Okay. That ... user comment option? It's a near idea and all, but I find it tremendously difficult to follow. There needs to be an easier way to determine when people have made new comments other than "e-mail me" or whatever the current option is. I get enough friggin' e-mails in my inbox already. I don't need a slew of new ones that keep me going "what? what the crap is this for?"

So in any case. My news on the Potential Forum Upgrade has been turning a few heads. Opened up a whole new world of debate that I never expected to see. So I'm going to request that all that discussion be brought over here where it's easier for me to read and follow.

I'm putting it here in the staff bulletins, because it is highly likely that I will be approving the upgrade in the near future. Stepping out of beta and into the new and improved "stable" version seems like a fairly decent idea. If you girls could just reorganize your thoughts on that news post and resummarize for me, that'd be great.

And if anyone else has anything to say on the matter, go right ahead. Staff Bulletin only means staff members may start threads over here. Again I stress that. But all members are fully permitted to reply. So let's discuss.

Tell me your thoughts on the upgrade options.

I think, all I generally said is that 'too much change, too fast, may drive away members.'

Constantly having to get used to where new buttons are, what does what, and so on may be to much of a hassle on new members just getting used to everything as it is.

However, since I don't think the stable version should be too different than the beta, I am all for stability. Especially if M.E. is looking forward to continued growth as it's going through now.

Some of the features you listed appeared a bit much, and I worry about having an overload of features = slower loading times.

Uhm. And then HG and I pretty much were having a conversation about themes.

Themes. So long as it meets the color scheme currently being used, that's fine. I like black text on white background. Brownish red. Or browns and reds. I tried my very best to convey that preference to Mike when he was creating the site, but it all came out as it stands now. Which most people seem to think of as pink.

This is pink to me.

And so is this.

I still see reddish brown hues. But maybe my monitor is set up different. I dunno. Because personally, as most people are aware, I absolutely DETEST the color pink. So having people say this all looks "sort of pinkish" kind of bothers me.

Additionally: I had a thought last night while I was trying to fall asleep. I've been thinking of reorganizing the layout of the forums. Since it was first created I've added in a lot of different options. So I'm considering making the Character Portfolio board it's own stand alone board instead of a child board. Put that and Game Announcements and Praise & Props and OOC Discussion in their own categories. Some stand alone all around OOC grouping.

Then move Behind the Scenes and Ubiquitous Realms up into the Storytelling category. Maybe even just get rid of NC-17 entirely, since I can't seem to do password access boards on this new forum, and nobody is really using it.

Thoughts?

I like the board reorganization ideas.

As far as the NC-17 stuff, you could make it members only. In all honestly, though, I tend to write that sort of thing for a very limited audience.
