Good day, loyal subscribers. Hopefully this week's issue finds you all in good spirits. I must confess that after reading over the number of updates I received this week, my spirits rocketed upward tremendously. It is always a joy and a pleasure putting this newsletter together for your reading enjoyment. It warms my heart to know that there are still people out there who continue to fight the good fight. All of us share a common goal, though we may have different ways of battling towards that goal. The dream is to keep freeform chat-based cooperative roleplaying alive and continuous through the years to come. None of us can predict the future, but I at least imagine it to be a brighter place. In the words of W. H. Murray:
"Until one is committed, there is hesitancy, the chance to draw back, always ineffectivness. Concerning all acts of initiative (and creation), there is one elementary truth, the ignorance of which kills countless ideas and splendid plans: that the moment one definitely commits oneself, then Providence moves, too. We here at Ubique's Weekly have made a commitment to each and every one of you. We are committed to experiencing the news, learning the news, and sharing the news with each and every one of you. Hopefully our efforts are not entirely in vain. Bear in mind that this newsletter would be nothing without your support. Your news is our news. Do not be afraid to share it with us so that we can share it with others. Roleplaying is a great joy, one in which we share with a wide variety of others. To quote Zaphod Beeblebrox, from Douglas Adams' The Restaraunt at the End of the Universe: "How do you know you're having any fun if there's nobody watching you have it?" Top Story!
While wracking my brain for ideas that would make good top stories, I have been repeatedly directed to posts that can be found on the boards here: Red Dragon Inn. One of my greatest peeves is to rehash something that someone already wrote and try and claim it for oneself, so I have simply provided the link for all the readers out there so that you may prowl through the board yourself and take a peek at all the things that are being said. Some of the threads that I found to be of particular interest were the following:
What's The Hook? This thread talks about those hooks and phrases one uses when playing a character that helps make them unique.
Prop Neglect This is a thread that addresses the issue of having a character come into the room with some kind of character prop that they intend to use for storyline purposes, such as a trebuchet or lava lamp and then oddly forgetting the item is in existence as play progresses.
What To Do With the Children? Here is a thread that talks about children that characters might have, and addresses the issue if a player has ever had their character write a child out of a storyline, and what reasons there might have been for this decision.
What Makes A Character Real This thread discusses various tactics one may use to have their character seem like a real being, and not just a bunch of text that flies across the screen.
What Do You Love About Your Character? This thread is pretty self explanatory. It talks about the various sorts of things that make a person enjoy playing the character that they have created.

Fires in Rhydin
People with ties to the Less Crowded Inn said a million memories went up in smoke when the structure was lost to a fire. The cause of the fire is still unknown, but at least two witnesses to the blaze claim that it all started due to the actions of a very unhappy ghost. "The fire started on the bar, and was a strange blue shade, and I could swear that I heard a woman crying," said Ardanan, who recently discovered the inn and took his little brother there for a visit. The actual cause of the fire is still unknown, and fortunately no injuries were reported. The blaze swiftly consumed the inn when it started and in an amazingly short time, all that was left of the structure was charred wood and ash. Bear in mind that the available witness was rather shaken up, so this fire could have been caused by any number of means, and is not necessarily attributed to ghostly activities. We shall keep you informed as new developments in this story arise.
In related news, other smaller spontaneous fires were seen to have erupted seemingly out of nowhere in several locations hours later after the initial Less Crowded Inn blaze. Firefighters were able to respond to these fires in time to prevent any further structures from being consumed as the Less Crowded Inn was. All of the smaller blazes seem to be located in a five mile radius centered upon the Onyx Nite Inn. Authorities are still investigating the origin of the fires, but so far they seem to conclude that these have been the work of some sort of pyrokinetic ability that went seriously awry. One thing that they have been able to establish is that these later fires and the one at the Less Crowded Inn seem to be separate incidents.

This Just In
Thank God, I have a purpose in these pages for once! Keep it up, folks, and I'll keep reading! You'll notice a change to the layout this time. The IC headlines are in the traditional brown, and OOC notices are in green. I thought I'd make them easier to seperate. Also, anyone interested in a totally IC newsletter, perhaps a Rhydin newspaper? Inquiring minds want to know!
The Great Journal Caper: Rhydin is a land of odd events and inexplicable mysteries. One such occurrence is the nonsensical theft of assorted journals across the land. What sort of force or being is responsible for such a deed, and why would such a thing steal journals? As if that were not enough to make people ponder, it seems that this rash of journal theft has even struck creatures in dimensions other than Rhydin. Strangely nothing else has been reported missing, only journals. Could it merely be a nexus hiccup? Will all the missing journals be recovered? One can only hope.
Son of a Beach: Rhydin Shore Patrol is still investigating a massacre at what appears to have been a luau. Details on the shooting spree are being withheld by authorities. A total of twenty-six people were shot to death with a variety of weapons. Until further notice, a square mile of Rhydin's coast is closed to the public.

Winter Plunderland: The Winter Wonderland events at Dr. Maranya Valkonan's ranch have been canceled until further notice, due to unforeseen technical problems. Those still wishing to contribute to programs at Riverview Clinic can contact Dr. Valkonan directly at the Clinic.

Red Dragon News (Please read, important notice) : In a breaking story, our sources within the RDI FFGF Community confirm a changing of the guard in regards to the Group@AOL. The group's official Spokesperson, RDI Fayalki, is reported to have announced giving control of the Group over to member RDI Panther. News has it that Fayalki has come to the decision that he has far too many concerns taking up his time, and has appointed Panth as his official replacement. This meaning that RDI Panther will be heading the group in the Leadership role in Fayalki's place. With credentials of more experience and knowledge of the RP scene, he is presented as being a better candidate for the job. Claims stand truthful that Fayalki will continue to act as spokesperson for the group, the liason between players and the ACI's. Fayalki will also continue to edit the Multiverse Minutes and maintain the FFGF RDI Group website through his FTP space. The full discussion on this matter can be reviewd on the RDI PaP boards under the subject heading of: Passing the Torch. Members have presented much moral support in this matter. As of yet, we here at UW are not 100% certain what this means for the Community as a whole. Rest assured we will keep you posted.
Competitors or Allies?: A month ago the Editor In Chief received an e-mail from a reliable roleplaying resource concerning the creation of an alternative Rhy'Din newsletter. In regards to the Red Dragon Inn Community, the speculative title of this newspaper is known as the Dragon's Breath. As far as our sources are aware, this newspaper is still a project in the works. We here at UW intend on giving our support to the cause and perhaps forming a future alliance should all work according to plan. An organization known as Realm of Rhydin is behind the creation of this newspaper. Though from what can be seen, most of this newspaper is web-based. Players are encouraged to review the Dragon's Breath at their leisure, and perhaps offer up some assistance and support where needed. So far things are looking up in regards to cooperative freeform roleplaying, collaboration, and keeping fellow players informed.
Dear Somebody: For the past month now we have included a repeated Headline concerning the idea of dedicating a new section to the newsletter that covers a question and answer series. Much like the Dear Abby seen in standard newspapers, we here at Ubique's Weekly are suggesting the implimentation of a similar editorial dedicated to characters. Half of what we write is for the players, and the other half is for the characters. So why not give our characters another way of expressing themselves in their world? Recently the Editor In Chief submitted a query to one of our subscribers in hopes of adding a new name to the list of Ink Wire Associates. Should this individual accept the job offer, we will be looking forward to including this new type of editorial in future issues. More news on this as it comes in.
Mutual Endeavors on the Web: With the appointment of the Ink Wire Associates, the Editor In Chief has been looking forward to improving the decor of the office located on the World Wide Web. As of yet we have received no word from our official Newsletter Archive Editor concerning progress. However, one fine day the EIC had been bored enough to work on the tedious task of archiving herself. To date only past issues numbers 1 through 24 are archived on the website. Less than half of the total published newsletters. Please be patient during this process, and hopefully in the future there will be more listed in the archives for review.
Also in regards to Ubique's Weekly, the Editor In Chief has discussed the decor of the Mutual Endeavors homepage located at: http://www.geocities.com/ehzoterik/ME.html. Currently the page consists only of links of interest in regards to roleplaying. After reviewing the RDI message boards, the EIC stumbled upon a thread of interest entitled "Sharing IC Illusion." It was a brilliantly worded post that was begun by member LdyBelial. The EIC sent a request to the writer of the post, requesting permission to use the work as a basis behind the meaning of Mutual Endeavors itself. The writer, flattered, agreed to grant our request. Keep your eyes peeled in the future for updates concerning the website and its structure. It is our intention and hope to present the best of roleplaying related activity there is to offer.

In Other News...
Without any elaborate fanfare, I give to you this past week's individual Character Updates...
Abdullah Jallaludin (Moonsmote): A new player makes his way to the stage. Abdullah Jallaludin is an Amiral Bahr, a prince of the sea. Raised by a more sane Faladar (before 'the pretzel incident'), Abdullah spent his youth hanging around friendly little Inns and taverns, not very much different from Shadi. However, his dreams of a scholarly life were interrupted by merciless invasion, and the traumatic experience has taught him that peace is impossible. War is eternal. Now he is a veteran warrior, sailing from one bitter jihad to the next.
Ahriman (TheAngraMaiynu): There comes a time for even the darkest of forces to fade completely out of the public eye. This is likely going to be the last tidbit of knowledge gleaned from this being for a very long time. Perhaps forever.
Anna (AriannaRavenwood): The blue sister continues to stay out of the public eye.
Ariana (ArianaMacGyldren, SMI Ariana): The green sister, along with her husband Galen (Galen MacGyldren) and daughter Elaine (Elaine Aqua), still resides at her husband and brother in law's clan lands. Ariana continues to stay out of the public eye, save to work at her Bakery as usual.
Aya Aillister (Destiny of Music): Aya is questioning her relationship with Carolyn and the changes that have brought her to this point.
Carmine (TaciturnMerc): It has not escaped his notice that yet more issues seem to be plaguing his son. Rather than burden the boy and demand he tell him now what is going on, he simply has informed him that he shall be there to listen when his son is ready to say something. On happier news, he decided that he is not too old for his work after all and has taken up his sword again. What job will the mercenary take now? That just remains to be seen. It seems that cheer is gradually returning to the man, and it is about time too.
Carolyn Valkonan (DreamsInBurgundy): Brooding and lots of it, in classic Valkonan style. Of course, school's started again, and that coupled with extracurricular activities has served to keep the little dreamer rather busy, with actual work if nothing else. She has been wondering where her journal's gotten itself off to. Probably under the bed somewhere--she's not too worried. Yet.
Cassandra Tyra (Against Descent): The Hieracthon has not been seen in most public places this week. Maybe Trouble's gotten to her, in pure kitten style?
Deputy Marshall Wynter (Rachael Wynter): The scarred law woman in black continues to work on wrapping up certain investigations (see Headlines). Rachael received information about a recent series of ritualistic murders from an anonymous informant and still investigates this lead. She still works closely with Doctor Nigel Newborn from RCSI on this case. Her ongoing investigations continue to keep the Deputy Marshall out of the public eye.
Doctor Maranya Tatiana Valkonan (Maranya Valkonan): She's tending to her patients as usual, including one of the tenders at the Silver Moon Inn. The good Doctor continues to spend time volunteering her medical services at a local free clinic. Maranya is very pleased with Jack's efforts to repair the damages to her ranch's landscaping from the invading zombies, said damages forcing a temporary cancellation of the Winter Wonderland fundraising events there. The good Doctor made a public appearance at the Silver Moon Inn, but has since stuck to dealing with her patients at Riverview Clinic and making things comfortable for her new Siamese kitten, Zorro, at her ranch
Dris (BardGaIIant): Something about the new year has made him feel years younger again. Dris has been spending a great deal more time playing instead of crafting instruments these days. Pleased with Carmine's sudden return to the mercenary trade, he is considering joining up with the merc once again in a series of adventures. The idea of traveling and doing odd jobs has him giddy. No matter what's in store for the future, one thing's for certain. He's ready to tackle any challenge!
Elaine (Elaine Aqua): No solo exploring jaunts for Elaine at all. She's enjoying the winter weather and having fun engaging in snowball fights with her cousins and family, as well as returning to her studies at Northedge Academy. The eleven year old's also been helping her Ma, Aunty Allison and Melly (Ariana MacGyldren, Allison Reynor and Melanie Wyndham) with the baking at her Ma's Bakery. Elaine still misses Beauty but is consoled by taking care of the rest of Empress Emerald of Grayfur's kittens, though she's still grumpy that she's not allowed to name the kittens. Elaine really misses her brother Banshee (Banshee Aqua) and really truly doesn't believe he's truly gone.
Emmy (Empress Grayfur): Fortunately Elaine is keeping her restless kittens very busy. She has been able to find more time to nap and relax. Despite this, she is still determined to help them find themselves some new homes. If only she could think up a plan. There has to be a good family or three out there somewhere!
Faye: She Who Tends the Dead (Faye Random): Still hibernating.
Faladar (Afreet Master): Oh, he feels it again! Its been months since Faladar metted out his obscure justice, so the impromptu executions of Siberian nursemaids was a good warm up. But there's something even worse looming on the horizon. Well, very far off the horizon actually. A far off land allied to Faladar (a rogue nation unto himself) is being attacked once again by a ruthless empire. A devastating Tsunami has left the little jungle kingdom helpless and starving, so they need any help they can get. Faladar looks forward to bloody guerilla warfare against a superior invader. He'll have to get his black pajamas and pungee sticks out of the attic.
Fury (ReversedHaIo): Oh where oh where can she be?
Irina Braeden (Irina Braeden): In this week's installment, the only news of note for this native Rhydin resident was that she was spotted at the Rambling Rose Tavern and the Silver Moon Inn this past week. Issue #29 of Bright Suns has also been spotted on the racks at Comic Masters in town. Stay tuned.
Joker (SMI Joker, Richard D Harker): The flirtatious bartender for the Silver Moon Inn tended his usual shift this week. Joker is still worried about his younger brother Nige (Peter N Harker). The eldest Harker brother is currently undergoing anger management counseling along with his usual medical treatments from the Valkyrie (Maranya Valkonan). Joker enjoys trying out the present Rhi (Rhiannon D Brock) got him on some of the winding roads around Rhydin. He also popped a certain question the other day to Rhi.
Jules (Jules Braeden): Life has been busy for the college student. So far she has been concentrating on her new business, and it seems to be doing well. Lots of people in Rhydin have a lot of interesting stuff to get rid of. She also plans to take some time away from all of that to catch up to speed with what her family has been up to.
Leon Southfield (Leon Southfield): Leon is in a flustered state of panic over his own big mouth, not that he's actually let anything slip yet.
Lyssa (Lyssa Bjornson): Ariana's shy dollmaking daughter continues to make dolls based on dreams she's been having for a still undetermined reason.
Matakhat Cain (Matakhat Cain): Matakhat spent a few days away from home last week to return to her native Mackamore. She'd been invited back to Bellecrest, the estate she was raised at, by her natural mother. That alone was enough to cause Cat concern, but because she has been in the process of trying to legally attain Bellecrest back from her mother, she made the trip. When she first came back, she was rather quiet and withdrawn but with classes starting again and Seamus and Rose moving into their new house, she soon seemed herself.
Melly (Melanie Wyndham): The shy relief baker is still relaxing from the holiday bustle at Ariana's Divine Delights Bakery. Will she tend bar at the Silver Moon Inn again? The world may never know.
Mer Harriss (Heavy Metal Mer): The Virtual Adept was in an uncharacteristically sour mood this past week, especially during her shift at the Rambling Rose Tavern. As to why this is, no one has yet figured that out. And as usual, Mer ain't talking.
Mesteno (Bronze Mesteno): After celebrating the anniversary of his first year with Michael as a partner, and seeing in the New Year, Mesteno has undertaken a multi-piece job for a high-paying benefactor seeking 5 antique paintings of a disturbing nature. Their collection has seen him robbing a museum, burning down a manor in the north of RhyDin and planning a trip to Paris for more trouble. More worrying is the interferance of a Law Enforcer from the Sadist's past who seems intent on putting him behind bars despite lack of evidence.
Micarryl (Still More Drow): Mica uriu alus ulu xxizz foluss ragar folbol wun Anzzar, l'Che'el d' Doboren. Rei zhah xuil ukta ji uk zhah naut tahta, naut uss leza.
Mithril (ASaintOfSinners): Even though he rarely writes in it, Mithril does keep a journal and now it has gone missing. He is not too worried about many being able to read it for he has written it in a dead language, but it is still annoying. He does not like things that are inexplicable, and mysterious journal thieves are just such a thing. He is going to get to the bottom of this one way or another.
Murder (Corvide Dispatch): The crow is breathing a guarded sigh of relief. Apparently it's found something that it has been searching for, and it is good.
Orion Ksyhsravor (Orion Ksyhsravor): Orion is pretty happy, now, based on some news he's received recently.
Rei (AmethystStarfall): Rei is all geared up and waiting to go on this adventure that he has been asked to take a part of. He was going to write about it in his journal too, only to discover that his journal has been misplaced! What an irritating thing to have happen. He has torn apart his room looking for it too, but with no luck. He had a feeling of dread that his mother might have taken it, but dismissed that idea quickly for she would have simply put it back just where she found it. Where oh where could his lost journal be?
Rekah (BIackTideRising): Rumor has it she was spotted by the docks but, that is hard to say and is really anyone's guess.
Salvador (Peculiar Silence): Nothing particular noteworthy. However, he did find himself very worried over the fact that somehow Shadi went and got himself poisoned. He's been urging his father to take the other boy to the doctor, but with him being such and old-fashioned man that doesn't seem likely to happen. Maybe he should be more confident that this entire poisoning thing will pass on its own. Being worried has put him in an even more pensive mood than usual. But with his journal having gone missing, he has no outlet! Maybe he just misplaced it? He's been forgetting some very important things these days. How distressing...
Shadi (Shadibadoo): Shadi's calming down, lettin' the happy flow back in after his near death experience. Yes indeed, our little Shadibadoo's been poisoned with malicious intent. Who did it? Nobody knows! But it may have been the friendly ice cream man, feeding grubby hands and chubby faces poisoned desserts! Anyway, writhing in pain all night left him available for some deep thoughts. Maybe memory is the enemy, and amnesia is our friend. If we remembered everything bad all the time, we'd go mad with grief. Shadi's just been thinking too deeply, is what he thinks. And what better way to obliterate thought than enroll in the educational system! Shadi might go to school!
Terrance Tomar-Duncan (Terrance Tomar): As of Sunday, Terry has gone away on business. He was not willing or able to tell friends exactly what this business is or where he is going, but it is admittedly not anywhere he wishes to go. He has stated that he is in good company, though, and does not expect to get killed. Much.
Vadriel (Vadriel de Guise): The Heretic was spotted visiting one of RhyDin's many libraries late one evening, but has otherwise been characteristically scarce. Quite why he was visiting the library is anyone's guess, but he arrived and departed empty handed.
Yoshi (KitsuneNineTails): One of the main problems with being a mischief spirit is that people blame him for things that even he did not do. He has not stolen anyone's journal. Honest!
Zetarris (Zetarris): Bugged off on a trip somewhere that required a passport. In his absence, others will be screwing around with doorbells for him so that task will not be neglected. He is offering a reward to anyone that can return to him a black and white journal with an angry face drawn on the cover, presumably stolen from his home in Rhydin. Nothing has been said about "no questions asked."
