The Rhy'Din Vindicator 1 Year, 4 Months ago Karma: 22
Well, since I firmly believe play can't just happen on DM/RDI, I wanted to post an open thread for the Rhy'Din Vindicator Chronicle here as well. See, the Rhy'Din Vindicator is a "serious" non-biased paper to report on the happenings in the realm -- some of you might remember it from back around 2002ish.

Currently, there's only been one special edition 'printed' which you can find here: http://www.geocities.com/rhydinvindicator/RVC081507SE.htm

I absolutely do not want the Vindy to just report on what happens on the RDI site -- I want it to encompass all of the realm. Here are the links to the guidelines: http://rdi.dragonsmark.com/forums/viewtopic.php?t=6692 -- I'll get around to making a proper webbie for the paper when things slow down a little bit. The pay doesn't count, but then again, no one here has to pay for advertisement either.

If you want to submit an article, opinion, or anything, feel free to e-mail it to This e-mail address is being protected from spam bots, you need JavaScript enabled to view it -- I can't hunt down all the news from across Rhy'Din, so I'll be glad to take what's submitted, just read the guidelines.

I would absolutely love for the people on AOL to get involved with this paper, not just the DM/RDI crowd. The more open it is, the more ground it covers, the better the paper will be.

Thanks!

Fascinating.

Personally, I don't remember The Vindicator at all. Then again, I was only a wandering eye in the RDI community. I didn't often get fully involved in the events and happenings of the old board crew. Rare occasions. But! I like the idea, if I'm understanding it correctly.

This looks like a strictly IC newspaper, yes?

If that's the case, if you or anyone else sees anything useful to work off of for writing an article for this paper in our very own Ubique's Weekly, feel free to do so. As most of you all know, I fully support the sharing of information. That's the purpose of Mutual Endeavors, after all. I'm not really that much of a journalist myself, and I've got too much work on my hands administrating this site as well as compiling UW week to week.

In short, thanks for sharing that information with us, Harold! I do hope that other people get involved with it as well.

Personally, I don't remember The Vindicator at all.

I only got a chance to do five issues, mostly because I was trying to do the whole paper solo. But boy, it sure looked good when I did it. ::grins::

Yepper! So, birth, death, crime, etc... all of it's covered ICly. Right now, there's only two of us working on it, but I'd love to have others join in. Makes my job easier, and it makes the paper more well-rounded, too.

If that's the case, if you or anyone else sees anything useful to work off of for writing an article for this paper in our very own Ubique's Weekly, feel free to do so. I'll definitely be keeping my eye out, and will probably get ahold of the muns for any interesting story pieces. Because it'll be fun.

In short, thanks for sharing that information with us, Harold! I do hope that other people get involved with it as well.

Glad to do it, and am hoping it takes off.

Vol. 2, Iss. 1 1 Year, 4 Months ago Karma: 22
Currently, the Vindy is only covering the news on the DM/RDI site, not because I want it that way, but because I'm waiting for word to spread enough about it to pick up the AOL Rhy'Din connections. And don't mind some of the column breaks and HTML errors; trust me, I can make things look beautiful when they go to a real press, but it's way harder for me to code tables to look right.

H1 - City News Headlines
A1 - City News Continued
B1 - Opinions
C1 - Community/Sports/Classifieds

PS - Being posted on Geocities means I have limited bandwidth. So if you get an error, just wait and try again. I tried to keep the image sizes down to combat this, but I don't know how many hits it will get.

This paper of yours is awesome -- in theory.

I used to work with geocities myself for a while, but they kept changing the layout of the ads and frankly ... I hate ads. Another reason why I'm very pleased to have this new site here. I was finally able to archive UW in mostly the way I wanted it to be archived. Figuring out how to work with the new newsletter system is going to be tricky.

I wish there was some way to help you present The Vindicator in an ad-free fashion. This site isn't run and maintained with the good old HTML coding that I'm more used to. There's a whole system I'm trying to learn that keeps things running as smoothly as possible over here, and it's not easy. Easier than learning javascript or whatever else is out there these days, I'm sure, but not something I can learn overnight.

In any case: I'm going to put some thought into this as well as the thought I'm putting into the future of Ubique's Weekly. I'll see if there's anything I can do to help present your IC paper in the format you're trying to perfect, and maybe even host it on our site here. We'll see.

I've got FireFox, so they never come up for me. The ads, I mean. But yeah, someday it would be nice to put the Vindy on its own page, though, now that I'm looking at the blog we have for it, even if it doesn't have as true-to-press layout, it might just be easier to do it there. It'll certainly save me headaches!

But if you don't do all the work how am I supposed to steal the code to put in the blog? I totally love redundancy and having things stored in multiple places

The blog has some possible advantages though, like making it easier to do a "special report" on an event that happens between publication dates. If something big comes up the Vindicator can cover it without waiting then

::laughs:: I can always just code it all for the blog. And yeah, special editions would be easier.
