was like changing, like her bones were rearranging!  I don't think she knows I saw her.  I made a quick excuse and got out.  I'm not sure I should be taking her calls.  I mean, I thought she was just a garden variety half-elf, you know?  And like now, I don't know what to think.  How should I handle this?

Dear Freaked Out,
       I can see why such a moment might be disturbing, but let's keep things in perspective - you seem to get along well enough with this girl that she isn't averse to your spending the night at her place.  Did she explicitly tell you she was a half-elf?  Attempting to conceal her nature might be a danger sign, but then it's all about context.  Shapeshifters of various kinds are occasionally persecuted, and she might simply be frightened of your rejection.  My advice is to level with her about what you saw, and put your cards on the table.  Let her know that if she wants to explain you'll be willing to listen - unless you aren't, of course, in which case it's only fair to let her know that too.  If her 'bone rearranging' is really too disturbing for you to view but you like her otherwise, simply ask her to give you fair warning so that you can close your eyes and silently count your blessings.
