Rhy'din Rumors 1 Year ago Karma: 1
Pardon me if this is posted in the wrong place! I thought this was a resource you guys might like to take advantage of, but I really wasn't sure what part of the forums it might belong in. If I've posted this in the wrong area, feel free to move it!

Occasionally there are circumstances -- events, character actions, places, or similar things -- that are things other character within the realm of Rhy'din might hear about. I know I've personally had things happen in story lines or random roleplay and said to myself: "Wow, I can see how other characters might hear about this!" But it's not exactly something that's considered 'playable' -- it's simple something other characters might have overheard in their Rhy'din travels.

With that in mind, The Rhy'din Rumors page was created.

Rhy'din Rumors is a user-submitted database of In Game rumors for roleplay use.

A rumor is anything you might want characters and players to catch whispers of in games -- it could be anything from the local gossip of a marriage, to something much more devious, like a local villain terrorizing in the streets. It can be a rumor about an event, a character, a place, or anything else you can think of. Here are a few examples:

- A strange messenger boy has been trying to find all the blacksmiths in town bearing a simple message: "Gold for cold-forged iron."

- There have been whispers in the streets that the priest of Re'hiya Temple has been accused of necromancy.

- Sailors and dock workers have been seeing a mysterious ship take port lately -- a ship with no Captain and no name..

How does Rhy'din Rumors work?

On the the submission page you can find a simple form to submit a rumor to the database as well as signing up for the "rumor newsletter." Once you sign up, you'll receive updates filled with random rumors your character might've been able to hear in their Rhy'din wanderings. You'll also be able to submit rumors yourself. Emails in the listings are divided into random groups -- so the rumors your character could hear might not be the same rumors that another character will hear. The database is refreshed on a monthly basis, so you'll be receiving the fresh word on the street.

Anyone who plays within the Rhy'din realm can submit a rumor to the database.

I'm still working on guidelines for submission -- such as maybe limiting the submission of rumors to your own characters/storylines? If anyone has any suggestions, that would be great!

::grins:: You oughta go affiliate with Marc Franco, the GossipGangSTAR! The rumors is a great idea, though -- more event based, less tabloid based. I think letting people submit rumors pertaining to their own characters/storylines is a great idea.

Was this for the city? Or the whole realm?

This looks awesome and looks like it could be fun! Though I have two questions!

When submitting and then once a rumor e-mail is sent out, do you edit out the submitters email/name? What if someone wants to sign up for the rumor letter but submit a rumor anonymously?

I've debating about this one -- I'm leaning towards the city of Rhy'din, but I'd like to hear opinions about this.

Thank you for reminding me of that, actually -- the rumors are completely anonymous. Emails and play names are only kept for our personal records in case there is a discrepancy and if the user would like to receive the rumor updates.

I am a big fan of this idea. It's excellent on about a million different levels, especially for players that long for a character with a bit of notoriety. This is a good vehicle for that, I think.

1. I vote for the entire realm. Not just the city, as there are many people who play in Rhydin but NOT in the city. Rumors could come from anywhere and into the city, where they may most often be heard. Larger crowds, the more a rumor circulates. But they have to come from somewhere, right?

2. You're going to end up replacing my "In Other News..." character news from Ubique's Weekly, rofl! I'm kidding. I like the way this idea is set up. I also like the simplistic single page style.

3. Now I have to figure out where to put this in our links collection! I'm not sure if this qualifies as an affiliate, a resource, a reading material thing or what! But I will link it when I can figure out where I want to put it.

All in all, awesome idea. Thank you for sharing it with us and I hope it takes off!
