I had an idea while I was trying to look up how to set up an RSS feed that would maybe go on GRs mainpage. A few years ago, purely for fun, Teddog (my code monkey) and I installed a Wiki on ShadowKnightOnline for my private universe. It was pretty easy to do, and it didn't run off of a database; it was a web-based wiki, which made it easier to work with, though a little slower.

I was wondering if anyone was willing to go in on a project like that. I don't want to administrate, patrol and run it alone -- I've got enough on my plate. But Teddog and I can set one up and I can help with it. I also don't know if I have enough room on ShadowKnightOnline to comfortably host both it and GreaterRealms in the long term, so webspace would be a ducky enough thing if anyone has it to spare.

It could be a pretty cohesive way to give people without website know-how a way to write much more indepth profiles for characters, settings or storylines, plus draw connections to other characters, etc. And since it's a wiki, it's all user-generated content. Likewise, it can be set so that people don't actually have to have a login to use it.

Chew it over and let me know.

I'm sorry. I'm too jaded to see this in a positive light. My brain keeps thinking of all the disasters recently and in the past and shies away.

I can see this being excellent, though, if it could be pulled together.

Unfortunately, M.E. is pretty much all I can handle on my plate right now.

On that, I can't say I blame you. Maybe something to keep in mind for when we're less bitter and miserable, though (and I mean that honestly, not as a stab... I, at least, feel rather bitter and miserable right now with all that).

A Wiki can be integrated into Joomla. Say the word.

All right... So far there are only four administrators for Mutual Endeavors right now. I'm considering hiring on a fifth. The problem is that most people are focussed on the forums, and we all know ME could be so much more. There's still a gallery option floating around somewhere that I haven't done squat with. And September is coming to a close and nearing October. You know what? I still haven't decided what to do with Ubique's Weekly, nor figured out how to make use of the newsletter system given by Joomla!

While we CAN support a Rhy'Din Wiki here on Mutual Endeavors, we have the space and the program at our disposal to do so, what we don't have is available and willing manpower.

Our administrative staff is stretched so thin right now, and only really three of the four of us spend a great deal of time maintaining the site and all its glorious resources.

Admittedly, I only really know how to moderate the forums in as much as adding new folders and setting up moderators for the individual UR folders. I also know how to delete posts and such because those tools are right in my face. I know how to add links and keep that area of the site neat and tidy. I know how to write news posts for the front page and keep them neat and tidy as well. But there are still a lot of things in the Joomla! system that I don't know.

I can only work on word content for the most part. When it comes to technical difficulties and visual pretty, I'm at a loss. My management skills only extend so far as trying to maintain the peace and bite off heads when necessary. All the impressive baubles everybody looks at are not things I understand.

However, I'm willing to give yet another idea a try. It's not like we can't get rid of it if it fails. Just like with the chat room option. I'm still a little weirded out by having a flashchat here, but there it is. Ready for testing and tinkering with.

Mel says no. I say maybe. But what I really say is: if you're willing to help maintain it, Steff, then I really need to talk to you about how far you're willing to go to help. And it's not something I want to drop on any new IWA's head and say "Hey congrats you're hired this is now your job!" I don't want to force any workload on anybody.

Speaking of the gallery, I don't think I like that one very much. There's a nother I like more. When you're ready, let me know.

The nice thing about Wikis is that -any- member can contribute. So it's completely viable as far as a working resource.
