Once upon a time, in a Rhy'Din far, far away, shortly before the dawn of the 21st century, a legend was born...
At least, he likes to think of himself as a legend. His name is Sheridan Driscol, but for many years now he has only ever gone by the name of Dris. His first name isn't one he shares with people lightly, nor the full stretch of his last name.
Born last of a family of five older sisters, he arrived in Rhy'Din at the ripe young age of seventeen. This was circa 1999 in the modern world. But his genealogy puts him back to an earlier era of Earth history. Though originally, Dris was not designed to be from Earth so much as he was the mysterious world of Lyran Tal.
Even that's not true, I must confess. Originally, Dris was designed as a D&D character. Second edition variety of bard known as a gallant. Shortly after debuting him in a campaign setting, however, I stumbled upon the TSR keyword on AOL that took me to the splash page for Lyran Tal and the Crosswinds Tavern. Ah, the good old days. The only thing I really remember is the map and the city of Dreven, which is where at one point I had decided to say he was from.
Times change, though. The Crosswinds Tavern wasn't nearly as frequently inhabited as bigger rooms and groups, such as the Red Dragon Inn. As luck would have it, I stumbled upon another player who was playing a character by the name of Dean Valentino. An older man than Dris at 17, then, but equally schooled in the art of wooing and winning women with song and poetry. They were a veritable two man rat pack for a time. Until I had to take a break from role-playing all together.
When I came back, I discovered that the player of Dean Valentino had decided to age the character by twenty years. That's the way things go in fantasy worlds, I suppose. Newer to the game back then, and really only having played with Dean the most, I decided to go along with the game and age Dris by that much as well.
Problem with that decision was that the player lost interest in Dean and the way of things we once indulged in. Dris ended up on his own, and I had to find new groups to play him with. Over time, he successfully reintegrated himself with Rhy'Din society. And again, at some point, he became well known. Until, again, I stopped playing him.
Recently found a new love for him, though. Much thanks to those who have helped me rekindle my interest in him as a character worth playing. His story is a long one to tell, but I figured why not start with this little introduction and add him to the portfolio?
